How to choose a mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses. About mirrorless cameras in simple terms

“Buyer’s Guide” 2017 presents to your attention the second part of a review of cameras in a certain price segment. However, in addition to compact cameras, both DSLR and mirrorless technology are already present here. Therefore, you can choose a camera not only for everyday photography, but also for creative work in art photography.

We have a more relevant article.

Today, devices with the ability to change lenses are in demand among photography fans. It’s easy to get confused in a fairly wide range of popular models, so this article contains a rating the best cameras with interchangeable optics.

The specificity of these devices is the absence of locking mirrors and an optical viewfinder. The second advantage of these devices, which also distinguishes them from their mirror “relatives”, is their compactness and lightness.

For an ardent photography enthusiast, the practicality of the model is one of the most important factors. In the event that you have to “click” everything in the world, then it’s quite easy to figure out which one is better to buy. In any case, first of all, you need to set a budget and find a store where it is profitable to buy the camera you like.

For beginners, devices from different manufacturers do not differ critically in terms of technological characteristics. Reliable cameras are produced by the best manufacturers:

  • Canon;
  • Fujifilm;
  • Olympus;

and less recognized companies

  • Panasonic;
  • Samsung;
  • Sony.

Some brands, the popularity of whose models skyrocketed last year, are today rapidly losing their leadership positions. In this regard, few people now buy high-performance Praktica, Kodak or Polaroid cameras. Small cameras from Casio, by the way, are also no longer in demand.

It is difficult to call non-core digital devices from General Electric or Hewlett Packard a successful acquisition. And inexpensive devices from Rekam and other manufacturers can’t even compare with integrated smartphone cameras.

What to expect from affordable models?

What you can expect from gadgets in the mid-price segment: excellent picture and video quality, an accurate digital viewfinder, reprogrammable keys and dials for controlling device parameters. And also a large assortment of lenses for professional photography, covering all important focal lengths (from fish eye to superzoom).

The remaining features that are nice to find in the device are image stabilization integrated into the shell (in this case, there is no point in amateur photographers worrying about the presence of stabilization in the lens).

Helpful keys and dials (you can never have enough of them), an integrated Wi-Fi unit for wireless connectivity, and a multi-touch display for easier menu navigation. It would be good if the model had a rotating screen and a fairly practical shell so that it could be carried with you.

Rating of high-quality cameras with interchangeable lenses

For beginners whose needs differ from ordinary users, you need to think about the following. For those who are looking for practicality, but do not want to limit themselves to just one optics, easy-to-use digital cameras with interchangeable lenses are suitable.

If a person likes to “take pictures” from a long distance, then it would be advisable to buy a practical gadget with a wide optical focus range. For a traveler, hunter, and even an ordinary beach lover, an all-season “digital camera” that works in extreme conditions will be a good purchase. This top of the best cameras with interchangeable lenses will help you choose a device for any of the listed purposes.

"10th place: CANON EOS M10 KIT"

The Canon brand has not yet become a leader in the production of mirrorless devices in the premium segment, however, among inexpensive models, this one is worth paying attention to. What the rotating multi-touch screen makes up for what it lacks in controls.

At the same time, the mirrorless gadget has everything you need to understand the basics of photography, right down to manual configurations of shutter speed, aperture and RAW format. In addition, the model will be a good solution for video shooting at the amateur level. And the ability to change optics will only increase creative ideas and internal potential for professional growth.

Among the shortcomings, buyers highlight an uncomfortable grip, poorly thought out ergonomics and low-quality automatic focusing in poor lighting. But for such a price these errors are easy to forgive. Overall, this model would be a good buy for beginners who want to learn the basics of photography, but are not yet ready to buy large DSLR devices.

The rating of the best continues to be a camera from the Panasonic brand. No more than 4 years ago, the first gadget of this series, the G1 model, saw the light of day. At that time, the capabilities of the device were at a decent level, and the device itself became popular among beginners and advanced photographers.

Interestingly, the G3 was immediately followed by the G5, and the G4 was not released due to superstitious reasons.

This camera is equipped with a Live MOS type matrix, which is made according to the Micro Four Thirds standard. At the same time, the resolution of photographs reaches 4592x3448 px. The camera contains an innovative generation chip such as Venus Engine 7 with Full HD, improved speed and functionality.

The multi-touch screen has also been updated. At the maximum resolution, the camera's shooting speed reaches 6 fps, and various scene modes will become a convenient set of tools for every photographer. Shooting and opening videos is carried out in FHD format with a resolution of 1920x1080 px.

The shape of this model is made according to the owner's requirements. A significant cutout in the upper part makes it possible to comfortably grasp the gadget, and the viewfinder, flash and many mechanical keys bring the device extremely close to the category of SLR devices.

