I was there honey beer ending. And I was there drinking beer honey. If something gets in the eye

A. S. Pushkin

AT LUKOMORYE

From the poem Ruslan and Lyudmila

Near the seaside there is a green oak;

Golden chain on an oak tree:
And day and night the cat is a scientist
Everything goes round and round in a chain;
Goes to the right - the song starts,
Left - tells a fairy tale.
There are miracles: the goblin roams there,
The mermaid sits on the branches;
There on unknown paths
Traces of unseen beasts;
Hut there on chicken legs
Stands without windows, without doors;
There the forest and valleys of visions are full;
There, at dawn, waves will come
On the sandy and empty shore,
And thirty beautiful knights
A series of clear waters emerge,
And with them their uncle is sea;
There is a queen in passing
Captivates the formidable king;
There in the clouds before the people
Through the forests, through the seas
The sorcerer carries the hero;
In the dungeon there the princess is grieving,
And the brown wolf faithfully serves her;
There is a stupa with Baba Yaga
It goes, wanders by itself,
There, King Kashchei languishes over gold;
There is a Russian spirit ... there it smells of Russia!
And there I was, and I drank honey;
I saw a green oak by the sea;
Sitting under it, and the cat is a scientist
He told me his stories.

Russian spirit ... Smells like Russia In Russian fairy tales, Baba Yaga or another representative

"evil spirits" usually determines the presence of an outsider in your home

by smell and at the same time says: “It smells like a Russian spirit here!”. The word "spirit" in Russian has two meanings and can be translated into English either as "smell" or as the word "spirit". It is quite obvious that Pushkin put both of these meanings into the word "spirit".

The one who believes in the invention of vodka by Mendeleev is naive. Even more naive is a person who considers everything that is said about his country to be true. I am now referring to the myth of the eternal drunkenness of the Russian people. But do you know that there were no strong alcoholic drinks in Russia, and even “overseas wines”, supplied mostly from Byzantium, were rare and cost too much for ordinary people?

Russia drank beer and honey, intoxicated sbiten and mash, but these were all low-alcohol drinks. The alcohol content in the same Braga was only 3-8%. I propose to consider each of these drinks separately.

Beer in Russia

Historians found the first written mention of beer on one of the birch bark letters found in Novgorod, dated around the 11th century. By this time, beer was brewed everywhere, and the drink was very popular. The name itself was most likely formed from the word “drink”, and initially “beer” was used to refer to all low-alcohol drinks based on wheat or rye malt. Until the XIV century, everyone could cook it: basically, a good supply was made for some kind of holiday, besides, one of the taxes was levied in beer and mead. Starting from the 14th century, the production of beer was assigned to the state: Ivan III forbade his subjects to freely produce this drink.

The second heyday of beer occurred already under the Romanovs. The starting point can be considered 1715, when the first large brewery was built in Lviv by the decision of Peter I. Production volumes increased every year. 1795: construction of the Alexander Nevsky plant in St. Petersburg, which annually bottled 1.7 million liters of beer. The number of breweries increased until 1914 - with the beginning of the First World War, a “dry” law was introduced, and it was possible to resume the work of beer factories after the revolution, in 1930. The Second World War again closed all the "extra" factories, forcing the country to re-equip them for military needs. And only after the Great Patriotic War, the beer industry returns to normal again. In modern Russia, a small number of private breweries have been lost against the background of the giants of the world market, who bought up and privatized domestic production.

Braga in Russia was not an intermediate product obtained in the process of making alcohol. Real mash is formed as a result of fermentation of rye or barley malt; its recipe is similar to beer. They drank mash as soon as the drink was ready.

Intoxicating drinks with honey

"And Olga sent to the Drevlyans with the words: - I'm already coming to you,

Prepare many honeys near the city where they killed my husband, so I will cry

On his grave I will arrange a feast for my husband. They, having heard about it,

They brought a lot of honey and brewed them"

The Tale of Bygone Years and the Laurentian Chronicle, which speaks of the grandiose feast of Prince Vladimir after the victory over the Pechenegs, mention honey. Many have heard the name, but what is this drink? I associate it with a thick amber-colored liquid, but I couldn’t imagine the taste before the tour of the Golden Ring of Russia - it was then that I managed to taste mead, which, according to the manufacturer, is very similar to traditional hop honey.

There were two types of drink: set and boiled honey. For the first, they took honey in combs and poured it with warm water: the future fortress depended on the proportions of the mixture, 1:4 or 1:6. Wax residues were removed from the resulting wort, filtered, molasses and hops were added, and the resulting mixture was boiled until its volume was reduced by half. Yeast was added to the cooled liquid and placed in a fermentation oven for several days; after that, the container with the drink was lowered into the glacier to stop the fermentation process. The resulting acidic liquid became the basis for the subsequent production of berry, potion (with spices) and other honeys. For example, for berry honey, you need to pour the acidic base into a container with any berries, leave until signs of fermentation appear, boil, stand and pour into barrels for later storage. Another ingredient that should have been added to the finished drink was fish glue. It stopped fermentation and the appearance of decay products. Tarred barrels were stored in cellars from 10 to 40 years, and put honey was one of the most expensive drinks: it took almost 1,300 liters of honey to make one 500-liter barrel.

