When the horrors of World War II finally ended and Adolf Hitler's Third Reich ceased to exist, the world fully realized the consequences of the "Final Solution" proposed by the German dictator. Approximately six million innocent Jews were brutally murdered. Against the background of these historical events, public opinion approved the return of the Jews to their ancient homeland.
Britain retained control of Palestine until May 1948. On May 14, by decision of the United Nations General Assembly, the Jewish Zionist movement announced the revival of the State of Israel. For almost 2000 years, the Jewish people were strangers and strangers between nations. The Jews were now in their ancestral homeland, but their struggle was just beginning.
The Arab League, made up of Egyptians, Iraqis, Syrians and Jordanians, quickly invaded Palestine and attempted to destroy the newly created state. Fierce fighting ensued, but by 1949 the Arabs were defeated and Israel remained on its land. In May 1967, Egypt, Jordan and Syria prepared for another attack. However, the Israelis struck first and the war ended in six days. In 1973, at the beginning of the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, the Egyptians and Syrians attacked Israel again. The battles were fierce and bloody. However, in 1974, Israel again gained the upper hand and remained in its land.
For more than 50 years, these events captivated the attention of much of the Christian world, and millions of Christians concluded that this was the fulfillment of biblical prophecy. Today this opinion is being expressed throughout planet Earth. Countless Christians consider the rebirth of the State of Israel in 1948 to be the most important prophetic event of the 20th century!
This opinion is outlined in the popular book “The Next Seven Great Future Events.” Its author, Randel Ross, writes: “I call the creation of the State of Israel “the last prophetic time bomb.” When Israel became a legitimate state in the eyes of the world in May 1948, this single, seemingly unrelated event set into motion a prophetic clockwork that counted down the clock in reverse order. Soon the “zero hour” will strike and time will end.” Hal Lindsey echoes him: “Since the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, we have lived in the most important period of prophetic history.”™. It is no exaggeration to say that the vast majority of contemporary Christian theories about the end times rest firmly on the foundation of this 1948 doctrine.
On April 10, 1912, the Titanic set sail from England to America. This ship was itself at that time! largest in the world and was considered unsinkable. But after four days of calm sailing, the ship collided with a large iceberg. Three hours later, the ship sank into the water, finding its final refuge at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. The 1948 theory is much like the Titanic. In the minds of countless Christians, it is considered "unsinkable." However, in a matter of minutes this popular theory will be shattered against the stronghold of the Word of God. If the ship starts to sink, we need to leave it as soon as possible!
There are three main arguments in favor of the theory that Bible prophecy was fulfilled in 1948. It's time to take a closer look at them.
1. The Argument Called the Fig Tree
Hal Lindsey wrote: “Jesus provides an important clue to the times we live in. He says: “Take likeness from the fig tree” (Matthew 24:32,33)... The most important sign in the Gospel of Matthew is the return of the Jews to their land and the rebirth of Israel... When the Jewish people... created their own again state May 14, 1948, the first leaves appeared on the “fig tree”. Jesus said that this would indicate that He is "at the door" and will return soon."
But did Jesus actually say anything about this? In a parallel passage from the Gospel of Luke it is written: “And he told them a parable: Look at the fig tree and at all the trees: when they are already in blossom, then, seeing this, you know for yourself that summer is already near. So, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is at hand” (Luke 21:29-31).
Since the Gospel of Luke says, “And on all the trees, when they bud,” we can clearly see that Jesus was not referring to just one tree, which supposedly symbolizes the formation of the state of Israel in 1948. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus explained His parable of the fig tree. He said, “So when you see all these things, know that it is near, even at the door” (Matthew 24:33). When the fig trees and all the trees begin to bloom, we know that summer is near. “So,” said Jesus, when we see “all these” various signs described in Matt. 24 simultaneously coming true, we can be sure that His return is near. The fig tree is not a sign. She simply represents “all” of the signs in Matthew 24, none of which specifically refer to the revival of Israel in 1948. The iceberg of God's Word has just made the first hole in the bottom of the "ship of 1948"!
2. “Israel’s victories” as an argument
It is often suggested that Israel's victories over the Arabs in 1949, 1967 and 1973 are convincing evidence that God has once again gathered Israel and is now fighting for His chosen people, although the leaders of this state still do not believe in Jesus Christ . Let's look at this argument as well.
First of all, the Bible says that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (see Hebrews 13:8). God says: “I am the Lord; I do not change” (Mal. 3:6). Let us study the Scriptures without losing sight of this principle. Could God fight for Israel in the Old Testament when they were in unbelief?
After the Exodus, God promised to bring Israel into the Promised Land (see Exodus 33:1-3). Twelve men were sent to reconnoiter the area. Nevertheless, having heard the “bad report” about the “giants” living in that country, the people “murmured against Moses,” saying: “Let us return to Egypt.”