The advantage of the camera is its lightness, amounting to only 396 g, and practical dimensions: 119.9 x 83.2 x 70.8 mm.

The average price is 22,000 rubles.

"6th place: Panasonic Lumix DMC-G80"

Quite a large and heavy mirrorless gadget. The weight of 453 grams is determined by the presence of moisture protection. If you use proper optics, then there is no point in worrying about shooting even in a downpour.

Like other system devices from Panasonic, this model is equipped with a 4/3 format matrix. Simply put, it is 2 times smaller than a frame of 35 mm photographic film. Because of this, the sensor is equipped with only 16 MP resolution. But under the shell, a place was allocated for the implementation of optical stabilization.

There is a rotating multi-touch screen on the back of the device. By the way, the model is “not afraid” of the bright sun, since it comes with an electronic viewfinder, which consists of 2.36 million pixels.

You can actually make very high-quality videos with this camera, including 4K resolution. The image in this case real time is displayed on the phone, because the developers also installed a Wi-Fi block.

In serial mode, the gadget “clicks” only 9 shots. But such a series can last for a long time - the limit for RAW is 45, and for JPEG 300 frames. By the way, the camera may not meet the expectations of owners of high-aperture lenses. The fact is that the shutter here opens at 1/4000 s.

  • Excellent viewfinder;
  • Excellent automatic focusing with contrast;
  • It is possible to shoot in 4K format;

  • Weak battery;
  • Insufficient speed shutter speed;
  • Modest matrix size;
  • Shooting in JPEG format may create a color noir effect.

The average price is 52,000 rubles.

First of all, do not forget that Olympus is known for its own lenses (since it is one of the global leaders in the manufacture of endoscopes and microscopes) and waterproof cameras. Best projects the company implemented in this new product, abandoning the manufacture of mirror-type devices.

Despite the fact that the design of the model is extremely similar to the well-known Zenit, its hardware is very innovative and completely non-mirror-like: an electronic viewfinder. The matrix does not have a high number of MP (16.1 million effective), but has a fairly large size (crop factor 2), which gives a good image, even if you use whale optics on a Micro 4/3 connection.

One of the advantages of the gadget is the presence of image stabilization, both software and optical. The model is equipped with a rotating screen, which makes it possible to take stunning shots even from the most awkward positions. Instant autofocus will be useful when shooting "offhand", and the forced autofocus option is intuitive - you just need to touch the multi-touch display.

The key disadvantage of the camera is its low-power battery, so you need to buy an additional battery on vacation.

Advantages:

  • Effective stabilization makes it possible to take shots with impressive shutter speeds handheld;
  • There is Wi-Fi;
  • Silent shutter.

Flaws:

  • Weak battery;
  • Ultra-sensitive face proximity scanner.

The average price is 41,000 rubles.

"4th place: Sony A6000"

This mirrorless device was released, literally “shining with new things” and innovations. The key innovations are a 24 MP scanner and a much more advanced combined autofocus system.

The model is very similar to the sixth and seventh NEX, although it is not made according to the “VIP” standards of the seventh NEX. In any case, this device eliminates doubts about the reliability of assembly and execution at first glance. Yes, it is not the smallest of system-type digital cameras with interchangeable lenses, but it is extremely stylish, practical and convenient.

With the small kit optics that comes in the kit, the user can easily fit the device into a jacket pocket. Like its predecessor devices, this one is equipped with a tilting LCD screen and an electronic viewfinder (EVF) for comfortable framing.

To the delight of fans, the Sony brand was able to achieve significant development in ease of use when compared with the same NEX. There is an innovative and efficient menu system and, finally, the ability to save and activate user parameters.

It's easier to access a couple of important shooting options, including compensation, exposure, and switching between manual and autofocus. In general, semi-professional and professional photographers many years of experience They will notice that the comfort and ease of use of the new model is now quite comparable to most flagship devices.

Advantages:

  • Incredible image quality for a device in this price segment;
  • Good picture clarity in JPEG format at low light sensitivity (ISO);
  • Low noise at high ISO settings;
  • Excellent dynamic range;
  • APS-C format scanner with 24 MP resolution;
  • ISO range is 100-25600;
  • Instant combined automatic focusing Fast Hybrid AF;
  • Practical kit optics included (16-50 mm).

Flaws:

  • Quite a long start;
  • Soft angles when shooting through the included optics in the wide-angle position;
  • The shortest focus distance in macro mode is above average;
  • Aggressive software color noise reduction by default;
  • After noise reduction at high ISOs in JPEG format, some areas of the image look “overly processed”;
  • Quite weak integrated flash.