The second type - boiled honey, was much cheaper and more accessible. 1 part of honey in combs was poured with 7 parts of warm water, molasses or beer malt was added there. The wort was scalded with boiling water with hops, and boiled in an oven. Yeast was added to the finished drink, barrels were filled with it, and poured several times from one container to another to stop fermentation at a certain level, and then put on ice for the same purpose. It was possible to use boiled honey in 2-3 weeks. Hoppy sbiten was prepared using approximately the same technology, but more seasonings were added to it.

So where did vodka come from then, and why exactly is it considered a traditional Russian drink?

Previously, vodka was obtained not by diluting alcohol with water, as it is now, but in the process of distillation. And the first information about this process dates back to the 1st century, but not on the territory of Russia, but in Egypt! It is believed that the drink, the composition and properties of which are close to "vodka", was made in the X century by Avicenna! XII century, Italy, Salerno: written evidence of distillation. XIV century: The Roman Empire, from where knowledge of the distillation process smoothly flowed to Poland. The only mention of "created wine" in Russia belongs to the same century.

I. G. Pyzhov, a Russian historian and ethnographer, claims that vodka became widely known in our country only in the 16th century. The "traditionality" of the drink just rolls over! The name Mendeleev, attributed to the vodka recipe, is nothing more than an unsuccessful marketing ploy, since the scientist never worked to create or improve the recipe for this type of alcohol. His work was entitled "On the Combination of Alcohol with Water", and in it he described the interaction of ethyl alcohol and water, and the result of this interaction.

Organization of the fight against alcoholism in different historical periods

With drinks sorted out a little, with the time of their popularity - too. Another fact testifying in defense of our ancestors: Russia has always been a believer. It doesn't matter who - in Perun or in Christ, the motto "For the Faith, the Tsar and the Fatherland!" ran like a red thread through their entire lives.

Faith was not an empty phrase; the decision and words of the Church were listened to and revered as another law. And the Orthodox Church has always (!) condemned drunkenness. Take, for example, the 19th century: it was possible to drink only in institutions specially built for this purpose. But it was a shame to walk in them, since it automatically sent a person under the disfavor of the Church! And what kind of "eternal drunkenness" can we talk about?

The middle of the 19th century: sobriety societies appear in Russia, which in a year (1858-1859) spread to 32 provinces and led to the ruin of 3,000 tavern-keepers. But by the summer of 1859, the sober movement turned to drastic measures, and pogroms of drinking establishments began, as a result of which 11 thousand people went to hard labor. At the beginning of 1911, there were about two thousand such societies in the Russian Empire, which included almost the entire intelligentsia of the country. Her actions led to the fact that the government was forced to hear them: a "dry" law was introduced, from July 19, 1914, prohibiting the production and sale of alcohol, and punishment for moonshining in the form of 5 years in prison and a year of disenfranchised existence.

In the Soviet Union, the struggle for sobriety was also launched, but in the 30s it lasted only 3 years, and began to revive already in the 60s.

In modern Russia, there are also quite a few similar organizations, but their effectiveness leaves much to be desired: disappointing statistics allow us to draw just such a conclusion. And here are the figures themselves: if in 1914 the per capita accounted for 4.7 liters per year, and the first "dry" law reduced consumption to 0.2 liters, then in 1960 it was already 9.8 liters, and in 1984 - 12 l. According to data provided by the Ministry of Health, there has been a slight decrease in 2010. For comparison, in 2010 the volume of alcohol was 18 liters, in 2015 - a little more than 13 liters. This means that fewer people are voluntarily sending themselves into a drunken quagmire.

I will never believe that alcohol can somehow help. Usually the following “arguments” are considered the most common: you need to have fun, or problems at work, or in your personal life. I admit even serious grief. BUT! I can give a thousand reasons that alcohol can drive even deeper into the swamp, but it can not pull it to the surface. I invite everyone who holds the opposite opinion to the discussion in the comments.

Honey low-alcohol drinks, birch sap, beer, mash were known not only to the ancient Slavs in Russia, but also to most of the most ancient peoples of Europe - the ancient Germans, Scandinavians, Greeks, Lithuanians, Picts, Welsh and many other peoples.
In Russia, in ancient times they called it "honey", later the name "medovukha" appeared, which was prepared by "medostav". “Stavlennaya honey” was fermented from natural non-sterilized honey in oak barrels buried in the ground for 5-20 years.

Having a rich ancient history and deep Russian national roots, the drink "honey" appeared on the tables of our ancestors from time immemorial, and was an attribute of hospitality in every home. Due to the presence of natural honey in the drink recipe, which has healing properties, mead was considered not only a healthy drink, but bestowing divine wisdom and eloquence.

Among the ancient Slavs, mead, as a divine and immortal (Skt. Amrita) drink, was a ritual drink that the Slavs shared with the gods. An outstanding Russian researcher of fairy tales and Slavic folklore Afanasyev wrote that in Russia the honey drink was considered the drink of the gods, a drink that bestows immortality and divine wisdom, revealing the magic of the word, home divination and the sorcery of eloquence.

According to studies, it was customary to drink honey (medovukha) during the feast only before meals. Drinking honey was an obligatory attribute of the Slavic festive meal during all major family holidays dedicated to the newborn, wedding feasts, in funeral rituals and religious rites of sacrifice to the Slavic pagan gods. The honey drink was associated with a river separating the divine heavenly world, the other world inaccessible to mortal people, in which “honey-milk rivers and jelly banks” flow, separating the world of a fairy tale from the real earthly world.