(Num. 13:32,33; 14:24).After this, God Himself pronounced the following judgment: “And your sons will wander in the wilderness for forty years... until all your bodies perish in the wilderness... so that you may know what it means to be forsaken by Me” (Num. 14&3 34). Thus, because of Israel's unbelief, God was unable to fulfill His promise to that generation of Israelites.
Sadly, the ancient Israelites were not willing to accept the 40-year sentence. The people suggested in any case to go “to the place about which the Lord spoke? (Num. 14:40). But Moses declared, “It will be unsuccessful. Do not go, for the Lord is not among you... the Lord will not be with you... But they dared to rise up... And the Amalekites came down... and defeated them” Num. 14:41-45).3 This passage is very instructive. God could not fight on Israel's side because of the people's unbelief. Many years later, when the Israelites “again forsook the Lord,” they “could no longer stand before their enemies” (Judges 2:13, 14). This fundamental biblical truth is repeated many times in the books of Joshua, Judges, Kings, Chronicles , Jeremiah, etc.
God doesn't change. Throughout sacred history He could not fight for Israel when they were in unbelief. Thus, there is no way He could have fought for the Jewish people in 1949, 1967 and 1973! The fact that a state wins battles is not proof that God fights for it. Did God fight on Hitler's side as he won numerous victories on the battlefield? Was God on the Nazis' side when they brutally murdered six million Jews? Obviously not! Dear friend, the “Israel's victories” argument is not based on a thorough study of God's Word. The iceberg has just made another hole in the hull of this “unsinkable” theory!
3. Argument about the gathering of the scattered Israelites in the last days
This is a "substantial" argument. It is now being argued throughout the world that the ancient prophecies of the Old Testament, which predicted the return of the scattered Israelites to their land, were fulfilled in 1948. The main prophecy cited as evidence for this point of view is recorded in the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel, chapters 36-38.
Hal Lindsey, in The Great Former Planet Earth, gives three reasons why Ezekiel's prophecy was fulfilled in 1948: 1) God said about Israel: “And I will take you from the nations, and will gather you from all countries, and will bring you into your own land.” (Ezek. 36:24). 2) The phrase “from all countries” indicates “worldwide dispersion”, and therefore it cannot talk about the time of the Babylonian captivity. (3) Ezekiel's prophecy will be fulfilled "in the last days" (38:16), which, according to Hal Lindsey, represents "the time immediately preceding" the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Very many Christians have accepted these; three reasons as “unsinkable” evidence in favor of 1948, when, in their opinion, ancient prophecies were fulfilled.
The following five arguments not only cast doubt on Hal Leidsey's arguments, but also prove that Bible prophecy could not have been fulfilled in 1948!
1. God specifically told ancient Israel that he would gather his children “from all nations” immediately after “you are seventy years old in Babylon” Jer. 29:10,14,18).
2. The period of time after the Babylonian captivity is also called the “last days” (Jer. 29:10-14; 30:24; 27:2-7; 48:47; 49:39; 50:1). Thus, the phrase “last days” does not always specifically refer to “the time immediately preceding” the Second Coming of Jesus. Moses told ancient Israel, “I know that after my death... and in the course of time evil will come upon you” (Deut. 31:29).
3. Three times in Ezek. 38 The newly gathered Israelites are called a people who will “dwell in safety” (v. 8). They are described as "carefree, living carefree." “They all live without walls” (v. 11). “My people Israel will live in safety” (v. 14). These words clearly do not apply to modern Israelis, who are surrounded on all sides by terrorists and a hostile Arab world. The Palestine Liberation Organization constantly threatens them with plots and bombs.
4. In Old Testament times, the Jews were scattered because they forsook God, violated His Law, and disobeyed His Word (see Jeremiah 16:10-13; 29:18, 19). If you carefully examine this issue, you will find that according to the Bible, Israel had to first repent of its sins, since only on this condition could God gather its scattered children.
Here is proof of this point. God said to Israel: “When all these words, the blessing and the curse, which I have spoken to you, have come upon you, and you will take them to your heart among all the nations in which the Lord your God has scattered you, and you will turn to the Lord your God, and if you listen to His voice... then the Lord your God will bring back your captives... and will gather you again from all nations” (Deut. 30:1-3).
According to these inspired words, God will gather the Israelites scattered among “all nations” if they will turn and listen to His voice. If they do not turn and listen, God will not be able to fulfill this prophecy for them! Since the Messiah has come, this “turning to the Lord” must be a return to Jesus Christ. It is clear that Jewish Zionism did not fulfill this spiritual condition in 1948.