The average price is 50,000 rubles.

"3rd place: PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-GH4 BODY"

This model became the first mirrorless camera that records videos in 4K format. It was published back in 2014, but to this day it occupies a leading position in the ranking of high-quality cameras.

It is worth noting that the advantages of the camera will most likely be appreciated not by photographers, but by videographers. Lots of manual configurations, surprisingly high bitrate and shooting in 4K format. Interchangeable lenses allow you to unleash your creativity and experiment, while innovative electronics ensure high quality. Image detail is comparable to professional video cameras.

PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-GH4 BODY

Advantages:

  • Comfort of use, ergonomics, like mirror devices;
  • Incredible assembly reliability, magnesium alloy shell with dust and splash protection;
  • Excellent picture quality and high ISO functionality for Micro Four Thirds format;
  • An excellent range of dynamics for this segment, which has improved compared to earlier models;
  • Fast automatic focusing;
  • Minimum shutter lag;
  • Instant continuous shooting speed (12 shots per second in full frame resolution);
  • Excellent buffer depth for JPEG format;
  • Deep buffer for RAW format;
  • Lots of functions for processing images in the device (noise reduction, brightness, contrast, and so on).

Flaws:

  • The functionality at high ISO settings is not so great when compared to APS-C cameras, the image quality suddenly drops from ISO 3200 and above;
  • Auto white balance and incandescent mode produce too soft results in a room with artificial lighting;
  • Slow buffer clearing from RAW files;
  • Continuous shooting in combination with constant autofocus is reduced (but still an excellent level - 7 frames per second);
  • One flash drive connector;
  • The visual defect rolling shutter is felt in 4K videos at recording speeds of 24 and 30 FPS.

The average price is 86,000 rubles.

"2nd place: Leica M10"

This camera will be a good purchase only for professional photographers. The mirrorless device has practical dimensions and a unique appearance.

The gadget has a modern 24 MP full-frame matrix, which boasts incredible resolution, contrast and an excellent dynamic range.

Advantages:

  • Wide ISO range;
  • Improved viewfinder;
  • There is a Wi-Fi block.

Flaws:

  • No image stabilization;
  • Poor dust protection.

The average price is 500,000 rubles.

"1st place: Canon EOS M5"

Of all the mirrorless devices, this gadget is most similar to an analogue of a DSLR device. The appearance is made in the best customs of the Canon brand: smooth folds, no sharp corners, a natural combination of glossy and matte colors. The shape of the device is made according to all the wishes of the photographer; it is comfortable to grasp with one hand.

The multi-touch display of the model makes it possible to switch and designate the focus point, as well as use all the functionality of the main menu. On a multi-touch CMOS display, only a specific area can be used. This option prevents the sensor from being activated accidentally.

The effective resolution is 24.2 MP, which makes it possible to increase the detail of frames to an incredible degree. Shooting speed – 7 fps. The digital format of the videos is MP4, which many experts attributed to the shortcomings of this model, since all innovative cameras this year traditionally record videos in 4K or FHD format.

Advantages:

  • Integrated electronic viewfinder;
  • Auto focus speed is comparable to DSLR devices;
  • Excellent picture quality;
  • Operating ISO parameters – up to 6,400;
  • Instant start;
  • Good burst speed;

  • Configuration of main options on the shell;
  • Possibility of reprogramming disks and keys.

Flaws:

  • Dimensions are larger when compared to the EOS M3 or EOS M10;
  • The tilt display is limited in upward movement;
  • There is no support for 4K format;
  • The device is demanding on the speed capabilities of flash drives.

The average price is 110,000 rubles.

Criterias of choice

If a user is ready to invest approximately 66,000 rubles on a mirrorless camera, then image quality most likely plays a significant role for him. Another such person, most likely, worked with manual or semi-automatic shooting mode and is trying to find something that will not limit his creative boundaries and will provide an opportunity to improve his own experience in the art of photography.

If the user is a beginner in the field of photographic art, who is sure that this will later become his passion for for a long time, then 66,000 rubles is not such a large amount to invest in a reliable and wear-resistant device (and optics that last longer than the shell of the camera itself).

The user will appreciate the improved functionality of the viewfinder, special external control components and manual exposure configuration. But if a person is not convinced that he needs it, or simply wants to easily take good shots, then it would be advisable to buy something budget-friendly. For example, a mirrorless camera from the middle price segment or a practical camera costing 33,000 rubles with interchangeable lenses.