"And I was there, drinking honey-beer"

Russian folk tales often ended with the words “and I was there, I drank honey, it flowed down my mustache, but it didn’t get into my mouth.” In the works of Alexander Pushkin, P.P. Ershov, N. Ostrovsky, this phrase, as in a folk tale, seemed to close the magic door leading from the fairy-tale world, where everything always ends well, where evil is always punished and everyone is happy, into the real world of harsh reality. " I was there…" acts as a happy memory of an eyewitness of fairy tale events that connect the narrator of a fairy tale with the real world.
The intoxicating effect of a fairy tale on the consciousness of a reading person can be compared with the influence of drinking honey and beer on the consciousness of a person tipsy at a fun feast, when "the soul is drunk and full became", and all the anxieties of the real world recede.

In fact, being in a fairy tale or tasting honey at a fairy-tale feast, a person communicates with an ideal fairy-tale world and learns to appreciate and perceive, as their values, the eternal truths of goodness, love, fidelity, justice, mutual assistance, which the magical world of our folk tales tells about. Namely, this involvement in the otherworldly, fairy-tale world tells us the expression “I was there, I drank honey-beer, it flowed down my mustache, but it didn’t get into my mouth.”

The fairy tale ended, as did the festive meal, and the person again meets the real world “it flowed down his mustache, it didn’t hit his mouth”, but pleasant memories and lessons of folk wisdom remained - “A fairy tale is a lie, yes, there is a hint in it, a lesson for good fellows.”

Since the 11th century, along with the ancient "medostav", the method of preparation has been used. "hearty mead" or "boiled honey" by boiling to sterilize honey and subsequent fermentation. Thanks to the sterilization of honey by boiling, it became possible to get mead in a month. In the 17th century, Charles Carlyle wrote down recipes for making mead drinks in Russia and mead.

The Laurentian Chronicle tells of a grand feast arranged in honor of Olga by Prince Vladimir in 996. Prince Vladimir ordered honey cooks to cook for "the whole world" 300 barrels of honey. The largest producer of "honey" for a long time remained the Trinity-Sergius Monastery, located not far from Kholmogory. Here is how it describes cellars of the Trinity-Sergius Monastery one of the foreigners

“In several rows were placed barrels of enormous size, immeasurable size, more than two meters high, cone-shaped, with an expanded base. Each barrel contained up to 7 tons of liquid. And there were many such cellars ... All the barrels were filled to the brim with beer, honey, wine, kvass and fruit juices. They seem to have grown into the ground with their multi-ton weight, motionless, huge, made of old oak, bound with iron hoops. The skill of the monastery mead cooks, kvass cooks and cooks was so high that Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich repeatedly sent his cooks to them for training.

Wouldn't you like to have a bite?

Being dead is crazy boring. Neither have fun even at the most provocative festivities, nor taste overseas delicacies and drinks, nor wave your favorite saber, chopping off the heads of objectionable kmets. Such an unlucky fate befell Witold von Everek, who almost left this mortal world a few years ago. Fortunately for Vitold, his older brother Olgerd never forgot about him, and when the gray-haired witcher of the Wolf school Geralt from Rivia stepped on the threshold of the burning estate of Garin, who undertook to fulfill the three wishes of the nobleman-robber, one of them demanded to force Vitold to have fun for glory. How can Geralt do this? Learn from this quest guide " I was there, drinking honey-beer!"

Visit to Shani

Redanian soldiers in the Shani clinic

At the end of the task "First Seeds of Evil", Gunther O'Dim will give Geralt a bottle of Von Everek blood, necessary for the Summoning Ritual, and advise him to contact the red-haired physician and the witcher's faithful friend Shani, who may know something about the location of Vitold's remains. can be found in her private clinic in Oxenfurt, located near the West Gate.When Geralt visits the clinic, he will find Shani in the company of Redanian soldiers, thanking the medic for creating an antidote for the poison of the Toad Prince and promising a worthy reward.In response, Shani will only laugh it off, waiting get a toad-shaped medal. Shani will return in a moment and send the Redans away, suggesting telling the witcher to sit down and talk.

Like the good old days

In a conversation, Geralt can ask Shani about what happened to her after Vizima? Shani will remember the epidemic "Katriona", colloquially called the "Red Death", raging in Vizima at the time of the events of the game The Witcher. It is noteworthy that the culprit of the infection was none other than Ciri, even if indirectly. In the book " Lady of the Lake"describes how, traveling between time and space, Cirilla accidentally transferred an infected flea to the world of the Witcher, which settled in the fur of a rat. This "company" made its way aboard the Nilfgaardian ship "Katrion", which brought the infection to the North. Mentor Shani was among the victims of the red fever , - low Milo Vanderbeck, nicknamed "Rusti", - until his last days, trying to help other infected. After Vizima, Shani returned to Oksenfurt, where she completed her studies and opened her own medical practice. Unfortunately, the medic did not have time to really settle down, as she was pulled out by order Radovid to the front, where she saved wounded soldiers from certain death. Asking Shani for help in searching for the family crypt of the Evereks, the witcher will fall into the "top ten", because in her third year the doctor studied the famous dynasties of Redania, among which the couple of Evereks wormed their way in. Taking out a dusty textbook and having found information about the desired family in it, Shani will say that all the deceased members of the family are buried in the family crypt house with the estate of Evereks. The girl will promise to bring the censer needed for the Summoning Ritual and invite Geralt to meet at the entrance to the crypt.

