Explanatory note

Reading books in English is the main type of speech activity for schoolchildren; it is an inexhaustible source of enriching knowledge, a universal way to develop a child’s cognitive and speech abilities, his creative powers, a powerful means of nurturing moral qualities and developing aesthetic feelings.

The teacher has always been tasked with teaching schoolchildren to read authentic texts, understand and comprehend their content with different levels of penetration into the information contained in them. Necessity Such a program is that, ideally, reading in a foreign language should be independent, not carried out under duress, but accompanied by interest on the part of students. And thanks to the “Read Together” project, students will not only read interesting books in English, but will also receive support from their families and recommendations from teachers on how to read carefully, write correctly and think critically.

Basic purpose This project is the formation of literary literacy, the initial foundations of philological education.

The project also pursues the following goals And tasks:

Learning goal– development of reading, writing and critical thinking skills. Tasks: - teach main reading strategies (read with an understanding of the main idea, details, with the extraction of necessary information, reading aloud); analyze the structural parts of the text, their division, influence on the understanding of the text as a whole; quote, provide evidence, evaluate the content, express your attitude to what you read; expand vocabulary on selected topics for discussion;

Cognitive goal– introduce the literary genre of fairy tales and their features; with works of American and English writers;

Educational purpose– develop a respectful, tolerant attitude towards another culture, a deeper awareness of the native culture;

Developmental goal– develop the abilities and qualities necessary for the communicative and sociocultural self-development of the individual; the ability to work in groups, the ability to cogently express one’s point of view, support the interlocutor or politely disagree.

Training will include:

- active character through solving specific, real-life communication problems;

- practical nature: awareness of the significance of acquired knowledge;

- promising character: constant expansion of the list of proposed literature, genres, topics, the opportunity for students to use additional literature, sources of knowledge, and the opportunity for the teacher to become an expert, mentor;

Principles: Authenticity of the material, sociocultural orientation, individualization, age appropriateness, correlation of book topics with social problems, consistency, modularity (learning stages).

Methods: Discussion, exchange of opinions, questions, answers, comments, reading aloud, listening, experiment, retelling, independent work.

The implementation of the “Read Together” project is based on the work of reading authentic texts of fairy tales by American and English authors. Working with English-language texts can increase the motivation of schoolchildren to learn a foreign language, stimulate a creative approach to the formation of communication skills, and will allow you to individualize the way of obtaining the necessary knowledge. Main strategy learning is a reading comprehension strategy (“text and I”, “text and text”, “text and world”). The training is divided into the following stages: introductory section, genre study, reading and listening. The program is designed for teaching schoolchildren in grades 5 - 6. The implementation of the project is designed for 34 hours in each academic year.

Recommendations for conducting classes: The purpose of the theoretical lesson is to expand the horizons of students , The purpose of practical classes is to consolidate knowledge and gain skills in mastering reading technologies. In the process of preparing for practical classes, it is necessary to carefully study the theoretical material and the text of the work, as well as the materials on the website. For the purpose of timely monitoring and self-control of the level of knowledge development, classes provide for students to undergo intermediate control in accordance with the curriculum and course content. Intermediate control is carried out in the form of project work, competitions and quizzes. For ongoing testing of knowledge, it is recommended to use the exercises on the disk.