This article will focus on mirrorless cameras. They are called so because their design does not include a bulky mirror and an optical viewfinder. In the design of classic DSLRs, a mirror located behind the lens at an angle of 45 degrees to the optical axis allows you to observe through the viewfinder the image obtained directly through the optics installed on the camera. Its presence does not affect the quality of the image (at the moment of shooting it generally rises and covers the optical viewfinder). Due to the large size of the mirror itself, the distance between the matrix and the lens increases, which in turn complicates the optical design of the lenses, increases the size of the camera itself, making it more bulky and noisy.

DSLR or mirrorless camera: what to choose

Why is a DSLR camera better than a mirrorless camera? For a long time SLR cameras were the most popular among amateur photographers, since the advantages still outweighed the disadvantages. However, progress does not stand still, and modern digital technologies allowed manufacturers to create a new class of cameras. Mirrorless system cameras have absorbed all the advantages of a DSLR camera in the form of ease of sighting, speed of electronics, and the ability to change optics. At the same time, the absence of an optical viewfinder and mirror allows the cameras themselves to be made smaller, lighter, with a simpler and more efficient design. Initially born as a niche product, this class of cameras is gaining more and more new fans every year, and the number of models on the market is growing like an avalanche. In all this diversity, it’s easy to get confused!

System cameras with interchangeable lenses

In this article, we have selected the most interesting, in our opinion, representatives of mirrorless cameras or, as they are also called, compact system cameras with interchangeable lenses. We will tell you about those models that, in terms of their characteristics, have already come very close to the performance of SLR cameras, or even surpassed them. Mirrorless cameras can be of interest to a wide range of people. For example, those who want to take a step forward from the usual compact soap dish or mobile phone. The intuitive controls of most of these cameras allow you to become familiar with all the basics of photography while remaining in your comfort zone. They are also suitable for those amateur photographers who have a large fleet of old high-quality photo optics left over from film times. Many companies produce adapters for different mounts, through which you can install and use your favorite lenses on the camera. They are also often chosen as a backup or second camera by many DSLR camera owners, and sometimes even switch from a DSLR to a mirrorless system entirely!

And another important point: for some mirrorless models (for example, Olympus) the price has practically not increased. As a result of the December price increase, other models did not increase as much as SLR cameras.

Olympus mirrorless cameras

If size and weight matter to you highest value, then you should look towards mirrorless cameras from Olympus. In their cameras they use a Micro Four Thirds size matrix (approximately 17.3x13 mm). This solution allows us to produce cameras and optics of small sizes. At the same time, the Micro Four Thirds matrix is quite large and provides image quality close to APS-C matrices. In terms of picture quality, Olympus squeezes literally everything out of 4/3 sensors in their cameras! Among the rich Olympus line, I would like to highlight two OM-D E-M10 and OM-D E-M1

In 2014, it received numerous awards, including from EISA, DPpreview and TIPA, as a camera with an ideal price-quality ratio in its class. The OM-D E-M10 is the continuation of the OM-D series, which has captivated the world with its classic design combined with the latest advances from Olympus. The camera is very fast. Autofocus speed is only 0.06 seconds, and RAW shooting speed is 8 frames per second. Let's add, judging by the enormous possibilities for customizing the interface, ease of manual and semi-automatic control, shooting in Full-HD format, and you will get a camera that outperforms most SLR cameras, but takes up much less space.

The big brother of the E-M10, the flagship of the Olympus Micro Four Thirds mirrorless system. Every facet of this camera is tailored for reporting and has a rich arsenal of professional solutions. Improved electronic viewfinder with a field of view larger than many DSLRs. Unique 5-axis image stabilization for photos and videos: compensates for shake in three planes, as well as rotational moments. Cheetah-fast hybrid autofocus. Dust- and moisture-proof frost-resistant housing. This camera is also available with a large number of additional accessories that expand its capabilities even further. Among the available accessories, I would like to note the MMF-3 adapter, which allows you to install and use all the functions of 4/3 format optics (such optics were used in Olympus and Panasonic DSLRs in the recent past). Autofocus with such optics will work using phase detection sensors located on the matrix.

Fujifilm mirrorless cameras

The next manufacturer, which also focused its efforts on the production of mirrorless cameras and ignored DSLRs, is the Japanese corporation Fujifilm. The main advantage of Fujifilm is its unique matrix and optics designed for it. And this is not surprising, because all my experience and knowledge accumulated over long years improving color emulsions, Fujifilm engineers adapted them to digital technologies. The result of their work was a matrix with X-Trans technology.

This technology is interesting because the pixels on the sensor are arranged in a non-linear manner and due to this there is no need to use a low-pass filter. The picture acquires its own unique charm, as well as exceptional sharpness in the smallest details. All these details can be captured using proprietary optics. Among the cameras from the Fujifilm line, I would like to highlight the following mirrorless models.