Everek family crypt

Shani at the gates of Everek Manor

The Everek family estate is a dark and mysterious place. Unfortunately, at this stage of the story, you can only admire the facade of the estate, since the gates will be closed, but you should not worry - soon you will have the opportunity to explore the interior, as well as get to know some of the residents. Despite the unfavorable atmosphere, Shani will pass the time while waiting for the witcher by weaving a wreath. Geralt will note that the girl has very dexterous hands, and will also ask about the purpose of this wreath. As it turns out, Shani's friend invited her to the wedding, which will still affect the further completion of the task, but now it's more important to go to the crypt and summon Vitold. Having approached the entrance to the Everek family bedchamber, Shani will not want to go inside and the witcher will have to go there himself. There, four ghosts will already be waiting for him, who will attack the witcher in pairs. The difficulty in fighting ghosts is that they can take on an intangible form in which any attacks by Geralt will not cause any damage. To avoid this, it is worth using the Yrden witcher trap sign or the Moondust bomb.

Coffin of Witold von Everek

Having dealt with the ghosts, Geralt will begin to look for Vitold's coffin. This is easy to do - just stand with your back to the entrance and the first coffin on the right will belong to Olgerd's younger brother. Vitold's personal saber, standing at his grave, will also serve as an excellent guide. After that, you will have to fumigate all the halls. The censer taken from Shani is automatically equipped in Geralt's pockets. Get it using the appropriate key, and go around all the halls of the crypt. At the same time, the witcher will cast the spell of the Summoning Ritual.

Hostile Everek Ghosts

The final touch in the Ritual of Summoning will be the addition of the blood of the dead person to be summoned to the burning lamp in the center of the great hall. And indeed, the ghost of Everek will appear! .. That's just not Vitold at all. The ritual will summon several spirits at once: Alexy, Honorata, Keistut, Ernest and Evlolia Von Everek. They will be very unhappy that the witcher had the blood of their heir. Having expressed their indignation, all six will fall on Geralt, wanting to shed his blood already. Formally, they are not ghosts, and from the point of view of game mechanics, they are no different from ordinary people. However, the Aksy sign has a very weak effect on them, and they are also resistant to ignition and poisoning. It will be most effective to use the same Yrden sign, which allows you to create an impromptu arena and kill each of the Evereks one by one, slowing down opponents rushing to help their relative. It does not hurt to use signs such as Aard and Quen, pushing the advancing spirits back and protecting from enemy attacks, respectively. The latter will be especially useful against a spirit with a heavy two-handed hammer, whose attacks cannot be counterattacked.

Ghost of Witold von Everek

When the souls of Vitold's ancestors find eternal peace, he himself will appear, thanking the witcher for the action he committed. As it turns out, he wanted to see how the gray-haired man would deal with his relatives. From a conversation with Vitold, you can find out the cause of his death. Once, Everek Jr., together with the "boars", settled in one village, ordering the local peasants to bring moonshine to them. But one day, instead of a bottle of barley swill, Vitold saw weapons in the hands of the peasants. He had to run to the basement, because he had no chance to fight off the five angry big men, but they still overtook the guy and smashed his head on the oak table. In foreshortenings showing Witold's ghost from the back, one can see a "fresh" wound on the back of his head, confirming the words of the dead man. If you ask Vitold about Olgerd, he will begin to praise his brother with undisguised admiration, focusing on the fact that the red-haired nobleman is not some kind of robber; he loves to read, gravitates towards art, and his wife is a real miracle. The witcher will reveal to Vitold the reasons for his visit to the crypt, which will please the second one very much. But here's the bad luck - to have fun, Vitold will need a body ... And one stands right in front of him.

In the original, Olgerd's brother has a completely different name - Vlodimir (Eng. Vladimir) or Vlod for short (eng. Vlod). However, during the localization into Polish, it was decided to change it to Witold, consonant with the name of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Witold (Polish. Witold). It is noteworthy that Witold was the nephew of another ruler of Lithuania, and do you know what his name was? That's right, Olgerd (Polish. Olgierd). Olgerd also had a brother Keistut (Polish. Kiejstut), whose namesake in the game is Olgerd and Vitold's grandfather.

Shani tries to bring Geralt to his senses

Geralt will not endure the infusion of the spirit very well, losing consciousness. In this state, Shani will find him, worried about Geralt's long absence and coming to the rescue of her friend. Shani will be very surprised when Geralt opens his eyes and starts showering her with compliments. Witold will have to leave Geralt's body so that he can explain himself to his girlfriend and warn that when Witold is in the witcher's body, the latter will completely lose control over his actions. The trinity will agree that if Shani needs to talk to Geralt, then she should ask Vitold to come out for a minute - a real gentleman will not be able to refuse a charming medical woman. Von Everek will return to the body of the witcher, immediately offering Shani to retire to the grove. She will refuse and Witold was about to go to the nearest brothel, when Shani will offer an alternative - to keep her company at her friend's wedding. In fact, she hoped that Geralt would invite her himself when he saw the wreath, but she was wrong. Witold will immediately agree, and they will agree to meet already at the wedding.