God also told ancient Israel: “If you become transgressors; then I will scatter you among the nations; When you turn to Me... I will gather you” (Neh. 1:8,9). “And you will seek Me and find Me, if you seek Me with all your heart. And I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from captivity and gather you from all nations” (Jer. 29:13, 14). These scriptures are very specific and clear. Israel must first repent - then God will gather them. Once again, it should be noted that this condition was not fulfilled by the Zionist movement in 1948. The “unsinkable” theory is beginning to sink. A call sounds from the sky: “Lower the boats”!
The most important "regathering prophecy" recorded in Ezekiel 36 also contains conditional elements taught in the Holy Scriptures. Pay close attention to it: “Thus says the Lord God in the day when I will cleanse you from all your iniquities, and I will populate the cities, and the ruins will be rebuilt...” (Ezek. 36:33). Thus, on the day that God cleanses Israel from all its sins, He will settle the Israelites in their cities. This did not happen in 1948! Israel as a nation at that time had not cleansed itself from “all” its iniquities. He did not confess or forsake his past sin of rejecting the Son of God (see Matt. 21:37v39).
Jonah predicted, “Forty more days, and Nineveh will be destroyed!” (Jonah 3:4). However, after 40 days Nineveh was not destroyed. Why? Because the prophecy was conditional. Nineveh repented, so God postponed His judgments against her. As we have already seen, the same conditional elements are also contained in the prophecies about the regathering of Israel. Because Israel had not first repented and returned to the Lord Jesus Christ, God could not fulfill the promises of the return of the Israelites in 1948. 5. The prophet Ezekiel said: “And the word of the Lord came to me: Son of man! turn your face to Gog in the land of Magog, the prince of Rosha Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him... in the last years you will come to a land delivered from the sword, gathered from many nations... And you will rise like a storm, you will go. .. against the people gathered from the nations... And it shall come to pass in the day that Gog comes upon the land of Israel, saith the Lord God, that my wrath shall be kindled 8 My wrath... and I will pour out upon him, and upon his armies, and upon many nations, those who are with him, flooding rain and hailstones, fire and brimstone... and they will know that I am the Lord” (Ezek. 38:1,2,8,9,12,18,22,23). The fifth chapter of the book “The Former Great Planet Earth” is entitled “Russia is Gog.” In it, Hal Lindsey argues that Ezekiel 38 points to the restoration of Israel in 1948, as well as the final battle in the Middle East between Russia and the Jewish people. However, the revealing truth is this: the Book of Revelation actually says that Ezekiel's prophecy points to a worldwide event that will occur at the end of the Millennial Kingdom.
In the second chapter of this book it was said that the Apostle Matthew took the text of Hos. 11:1, which originally referred to the people of Israel, and declared that this prophecy was “fulfilled” in Jesus Christ (see Matt. 2:15). We also saw how the Apostle Paul similarly adapted the concepts of the Old Testament to the realities of the New Testament when he called Christ “the seed of Abraham,” whereas these words had previously been used to designate Israel (see Isa. 41:8; Gal. 3:16). Now fasten your seat belts! The Book of Revelation does the same with Ezekiel 38!
In Rev. 20:7-9 says: “When the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison and will come out to deceive the nations that are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, and gather them together for battle; their number was like the sand of the sea, and they went out into the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire fell from heaven from God and consumed them.”
The basic elements are the same. And in Ezek. 38, and in Rev. 20 speaks of Gog, Magog, a great army, the last gathering for battle against Jerusalem, and fire from heaven. At the same time, according to Rev. 20, all these events will take place at the end of the Millennial Kingdom. This will be the universal Gog and Magog and the last, world battle against the camp of the saints and the beloved city, that is, the new Jerusalem (see Rev. 3:12; 21:10; Heb. 12:22). Thus, in the 20th chapter of the Book of Revelation, those facts that originally applied to the literal Jewish people are transferred to the final, worldwide battle against the saints of Jesus Christ, who will be located within the walls of the new Jerusalem at the end of the Millennial Kingdom.
Why does the author of the Book of Revelation use this technique? For the same reason that we discussed in the third chapter of our book: to show that the Word of God will not be invalidated by the unbelief of many natural Jews (see Rom. 9:6). God did promise in Ezek. 38 and in Zech. 14 that He will protect Israel and Jerusalem during the final battle and will surely keep His word. He will defend His Israel in spirit, who will live in the new Jerusalem at the end of the Millennial Kingdom! According to Rev. 20:7-9, this is how the prophecy of Ezekiel will be fulfilled. 38. Therefore, the main question is: “Are we ready to accept the New Testament application of Old Testament prophecies?” If not, then we are not being faithful to the entire Word of God!