It is the most affordable model in the Fujifilm camera line with X-Trans technology. It differs from its older brothers primarily in size, as well as in the absence of an electronic viewfinder and less developed ergonomics of the controls (fewer buttons). The camera is available in three different body colors, has a rotating screen, Wi-Fi functionality and is an inexpensive entry ticket to the world of the Fujifilm system.

This is Fujifulm's bid to play on the same field as the Olympus OM-D E-M1. In the field of reportage cameras in direct competition with DSLRs. The model belongs to the premium segment and this moment is Fujifilm's most advanced system mirrorless camera. Outwardly, it is similar to a DSLR, but instead of an optical viewfinder, an electronic one is used, which, due to its size and quality, is practically indistinguishable from an optical one. The camera body is dust- and moisture-proof, frost-resistant and has classic mechanical dials for controlling shutter speed and exposure compensation (the aperture on most Fujifilm lenses is mounted on a ring on the lens). It uses an X-Trans CMOS II matrix with ISO increased to 51200. New processors and electronics have virtually minimized turn-on time and the interval between shots, resulting in a camera with extremely fast response times. Phase detection autofocus with subject motion prediction allows you to shoot up to 8 frames per second. For this model, as in the case of Olympus, Fujifilm has released a large line of additional accessories and new dust- and water-resistant lenses.

Sony mirrorless cameras

When talking about mirrorless cameras, we cannot fail to mention Sony Corporation. Among the achievements in this market segment, I would like to highlight two models: the Sony A6000 with the most advanced autofocus and the Sony A7 II with a 5-axis optical stabilizer based on matrix shift, implemented for the first time on a full frame.

This is a 24MP APS-C mirrorless camera with E-mount, available in three colors. At first glance, you will be struck by its thoughtful ergonomics. The camera fits well in the hand, has many customizable controls, and a well-thought-out interface. But the most interesting thing is its autofocus system with 4D focus technology. Not only did it surpass even Sony SLR cameras in speed, but also guidance is carried out in four dimensions: horizontal, vertical, depth and time (meaning predictive algorithms that allow you to predict the movement of an object at the next moment in time). Other features include an extended sensor sensitivity range up to ISO 25600, a high-resolution intelligent electronic OLED viewfinder, Wi-Fi and NFC protocols for data transfer. Another interesting fact is the ability to download various applications that improve and expand the capabilities of the camera from the PlayMemories Camera Apps brand store.

With an E mount and a full-frame sensor, it stands somewhat apart from all mirrorless cameras. This is the world's first camera with a 5-axis optical image stabilizer implemented for a full-frame (24x36 mm) sensor. The stabilizer will work with the “native” optics for this model with E-mount, and with optics from Sony and Minolta DSLRs with A-mount (you will need an appropriate adapter), and with any other lenses installed via adapters. If the adapter electronics allow the camera to understand which lens is being used, the stabilizer will adjust to the lens automatically. If the lens or adapter has no electronics at all, then the focal length of the lens will need to be specified manually.

The camera's autofocus is hybrid, extremely accurate and fast, with the ability to predict movement. Videographers will also appreciate this camera, as it has a full range of video recording functions and outputs video in Full HD format with a bitrate of up to 50 Mbps. Let's add here a convenient ergonomic design, a high degree of freedom regarding control settings, ease of wireless data transfer and convenient downloading of additional tools through the proprietary PlayMemories Camera Apps and we get a mirrorless camera with limitless possibilities, and most importantly - with a full-frame matrix.

4 Image quality

At the heart of mirrorless technology is the electronic viewfinder. Its use makes it possible to reduce the dimensions of the camera compared to SLR cameras, while maintaining advanced functionality and replaceable optics.

The first mirrorless cameras, which appeared in the early 2000s, were not in demand due to their high cost and limited capabilities. But in recent years the situation has changed. Technical specifications modern models are comparable to DSLRs and are second only to professional equipment. But the mass distribution of mirrorless cameras is hampered by the high cost and underdeveloped optics fleet. The use of adapters and non-native lenses often leads to a decrease in quality.

Mirrorless technologies are being actively developed by all photographic equipment manufacturers, including the leaders of the “mirror” market Canon and Nikon, but so far their successes in the new field cannot be called outstanding. The palm here belongs to Olympus and Panasonic, but in recent years Sony has become the generally recognized leader.

Mirrorless cameras are confidently conquering the market and may eventually displace DSLR cameras. However, novelty is a limiting factor in increasing sales. Even the sellers specialty stores are not always ready to provide competent consultation. Therefore, when choosing, it is advisable to focus on reviews, reviews and ratings of the best mirrorless cameras.