Geralt and Witold discuss Shani

As soon as Shani leaves the crypt, Vitold will ask Geralt if there was something between the two of them? You will be able to respond with one of the following responses:

  • Shani is very dear to me. The Witcher admits that Shani means much more to him than just a friend. Vitold will take the hint and promise not to pester her especially.
  • There was nothing between us. Such an answer will almost anger Witold, who sharply doubted the orientation of the witcher. On the other hand, he's better off.

cemetery jackal

Do not rush to leave the crypt the same way you came. With the help of the witcher's instincts, Geralt can detect a weak spot in one of the walls of the great hall. Hit it with the Aard sign and inspect the corpse lying at the bottom of the cave adjacent to the bedchamber of the Evereks. As it turns out, the dead man is a cemetery jackal, who paid dearly for trying to cash in on the treasures buried here. Witold will comment on this, expressing contempt for such scavengers. Take the rusty key from the crypt from the corpse and go deep into the cave. Geralt will pay attention to the web, the number of which is increasing and increasing, and then he will also find those who wove this web. Four arachnomorphs will attack the witcher in a spacious, but still closed area. Try to always be on the move, don't let the spidery monsters surround or corner Geralt. Remember that arachnomorphs are very sensitive to the witcher sign Aard, which can knock them back and leave them open for a decisive blow, and are also easily suggestible with the sign Axius. On a high difficulty level, it does not hurt to apply insectoid oil to the silver sword. Having cut off the paws of all the spiders, the witcher will go further and find himself in a previously inaccessible room with the coffins of the Evereks. From each coffin you can get an expensive ring, for which any buyer of items will pay very well. Open the door with the key you found earlier and exit the crypt.

Arrival at the wedding

Shani at the wedding

The wedding will take place in the village of Bronovitsy, north of the residence of the Evereks. On the way there, Vitold will ask Geralt about the witcher's craft and declare that he would like to use one of the signs. Please note that if the witcher turns around and runs in the opposite direction from Bronowitz, Witold will stop him, accusing him of the fact that the "old bull" does not contribute to the fun in any way, only exhausting Witold. In other words, going about your business at this stage of the quest will not work. Also, fast travel points that still send Geralt to the wedding will become temporarily unavailable. Having reached the village, Vitold will notice that it is not good to go to the holiday in dirty armor and, having moved into the witcher, he will "borrow" the kuntush hanging to dry and the boots standing nearby, and also shave off Geralt's beard, if any, and change the hairstyle to the option with short temples and tail. Well, in this form, it’s not a shame to go to Shani! After a short dialogue, in which Vitold and Shani will discuss the tediousness of the gray-haired man and Shani's desire to at least sometimes see Geralt cheerful, the newly-made duet will join the guests who are already having fun.

Meet me world!

The celebration itself will take place in the center of the village. Entering the makeshift yard, Shani will notice a tree with mountain ash growing on it, saying that in her childhood she made beads from these berries. Pay attention to this, later this information will definitely come in handy. Also take a closer look at the empty booth, which creates the impression that not a dog lives there, but a real werewolf. This will also play a role as the mission progresses. Vitold is separated from the unrestrained fun only by a conversation with the newlyweds, which will take place ...

Shani presents "Geralt" to Yavnuta and Aldona

Right now. Shani will introduce Vitold in the guise of Geralt to Yavnut and Aldona. Despite the request to behave decently, Witold will start asking the newlyweds completely inappropriate questions that will make Yavnut jealous. On the other hand, from inquiries one can learn that the groom's parents, like himself, are wealthy owners of a weaving workshop, while Aldona comes from a family of peasants. Due to the difference in social status, Yavnut's relatives were against the union of the young, but the guy still managed to convince them to go to the "misalliance". It also turns out that Aldona used to study with Shani at the Oxenfurt Academy, studying medicine, but a year later she simply did not have the money to continue her studies.

Interesting or not so interesting fact: Returning to the topic of the genealogy of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas, it should be noted that Yavnut and Aldona were his children and blood relatives of Olgerd. Too many coincidences, don't you think?

fire eater

Aldona's parents

After a conversation with Yavnut and Aldona, a lot of opportunities open up for Geralt, but I suggest starting with the search for a fire eater. Aldona's perplexed parents will stand in the center of the yard. Talk to them and find out that the father and mother of the bride, wanting to prove to Yavnut's relatives that they are not in poverty, arranged a celebration at their own expense. In addition, they invited the famous fire-eater from Novigrad itself, which cost Aldona's parents a tidy sum. Unfortunately, at some point, the dog Demon broke off the chain and chased the devourer, forcing him to retreat. The bride's relatives will ask the witcher to find and bring the magician back, remembering that the man did not part with his jester's hat.

Demon Footprints and Fire Eater's Fool's Hat

Approach the Demon's booth, which stands near the gate. Use your Witcher Senses to inspect the following items:

  • Booth. As mentioned earlier, the booth will seem very large to Geralt.
  • Large gnawed bone. Witold will comment on this by saying that he saw such a cleanly gnawed bone only after he had not eaten for several days.
  • Kazan. On the cast-iron cauldron, which plays the role of a bowl, the witcher will find traces of the Demon's teeth.

In fact, it is not necessary to do this, but it is recommended for the sake of completeness. But important for completing the task "I was there, I drank honey-beer" will be the traces left by the huge dog. Follow them into the forest, inspect the fallen branch near the tree and pick up the jester's hat from the ground - an attribute of the fire-eater, which he lost during the chase. A little further, Geralt will have to cross a small stream, from the opposite bank of which someone's screams will be clearly audible.