On April 15, 1912, at 2:20 am, the unsinkable Titanic completely sank under water. About a third of its passengers tried to save their lives in lifeboats, but most sank to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. What should we do? Will we abandon the ship called the 1948 Doctrine now, before it is too late? Our captain begs us: “Get on the boats!” If we don't do this, we may go down to the bottom of the sea!

Famous American seer Jean Dixon(1918-1997), many of whose prophecies have already been fulfilled, said that in the next century global tectonic cataclysms would begin on our planet, then terrible wars would break out: “A strong earthquake in the East will serve as a sign for an Arab attack on Israel. This fight will continue for eight years."
Many prophets and seers predicted that World War III would begin with conflicts in the Middle East. Soothsayer Joanna Southcott(England), which foresaw the beginning of the French Revolution, the rise and fall of Napoleon, warned back in 1815: “When war breaks out in the East, know that the end is near.”

From 1100 he lived in Jerusalem and may have been a member of the Templar Order. Prophecy about future wars: “When the millennium follows the current millennium, the lands will become the prey of war. Jews and the children of Allah will not give up trying to beat each other. The land of Christ will appear as a battlefield. IN Qumran manuscripts discovered in 1947 in the Dead Sea area and caves of the Judean Desert, there is a prophecy about the wars that Israel will have to fight before the final battle of Armageddon. Since the formation of Israel in 1948, Jews have waged almost continuous wars with neighboring countries for their independence. In the future, the Jewish people will have to fight Iraq, Iran, the Arabs, the peoples of Africa, the East and the troops of the Antichrist.

Prophecy Lavrenty Chernigovsky(1868-1950). "Russia, together with all the Slavic peoples and lands, will form a powerful Kingdom. He will be cared for by the Orthodox Tsar - God's Anointed One. Once (about 1800 years ago) r. Yossi and R. Khiya, walking along the road, talked about the Torah (divrei Torah - literally: “words of the Torah”). Having reached the words “And Sarai was barren, she had no child” (11:30), “became r. Hiya sigh and cry:
- Unhappy is that time, unhappy is the day when Hagar gave birth to Ishmael (from whom the Arabs descend. - I.Z.)!
- Why? - R. asked him. Yossi. - After all, then Sarah gave birth, and what a son!
“Yes,” answers R. Khiya, you see and I see, but I heard about this from r. Shimon (bar Yochai - I.Z.). And I cry for the time when Sarah was childless. For Sarah, seeing that she was not having children, offered her maid Hagar to Abraham as a concubine, and she bore him Ishmael. Abraham asked God for Ishmael, and the Almighty answered him: “But about Ishmael, I heard you; Behold, I have blessed it, and will make it fruitful, and will multiply it many times over; He will produce twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. And I will make my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you” (17:20,21).
Ishmael was circumcised. His patron angel asks G-d: “Should he who is circumcised receive a reward from You?” The Almighty answered: “Yes.” The angel asked again: “Why don’t You reward Ishmael?” G‑d answered: “They perform circumcision, but not in the proper way. In addition, the sons of Isaac are circumcised on the eighth day, but the boys of Ishmael are circumcised much later.” The angel said: “All the same, they are entitled to some kind of encouragement for doing Your will.” (And the Almighty agreed with him. - I.Z.)
This is the reason for my tears! What did the Almighty do with the children of Ishmael? He alienated them from true holiness, but gave them the holy places of Eretz Israel for as long as the country was empty. The Holy Land will belong to the children of Ishmael until the mercy of G‑d is exhausted for them as a merit for their circumcision. And they will prevent the Jews from returning to their country. The sons of Edom (Jewish tradition considers the European peoples to be the descendants of Edom-Esau. - I.Z.) will repeatedly try to take it away from the Ishmaelites, but will not succeed.
There will be bloody wars, the land will change hands, but the sons of Edom will not receive it (an example of such a struggle of Europeans for the possession of the Holy Land can be called the Crusades. - I.Z.)" (Zohar, Shemot - Vaerah, 32a) .
In other words, r. Khiyah wept because he foresaw the evil that the Ishmaelites would inflict on the children of Israel; he mourned the Jews who had already died in our time at the hands of the children of Ishmael! (Note that he also foresaw such historical events as the European wars for Eretz Israel!)
It is curious that many politicians, economists and sociologists of the last century (including the German writer and public figure, the Jew Max Nordau) believed that the main thing was to obtain the consent of the European peoples to settle Palestine with Jews (“charter”), and there would be no problems with the Arabs it won’t: they are close to the Jews in religion and origin, the Jews will bring them all the achievements of civilization, all the benefits of a prosperous economy - it is obvious that the Jews should have the best relations with the Arabs. But these predictions did not come true. Events developed exactly as it was said many years ago in the book “Zohar”.