The best mirrorless cameras for hobbyists

3 Canon EOS M10 Kit

Best price
Country: Japan
Average price: RUB 26,990.
Rating (2018): 4.6

Canon has not yet succeeded in producing high-end mirrorless cameras, but among the budget range, the EOS M10 attracts attention. Compact size and ease of control will appeal to beginners. The camera will easily fit into a handbag and will not attract unnecessary attention. The lack of controls is compensated by a rotating touch display.

At the same time, the mirrorless camera contains everything you need to master the basics of creative photography, including manual settings for shutter speed, aperture and RAW format. Canon is also suitable for recording amateur videos.

The ability to change lenses will expand your creative boundaries and potential for professional growth. Among the disadvantages, users note an uncomfortable grip, undeveloped ergonomics and autofocus that misses in the twilight, but for such a price this is forgivable. The Canon EOS M10 will be the best for beginner photographers who want to learn the basics of photography, but are not ready to purchase bulky SLR cameras.

2 Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II Kit

The best ratio of price and quality. Optical stabilizer
Country: Japan
Average price: 46,999 rub.
Rating (2018): 4.7

The last of the mirrorless cameras in the younger Olympus line turned out to be the most balanced. Behind the retro style lies an advanced electronic filling. The advantages of the camera include a large electronic viewfinder, high sensitivity, good color rendition and fast autofocus. The new version has a useful option on the rotating touch screen: selecting a focus area with your finger across the screen.

But what makes the OM-D E-M10 Mark II the best among its competitors is the built-in 5-axis optical stabilizer, which not all older models have. With it you can confidently shoot handheld at long shutter speeds in low light and record video.

There are no complaints about the picture resolution in video mode; the maximum video frequency is 120 frames. The rate of fire is also high. 8.5 frames per second is enough for professional reportage photography. The buffer is not rubber, but spacious: the maximum series of images is 22 in RAW format. Among the disadvantages, users note the illogical menu, but you can get used to it.

1 Sony Alpha ILCE-6000 Kit

The most popular mirrorless camera. Best autofocus
Country: Japan
Average price: RUB 49,890.
Rating (2018): 4.8

Despite its compact size, this mirrorless camera will give odds to most amateur DSLRs. Main competitive advantage– best autofocus speed. A record 179 points provide full frame coverage; Sony can easily cope with any dynamic scenes. The impressive shooting speed of 11 frames per second will not let reporters down.

Tenacious tracking autofocus could make the model a leader in video quality. Full HD resolution and recording speed meet modern requirements, but the manufacturer decided not to focus on video. There is no microphone jack on the body, and users complain about the camera overheating during prolonged continuous use.

An indisputable advantage of the Sony Alpha ILCE-6000 is also low level noise. ISO up to 3200 is rated as working, and 6400 is guaranteed to be suitable for a home album. Other useful features include Wi-Fi, NFC and a rotating screen.

The only drawback of a mirrorless camera is the cost, which beginner photographers will find unreasonably high.

The best mirrorless cameras for advanced users

3 Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4 Body

The best mirrorless camera for videographers. 4K video recording
Country: Japan
Average price: 85,750 rub.
Rating (2018): 4.6

The camera became the first mirrorless camera to record video in 4K format. It was released in 2014, but still holds its position in the ratings.

But the advantages of the camera will be appreciated more by videographers than by photographers. Great amount manual settings, enviably high bitrate, 4K format. Replaceable optics provides scope for creative experiments, and modern electronics are responsible for quality. The picture detail is comparable to professional video cameras.

But in terms of image quality, a mirrorless camera is inferior to its competitors: the only advantage is its exorbitant rate of fire. At the same time, sharpness suffers, noise is noticeable even at minimum ISO values.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4 corrects the shortcomings of the previous version. Today, this is the best mirrorless camera for video shooting, which combines compact dimensions, thoughtful ergonomics and high detail. The lack of a stabilizer prevents the camera from getting closer to the ideal.

2 Sony Alpha ILCE-7S Body

Better sensitivity and dynamic range. Full frame camera
Country: Japan
Average price: RUB 139,900.
Rating (2018): 4.7

The release of the full-frame Sony Alpha A7s was a technological breakthrough in the world of digital photography. By increasing the pixel size, the manufacturer has achieved previously unimaginable sensitivity. During daylight hours this solution does not provide any advantages, but in the dark Sony shows incredible results. Experts agree that when ISO is set to 6400, the use of noise reduction is not required. Wide dynamic range allows you to capture details even in complete darkness. Other advantages include a metal case, a folding display and Wi-Fi.

The mirrorless camera has impressive video potential. Contrast focusing does not lose autofocus even if the subject is constantly moving. All settings are adjusted during shooting. The frame rate of the video reaches 120 frames per second, and when connecting an external recorder, recording in 4K format is possible.