Do I see well? Fool climbed a tree to hide from this dog?

As it turns out, the fire-eater himself shouted, taking up defensive positions on a tall tree. But the Demon will not be as scary as he is painted - in fact, this is an ordinary mongrel with white hair and a black spot on his left ear. To be fair, he barks really menacingly. There are two ways to drive the dog away from the runner for short distances with obstacles:

  • Use the Aksy sign, if it is pumped at least to the second level, and order the Demon to go home. Vitold will find such power over the animal amusing and he will ask Geralt to make the dog roll. The Witcher will refuse, but Vitold will not be satisfied with such an answer. He will move into Geralt's body and give the order himself, more and more amused from the process. However, when Von Everek thinks about making the Demon bite off his tail, Geralt will drive the dog away and he will run away home.
  • Throw a stick to the Demon. This will distract the dog and he will run after her into the bushes. An act of livelihood from Vitold will not follow in the absence of a subject of the crime.

Ah, sweet mead! No wonder you decided to retire with her in a tree.

When the danger no longer threatens the devourer, he will jump down and thank "Geralt" for his help. Without any ceremony, Witold in the body of a witcher will offer to drink, snatching a bottle from the hands of a fire-eater and pouring almost the entire contents of the glass container into himself. Give the saved jester's hat, which he will also be very happy about, since this hat is lucky for a fire eater. On the face of the devourer, by the way, there is a scar from a burn, clearly acquired during one of the performances. Further events depend on the choice of one of the presented replicas:

  • You will sober up along the way. Let's go. Fun hour, but business time. Vitold does not have much time to waste on meaningless conversations, so he will offer the fire eater to return to the wedding and earn his fee.
  • How about swallowing fire? In the case of such a choice, Vitold will begin to ask the fire eater, what is his secret? As it turns out, before the performance, magicians drink a special liquid that does not allow them to burn themselves. This will surprise "Geralt", who voiced his idea that everyone can do this, which will hurt the feelings of the devourer. The artist will decide that it is beneath his dignity to work with those who insult him so much and will start defiantly leaving. You can return it with the help of 50 Novigrad crowns, persuasion with the sign of Aksy, pumped at least to the second level, or you can not try to keep it at all.

Bear-bear... [Censored] you, not the bear!

If the fire eater doesn't leave, accompany him back to the wedding. Crossing the stream, the artist will notice that a bear is rushing at them! But it seems that he never read bestiaries, because this is not a bear at all, but a wild boar. Vitold will order the devourer to hide while he deals with the formidable beast. The easiest way to do this is to apply the witcher sign Aard on the boar, which, as in the case of arachnomorphs, will tip the animal on its back and leave the belly open for a fatal blow. But be careful: if the boar gets to the fire eater, it will kill him with one blow. Also, sometimes there is a bug due to which the animal will appear not by the stream, but right next to the tree, and instantly kill the artist. Such an unpleasant bug is "cured" by the usual loading of the save. After defeating the boar, Witold and the fire eater will talk a little. During the conversation, the saved magician will introduce himself once again - his name is David Aftensborough. Having finally met, David, together with the witcher, return to the celebration in honor of the marriage.

Interesting or not so interesting fact: In the Russian localization, unfortunately, I had to abandon the play on words from the original English version. In it, confusion with the definition of the enemy referred to the similarity of words Boar(rus. Boar) and Bear(rus. Bear). When Witold points out the fire eater to his mistake, he will declare that he is a conjurer, not a naturalist. But the man from whom the name was borrowed - David Attenborough - became famous precisely for his studies of the surrounding nature.

Gwent with bottoms

Lowies playing gwent

After a walk through the forest, you can also play a game of gwent. Approach the table, behind which three bottoms will be thrown into cards. One of them will especially stand out with deer ears worn on the head. Witold casually refers to one of them as "small", because of which a conflict will arise and the other two lows will demand an apology from "Geralt". You can apologize, or you can not do it - it will not affect anything at all. Confident in his skill, Witold will put everything he has on the line and the game will begin. The enemy will play a well-stocked Kingdoms of the North deck, choosing as the leader the card "Foltest Iron Lord", destroying the strongest card / s of the siege row on the side of the witcher, if the total strength of the row is equal to or greater than ten. It is advised to play with a deck of Monsters or Skoya "taels, if they are strong enough, and if you don’t know how to play these decks, then choose your preferred deck, but try not to lean on the cards of the siege row.

Geralt of Rivia - the legendary monster slayer and the owner of cute deer ears

In case of victory, apart from moral satisfaction and a small purse of coins, neither Vitold nor Geralt will receive anything. But in case of a loss, a funny scene will begin, in which Witold, outraged by the defeat, will leave the body of the witcher, persuading Geralt to do something. The little ones, watching the dialogue of the gray-haired man with the void, will take him for a lunatic and offer to give them five percent of the available gold, as well as put on deer ears. Even if you are not ready to accept defeat in gwent, it is highly recommended to still lose. Yet, when else will there be an opportunity to look at the stern monster killer in such an image that Shani will find funny?

