In Astrakhan there is an airport of international importance, which is a very important enterprise in the air transport complex of the entire region. This air harbor is located in the southeast of the European part of the Russian Federation. Due to its location, the airport has great potential to serve not only domestic but also international flights. There is also the possibility of increasing the volume of passenger traffic and improving the quality of transportation services.

One of the main advantages of Astrakhan International Airport is favorable weather conditions for air travel. According to statistics, bad weather here occurs no more than 5 days a year, and this is an excellent indicator!

Airports of international importance have international codes that consist of three letters. These codes are intended to conveniently identify airports around the world. Astrakhan airport code is ASF. You may need it when booking tickets (if you are departing or arriving at this airport), and you can also see this code on your luggage tag. By the way, baggage on an airplane flies separately from passengers, and to avoid trouble and the suitcase not flying to another airport, it is marked with a special tag with the airport code.

    What to do if your flight is canceled

    If a flight is canceled more than 24 hours before departure, passengers will be transferred to similar airline flights. The carrier bears the costs; the service is free for the passenger. If you are not satisfied with any of the options offered by the airline, most airlines can issue an “involuntary return.” Once confirmed by the airline, the money will be returned to your account. Sometimes this can take several weeks.

    How to check in at the airport

    Online check-in is available on most airline websites. Most often it opens 23 hours before the start of the flight. You can go through it no later than 1 hour before the plane departs.

    To check in at the airport you will need:

    • identification document specified in the order,
    • birth certificate when flying with children,
    • printed itinerary receipt (optional).
  • What can you take on a plane?

    Carry-on luggage is the items you will take with you into the cabin. The weight limit for hand luggage can vary from 5 to 10 kg, and its size most often should not exceed the sum of three dimensions (length, width and height) from 115 to 203 cm (depending on the airline). A handbag is not considered hand luggage and is carried freely.

    The bag you take with you on the plane should not contain knives, scissors, medicines, aerosols, or cosmetics. Alcohol from duty free stores can only be transported in sealed bags.

    How to pay for luggage at the airport

    If the weight of luggage exceeds the standards established by the airline (most often 20-23 kg), you need to pay for each kilogram of excess. In addition, many Russian and foreign airlines, as well as low-cost airlines, have tariffs that do not include free baggage allowance and must be paid separately as an additional service.

    In this case, luggage must be checked in at the airport at a separate Drop-off check-in counter. If you are unable to print your boarding pass, you can obtain one at the airline's regular check-in counter, and check-in and check-in your luggage there.

    Where to find out the arrival time if you are a greeter

    You can find out the plane's arrival time on the airport's online board. The Tutu.ru website has an online display of the main Russian and foreign airports.

    You can find out the exit number (gate) on the arrivals board at the airport. This number is located next to the incoming flight information.

Astrakhan Narimanovo Airport was founded in 1936, and today, this aviation hub is a large international airport, the status of which it received in 1996.

Creation and development of the airport "Astrakhan Narimanovo"

As you know, the airfield was officially opened in 1936, but a little-known fact is that operation began in 1932. It is located near the village of Osypnoy Bugor. Currently, the airfield is used for sports aviation. Initially, it was used exclusively for military purposes; only in 1945 did it begin servicing civilian aircraft. It was at this time that the name “Narimanovo” was received.

The runway had a dirt surface. There was also a small strip made of brick. Everything remained unchanged until the 70s of the last century. Civil aircraft of local airlines were serviced here. In the 50s, aircraft of the Li-2 type, as well as Mi-1 helicopters, were based at the Astrakhan Narimanovo airfield. Since 1960, the airport began to receive An-2 and Il-14 aircraft. In 1970, aircraft such as the An-24 and Ka-26 began to be accepted.

The new terminal at the airport was opened only in 1979, and a modern runway made of concrete was also created. All this made it possible to accept turbojet aircraft such as Tu-134. The airport became the main air gateway to Astrakhan.

On the eve of the collapse of the USSR, the Astrakhan Narimanovo airport united an air squadron consisting of 5 Tu-134 aircraft, 9 An-24 aircraft and 2 Yak-42 aircraft.

A new stage of development began in 2008, when the runway was reconstructed. This made it possible to accept modern aircraft such as the Boeing 737. Modernization has significantly increased the number of passenger turnover. Thus, in comparison with 2006, the number of passengers transported doubled.

Composition of III class airport "Astrakhan Narimanovo":

The modern runway is 3.2 kilometers long and 45 meters wide.

5 taxi tracks for aircraft.

Helipads and parking for 20 cars are equipped.

The terminal's capacity is 400 people per hour.

A modern filling complex with a capacity of 15 thousand m3.

Further development strategy for Astrakhan Narimanovo Airport

The main task of the airport owners is to create air gates that can meet all international requirements and provide quality service to passengers. In this case, safety rules must be observed at all stages. In addition, special attention is paid to each client. In turn, all this will make it possible to invest in the development of the country’s entire civil aviation system.

To achieve the set objectives for the Astrakhan Narimanovo airport, the following main tasks have been developed:

Development of existing and opening of new international and regional flight routes.

Start of cooperation with new carriers.

Pay special attention to and improve the charter and business flight sector at the airport.

Close cooperation with government agencies for better development of the region’s transport network.

It is also necessary to carry out a number of manipulations to receive modern ships from all over the world.

After the reconstruction of the airport in 2012, this air transport hub became capable of receiving up to 400 passengers per hour.

Runways of Astrakhan Narimanovo International Airport

Astrakhan Narimanovo International Airport has two runways. The length of the runway, where reinforced concrete is used as a covering, is 3200 meters with a runway width of 45 meters. The second runway has a shorter length - only 1950 meters with a width of 100 meters, and it is designed, as a rule, to receive and dispatch small aircraft and helicopters, since the surface here uses ordinary prepared soil.

Due to the presence of a runway of this kind, the airport can serve such types of aircraft as An-72, An-74, Boeing 737, Boeing 757, Boeing 767, Tu-134, Tu-204, as well as absolutely all types of helicopters. The maximum take-off weight of aircraft at Astrakhan Narimanovo Airport is 191 tons.

There is a heliport at Astrakhan Narimanovo Airport specifically for servicing helicopters.

Infrastructure of Astrakhan Narimanovo Airport

Due to the fact that Astrakhan Narimanovo Airport has been given the status of an international airport, the infrastructure here is well developed. On the territory of the airport there are:

  • Hotel for 100 people;
  • Business lounge;
  • Superior room;
  • Restaurant and cafe;