The main complaint against Sony is its weak battery. When traveling and shooting for long periods of time, you will need several spare units. In addition, the mirrorless camera has a low rate of fire: 5 frames per second is not enough for reporters, but the manufacturer set itself other goals.

A mirrorless camera is best for shooting in low light conditions. Of course, it has some shortcomings that the second version released eliminates, but the cost of the new model is disproportionately higher.

1 Sony Alpha ILCE-7R Body

The best ratio of price and quality. Full frame camera
Country: Japan
Average price: RUB 96,829.
Rating (2018): 4.8

Even a quick glance at the Alpha ILCE-7R makes it clear that the mirrorless camera is aimed at professionals. The advanced ergonomics will appeal to photographers who quickly navigate button functionality.

But the full-frame sensitive sensor will make a greater impression on the pros. The absence of a low-frequency optical filter made it possible to achieve impressive image sharpness. According to the most picky experts, there is no noise up to 3200 ISO. If we take into account the increased size of the matrix to 36 megapixels, then the mirrorless camera becomes a universal tool for planner and studio. However, maximum detail and high resolution require a skillful approach and control over the depth of field.

By adding pleasant color reproduction, protection of the body from dust and moisture, wireless control and file reset, we get the best mirrorless camera in its class.

In addition, Sony is suitable for videographers. The camera has the necessary connectors, tracking autofocus and real Full HD resolution. The only thing missing is a stabilizer.

Among the shortcomings noted loud noise shutter, leisurely automation and slow shooting speed - 4 frames per second.

The best mirrorless cameras for professionals

4 Sony Alpha ILCE-7M3 Body

Image quality
Country: Japan
Average price: 144,990 rub.
Rating (2018): 4.7

24 megapixel full-frame matrix, producing photos in a resolution of 6000x4000. Autofocus is hybrid and pleases with its speed, a large number points, tracking function and “smart” work when shooting portraits. There are connectors for headphones, microphone and USB Type-C, as well as support for two flash cards at once. The screen only rotates up and down, which is convenient when shooting from the stomach, for example, but vertical photos from above will have to be taken blindly. But you can specify focus points directly on the screen: the system will understand you.

Electronic viewfinder with 100% field of view. The battery is quite capacious - it is enough for 510 photos, although in burst mode the Alpha ILCE-7M3 is capable of producing several thousand frames on a single charge. User reviews note that the camera can withstand more than a 5-hour interval in active mode without recharging.

3 Fujifilm X-T20 Body

Best price
Country: Japan
Average price: 59,990 rub.
Rating (2018): 4.7

Compact universal version of Japanese quality. The device is great for both video and photos in professional quality. There is a 24-megapixel matrix that creates 4K video content without cropping. The screen is touch-sensitive and rotatable, the diagonal size is three inches. I'm glad that the camera does not overheat even when recording video in ultra format.

Despite its touching size, the camera is capable of producing excellent images with excellent quality. It's a pity that there is no function for changing ISO when recording video. Otherwise, this is a professional mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses, encrypted as a budget compact camera. The camera made it to the top of the best cameras not only due to its reasonable price, but also due to the surprisingly high quality of the footage.

2 Sony Alpha ILCE-A7R III Body

Dual memory card support
Country: Japan
Average price: RUB 229,990.
Rating (2018): 4.8

The compact professional version with a 44 MP matrix and support for 4K video also made it to the top. Autofocus performs its function properly even in the twilight. When shooting portraits, autofocus focuses on the eyes - convenient. Matrix stabilization is a great help when filming. The viewfinder is electronic and of high quality. The processor is powerful and even while saving the captured frame, it leaves the user the opportunity to change settings and navigate the menu.

The menu, unfortunately, is very overloaded - in the labyrinth of settings it is difficult to quickly navigate and get to required characteristics. But even in poor lighting, the photos do not blur and are of high quality. Another pleasant bonus for wedding and reportage photographers is the high shooting speed. Up to 10 frames are created per second. Every megapixel of the matrix is felt and expressed in the quality of the pictures. The body is nice, the wheels are metal, the button travel is tight so that you can feel every press. The shutter button is smooth.

1 Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II Kit

High resolution images. Operation speed
Country: Japan
Average price: 182,990 rub.
Rating (2018): 4.9

A mirrorless compact option for those who engage in photography at a professional level. There is a 20-megapixel camera that shoots in a resolution of 5184 x 3888, an electronic viewfinder, and a touch-sensitive rotating LCD display. Autofocus is hybrid and works quickly, correctly and accurately. The number of focusing points is amazing - 121. There is manual focusing and even an electronic rangefinder.