Swineherd Contest

The founder of the competition against the background of the participant running away from the ferocious pig

Although it is unsuitable for a nobleman like Witold von Everek to wallow in the mud, one can make an exception on such a day, especially since there will be no other opportunity. Approach the paddock in which the peasant will run away from the pig. The man standing at the gate will tell Witold that this is how the swineherd competition is held, and will invite the witcher to take part. Well, what is he? And he is always happy! To win the competition, you need to drive two pigs, marked with a yellow circle on their backs, into special pens. The mechanics of this mini-game is simple: If you want the pig to turn left, then come close to the right; if you want Piggy to turn right, then vice versa. Staying behind is not worth it, since from this position it is very difficult to control the movements of the pigs. At the same time, keep in mind that even though several ordinary pigs run around the corral, they will by no means go into the corrals, so don’t even waste your energy in vain. If the process takes Vitold too long, he will get tired and think about using the witcher's sign, meaning Aksy already known to him. In no case do not succumb to provocations and try to drive the pigs on your own, otherwise they will refuse to give out a reward to the witcher.

Rewards for winning the swineherd contest

If Vitold succeeds and he does not use the witcher's sign, the peasants will congratulate him on his victory and give him two prizes: a plush pig for Shani and a Laurel of the Swineherd, which gives an increase of fifteen percent to gold, being equipped on Roach in the trophy slot.

You met your destiny

Sitting together with Shani at the cart, Vitold asks the girl why she does not succumb to his charm? Shani will answer that Vitold, even in the body of Geralt, is simply not her type. Von Everek will be outraged by this, because he believes that he is able to make any girl fall in love with him. Then the red-haired physician will argue with Vitold that he will not be able to make a good impression on the dark-haired girl in a wreath, sitting alone on the bench opposite. Everek Jr. will approach her and begin to shower compliments, after which he will promise to give her the most expensive gifts and take her to the most expensive beauty salons, if only the girl agreed to spend the night with him. The prospect of being in "high society" will play its role and the dark-haired girl will already be ready to agree, but someone will call her, referring to her as "ICQ".

You bastard, you don't have to persuade me!

This "someone" will turn out to be one of the three Aska brothers, dissatisfied with the inappropriate company in the person of the gray-haired man, who, moreover, offered such obscenities to their sister. Even if Witold tries to apologize and pretend that he has nothing to do with it and that he was misunderstood, the trinity of heroes will have to be taught a lesson with the help of a drain torn from the fence. The brothers will also arm themselves with the same weapons and a fight will start in the same pen where Geralt recently drove pigs. For the duration of the battle, the use of witcher signs is prohibited, but not the use of health-restoring elixirs and food. In general, the brothers are weak opponents that do not cause much damage even on a low difficulty level, but still do not let them surround Witold, because then he will simply be stabbed from all sides for lack of Aard and Quen. There will be enough space for maneuvers, so defeating opponents will be a matter of a few seconds. When all three brothers bathe in the mud, they will rush to run away to hell. The frightened witcher Aska will follow their example, destroying Vitold's hopes for a pleasant pastime in the nearest hayloft. Well, he fought for glory!

Catch a slipper

The people are watching the attempts of the gentleman to catch the slipper of his beloved

The last full-fledged entertainment at the wedding will be fun, in the common people called "Catch the shoe." The essence of the game is that the girl throws her shoe into the pond, and her betrothed must dive to the bottom and return the shoe to the lady of the heart. Of course, Vitold will want to take part in this, and Shani will throw his boot into the water. Dive to the very bottom and activate the witcher's flair - with its help you can quickly determine the location of the slipper, and not only that of Shani. Collect all three and dive outside.

Geralt after swimming in the pond

Having got out on the shore, Witold will boast of his "catch" and will offer to personally insert the leg of each of the owners into their wardrobe item. Such a statement will not really please Shani, who will almost become jealous after such words. Witold hurries to reassure her, assuring her that he is just joking, and then puts Shani's boot on her bare foot. On this this entertainment will come to an end.

Minor backyard fun

Three "points of interest" available for interaction in the yard

In addition to full-fledged fun, Witold can also do the following outdoor activities:

  • Chat with an old lady standing near the barn. At first, she does not understand what Witold wants from her, but when she realizes, she will call her a "fool" and run away from him.
  • drink vodka. Two young girls will stand at the table and offer Vitold to drink with them for the health of the young. He, unable to refuse the ladies, will quickly drain the glass.
  • Harass another old lady sitting by a large tree between a pond and a pig pen. The grandmother's reaction will be exactly the same as in the first case.

Dancing in the barn

Gunther O "Dim decided to personally control the process of fulfilling the second wish

After completing any two amusements (not counting the minor ones), go to the center of the courtyard and Vitold will hear music coming from the barn. He will immediately grab Shani and drag him inside to dance. At the same time, he will constantly brag about the fact that you will not find a better dancer than Witold von Everek in all of Redania, and he dances really well. The fun will not be spoiled even by Gunther O "Dim, who appeared at the wedding, announcing from the stage that the musicians would play something more ... Romantic for the witcher Geralt of Rivia and his charming girlfriend Shani.

Vitold "thanks" Shani for a wonderful dance

Since the only person who could recognize Gunther is not currently in control of his body, Witold and Shani will converge for a slow dance. Along the way, they will conduct a dialogue in which Shani will ask Vitold how many girls he had? He will not hide - decently; but he will also add that all of them are no match for Shani. The music will begin to subside and Vitold will ask Shani if she knows how a partner should thank his partner? Before she has time to answer, Vitold will kiss the girl, for which Shani will not be ready, but will not be angry. She will ask Witold to come out and let her talk to Geralt. Witold, who returned to spirit form, will hint to the witcher that he did it on purpose to give Geralt a chance to get closer. After a short conversation, the gray-haired one will tell Shani that the man who announced the dance for them is Gunther O'Dim. It is obvious that he did not appear here by chance and it is worth talking to him.