The body is made of metal and is protected from dust and water. The gadget fits perfectly in the hand, providing a comfortable grip with a well-thought-out body shape. Auto ISO is programmable, which allows you to get a high-quality frame without noise. The detail is amazing, especially in RAW format. White balance in automatic mode works well – color rendition is natural. For portraits and reportage photos, this is the optimal model considering price and quality. In addition, there is excellent stabilization, fast operation (from switching on to frame processing) and tenacious focus with a tracking function.

I have long wanted to write about the intermediate link between digital point-and-shoot cameras and SLR cameras, and with the entry of Nikon into the market, not doing this is simply unforgivable. Therefore, today I will talk about mirrorless cameras with interchangeable lenses, a kind of hybrid with a point-and-shoot body and the capabilities of older cameras. But is everything really so rosy? We will try to find the answer to this question in the article.

The story began quite a long time ago, namely in 2008 with the presentation of a new format of cameras with interchangeable lenses by Olympus and Panasonic. This format is called Micro 4/3 and at the time of its appearance it was supposed to be a response to the rapid loss of the SLR camera market by these companies. Technically, the point is that by replacing the optical viewfinder with Live View, you can eliminate the mirror and significantly reduce the overall dimensions of the camera while maintaining image quality at the level of DSLRs. In addition, reducing the distance from the rear lens of the lens to the matrix had a positive effect on the optics, which made it possible to make high-quality lenses of very small sizes. In theory, everything was good, but these cameras did not gain much popularity mainly due to the high price, slow focusing system compared to SLR cameras, of course, and the small number of accessories offered.

Later, Samsung joined the “club” with the NX10 camera. It differed little in size from DSLR cameras, except that it was noticeably thinner; moreover, entry-level DSLRs entered the market at very reasonable prices and for a while the new standard was practically forgotten. The cameras were of course sold, but did not have a noticeable impact on the market.

Sony made the revolution by announcing, following Samsung in the spring of 2010, the NEX-3 and NEX-5 cameras. It was a breakthrough: a 14 megapixel APS-C format matrix (with a 1.5 crop) in the older model, a working value of ISO 800-1600, a huge 3-inch screen, simple controls and dimensions that allow you to put the camera in your pocket, although only with a fixed lens -lenses. A little later, additional accessories were released - an external flash and an adapter for lenses for older α series cameras.

These cameras were sold, and are still selling very well, and are often used even by professional photographers, although mainly as backup cameras. Recently, new products have been released or announced by almost all major manufacturers - these are the Olympus PEN E-P3, Samsung NX200 and Sony NEX-7. And most recently, Nikon added fuel to the fire by announcing two cameras, the V1 and J1. However, the first pancake in in this case It looks like it came out lumpy - a matrix with a resolution of only 10 megapixels, and even with a 2.7 crop, is not far from conventional point-and-shoot cameras, but it was precisely this component of mirrorless cameras that made them interesting in comparison with compacts. True, the intrigue is not over yet, we are waiting for an announcement from Canon.

Now that everything is more or less clear with the main players and camera models, as well as technical features, let's try to figure out why mirrorless cameras with interchangeable lenses are needed? In my opinion, buying a DSLR camera is a kind of application for further development and improvement of photography skills. If you do not plan to shoot in at least semi-automatic modes, then the point of such a purchase is zero. Just for such cases, when you want beautiful pictures, but there is no desire to understand the parameters and shooting modes, there are cameras like Sony NEX. They allow you to get really high-quality, from a technical point of view, pictures without spending almost any effort on setting up the camera, etc., you just point the camera and shoot. In addition to this manufacturer, cameras are often supplemented interesting features, for example, automatic panorama stitching, HDR shooting and all sorts of creative effects that significantly simplify or even eliminate post-processing of images on a computer. An additional plus is, of course, its compact size, although with truly universal lenses like 18-200, this statement becomes somewhat controversial.

It would seem like all the advantages, why buy a DSLR camera at all? Unfortunately, due to a design feature, namely the elimination of a mirror and, as a consequence, a separate focusing system, system cameras have slower autofocus compared to SLR cameras. This is very noticeable when shooting dynamic scenes, when the camera simply does not have time to focus, and the moment has already been missed. Moreover, a radical improvement in the situation is not expected in the near future, because the absence of a mirror does not allow light to be deflected to an additional focusing sensor, and naturally it cannot be placed directly in front of the matrix.

In any case, the choice is yours, but consider whether to carry a DSLR with you when you have such a convenient tool at hand as a mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses. Perhaps choosing the latter will help you save your budget and purchase not only a high-quality camera, but also a stylish accessory.