Minor entertainment in the barn

"Points of interest" in the barn

Just like outside, there are several small actions you can perform inside the barn, including:

  • Drink vodka with dwarves. Wishing the dwarves sitting at the table that their beards do not get tangled under their feet, Vitold will empty another glass of barley swill.
  • Dance. Vitold will start dancing near the stage, trying to impress Shani with his skills. Yes, and how! Almost fiery flamenco dancing!
  • Find a neutral card for the Cow Gwent. Exit the barn and look to the right. There will be a ladder leading to the attic of the barn and which is worth climbing up. With the help of the witcher's flair, it is very easy to detect a card lying on the floor, upon raising which Geralt's deck will be replenished with a neutral card "Cow".
  • Sit on pillows. On the same second floor, next to the lying map, there are several pillows. Approaching them, Vitold will offer Shani to sit down and talk a little, but without finding a suitable topic, he will be quickly raised to his feet.

Conversation with O'Dim

In gingerbread, the most important ingredient is time.

After a slow dance with Shani, you will have the opportunity to talk with O "Dim. He will communicate with the guests at the wedding, telling the two ladies about his personal shortcake recipe, the main ingredient in which is time. It is this that makes the sweetness crispy on the outside and tender inside, but the exact time to achieve such a result, you will have to learn by trial and error, experimenting and starting over. Seeing Witold, he will get up from the table and greet him. What does Witold have to do with it, and not Geralt, which will greatly surprise the late nobleman. He will start asking O" Dima, what else does he know about? Probably, if Witold knew what answer awaits him, he would not even ask. "Mr. Mirror", without hiding contempt for the youngest representative of the Everek family, will tell that Vitold always envied his older brother Olgerd, because he was always better than Vitold in everything. He will in every possible way deny this and accuse Gunther of lying, and it is not difficult to believe him. O'Dim's words do not compare well with Vitold's behavior in the family crypt, when Vitold first appeared to Geralt and admitted that he did not like his relatives and was not going to help them in the battle with the witcher. At the same time, he praised Olgerd in every possible way, demonstrating an exceptionally positive opinion about the person , whom he allegedly envied. Recalling that Vitold did not have much time left before midnight, O "Dim will leave.

Midnight

Vitold's speech

As soon as all the main entertainments are completed and a conversation with O "Dim takes place, midnight will come - it's time for the ceremony of putting on a cap. Shani, as a bridesmaid, will take part in the ceremony. Vitold will take a moment and go on stage, wanting to make a speech in honor of the newlyweds Shani will ask him not to do this, but if Vitold nevertheless decides, then the nobleman's story about his attitude towards ordinary peasants will await the guests. Previously, he did not even consider them to be people and did not want to have at least something in common with commoners. he had several good grooms, but that was the end of any contacts with this layer of society.But today, after what he saw at the wedding, he radically changed his views: even though he still doesn’t want anything to do with the mob, but now this no longer bothers him to have fun in their company.

Witold writes a letter to Olgerd

While the eyes of those present will be riveted to the ceremony of putting on a cap on Aldona, with a genuine smile on his face, Vitold will sit down at the table and, cutting his palm and using blood as ink, will write a letter to Olgerd. Later it will serve as proof that Geralt fulfilled the second wish of the ataman "boars".

Gunther O'Dim punishes Witold for insubordination

Witold will exit the barn and leave Geralt's body. However, even though it is already midnight and the spirit had fun, he does not want to leave this world. He liked too much to feel alive again, and the witcher is unlikely to be able to somehow interfere with Vitold ... But Gunther O "Dim can. Having bitten an apple to look like a villain, he will inflict unbearable pain on the ghost, and he will literally beg O "Dim for mercy. Once again showing contempt for the Von Everek family and Vitold in particular, he will order Everek Jr. to return to where he came from, and Vitold will have no choice but to obey "Mr. Mirror". After an extraordinary rite of exorcism, Geralt and O'Dim will discuss further actions, and Shani will ask if the witcher wants to stay at the wedding a little more? If Geralt agrees, then in parallel with the task "I was there, I drank honey and beer" Clear Night", an analysis of which will soon appear on the site.

Return to Olgerd Von Everek

Olgerd reads Vitold's letter

As in the case of the task "Open Sesame!", Olgerd von Everek will be waiting for the witcher in the Alchemy tavern in Oxenfurt. When Geralt says that the second whim of the nobleman-robber is also satisfied, Olgerd will not believe it. Well, where has it been seen that someone who was originally conceived as an impossible desire could be fulfilled? However, the same letter written by Vitold will serve as strong evidence of the "little feat" accomplished by the monster slayer. Olgerd will drink to the health of his late brother, praise the witcher for his efforts and agree to voice his last wish. But this is a completely different story, but the task "I was there, drinking honey-beer" will be considered completely completed.

I hope that passing the quest "I was there, drinking honey-beer" from the game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be useful to you, dear readers. Enjoy the game and good luck on the Path, witchers and witchers!
