Pokrovka 13 temple icon of David. Church of the Life-Giving Trinity on the mud at the Pokrovsky Gates. Video about the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity on Gryazeh

The name "on the Mud" appeared at the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity at the Intercession Gates for a reason. The fact is that the Rachka stream ran through the courtyard of the shrine. Behind the altar of the church, it was already a whole stream, which formed the dirt on Pokrovka.

The same temple at different times was called differently. At first it was the temple of St. Basil of Caesarea, then - Trinity, later - "Three Joys".

The church was first mentioned in documents under 1547. Then it was called the temple of St. Basil. The stone church appeared in 1649. In 1701 the building was rebuilt. When a fire broke out in Moscow in 1737, the shrine also suffered: the roof was destroyed on the porch, the fence on the bell tower burned down, clothes and crosses in the church building were damaged.

In 1740, the bell tower was rebuilt, but a year later the building collapsed, apparently due to the fact that it was erected on a swampy place.

The current building of the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity on Gryazakh was erected in 1861. Funds for the construction were allocated by the court adviser E. Molchanov, the construction project belongs to. At that time, the building of the temple was the central one on Pokrovka.

A building was erected at the Pokrovsky Gate in the style of Renaissance architecture. The building is rectangular in plan, has a huge domed drum and a bell tower in several tiers above the narthex. Pilaster porticos have been preserved, their proportions and impeccable finishes attract everyone's attention. From above, the walls are surrounded by a beautiful frieze with floral ornaments. The porch of the temple is a small figured turret - a very unusual solution.

In the 50s of the last century, a local cultural center was equipped in the building. Then the bell tower and the dome were demolished. Inside the building there were ceilings and partitions. The vaults of the chapel were destroyed, and another floor was built instead. The central aisle occupied the concert hall.

In the 80s, due to a crack that appeared on the vault of the temple, it was decided to close the church for repairs. During the year, the restoration work was completed, the foundation was strengthened.

In 1992, the temple was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church. In 2009 the facades were restored. Repair work is ongoing today.

The building of the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity on Gryazakh looks majestic, but it lacks some of the classic attributes of a religious building. Its bell towers and domes were demolished during the Soviet era. From the side of Pokrovka Street, the temple is decorated with a large pilaster portico. The porch of the building is made in an unusual style, visually resembling a triumphal arch. The building is decorated with a massive stucco frieze, using floral ornaments.

Shrines of the temple

The main shrine of the church is the icon of the Mother of God of the Three Joys. Every Wednesday, the icon is taken out of the altar for veneration and a prayer service is held. People from all over the city and its environs come to this service to pray and ask for help from the miraculous icon of the Mother of God.

Another shrine of the temple is the icon of St. David of Gareji with a particle of his relics. Every Monday, prayers are performed at her place, to which people come to ask for healing from illnesses, to ask for the gift of a child and a successful birth. David of Gareji is a great Eastern Christian monk who helped women heal their illnesses and gave the miracle of childbirth.

An ancient icon was donated to the temple in a very poor condition, on which only the outlines of the images of two saints were preserved. It was decided to depict Saints Peter and Fevronia, revered in this church. These Russian Orthodox saints help spouses praying to them who need to solve family problems. In 2004, particles of the relics of Saints Peter and Fevronia were delivered from the city of Murom, which were attached to their icon.

The temple also has an icon of the Archbishop of Simferopol and Crimea, St. Luke, with three capsules fixed on it. They contain a piece of his coffin, earth from the grave and a particle of relics. Even in this temple, believers can bow to the icon of the holy righteous John Kormyansky with a particle of his relics. An antimension with a particle of the relics of the Hieromartyr Archbishop John (Pommer) of Riga and Latvia, Bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church, is also kept here.

History

The first wooden buildings on this site appeared in the 16th century. At the same time, the first church was built, the predecessor of the current temple. The church was documented in 1547 and consecrated in honor of St. Archbishop Basil the Great.

The temple got its name “on Gryazeh” because of its location near the Rachka River, which is prone to large floods. Often a large puddle formed in the churchyard and there was impassable mud. The stream itself came from the Pogany, which are now called Chistye Prudy. In 1759, Rachka was enclosed in a pipe, the problem of dirt was solved, but the name of the temple remained with him for centuries.

Not far from the church, at the end of the 16th century, the famous Intercession Gates were erected. In 1619, a chapel was built with an altar and a throne for worship in the name of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos. After another 6 years, the second chapel of the Holy Trinity was erected. It is not known exactly when the first stone temple was built. There is only documentary evidence that in 1701 a new church was being built here.

Unstable ground leads to the destruction in 1741 of the bell tower and two refectories. In 1745, it was decided to build a new temple, but without the Vasilievsky chapel. According to some well-known data, the author of that building was Ivan Fedorovich Michurin, a famous architect, author of the Plan of the Imperial Capital City of Moscow. Over the next few years, the chapels of the Holy Trinity and the Presentation of the Most Holy Theotokos were consecrated.

The destruction of the Patriotic War of 1812 did not affect the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity on Gryazeh. There is no documentary evidence of the loss of church property. But as a result of the complete restructuring of Moscow after the fire and military destruction, in 1819 the construction of a new church building began. It was consecrated and opened to parishioners in 1826. The current church was built and consecrated in 1861. During its construction, fragments of the walls of the old building were used. In the western part, there used to be a multi-tiered high bell tower, which has not survived to this day.

The building underwent major repairs in 1899. The walls of the church were re-painted, the marble iconostasis and all the gilding were completely restored, and the necessary utensils were purchased. In 1930, the church was closed by the Bolsheviks and began to be used as a granary.

Since the mid-1950s, the church has been used as a House of Culture. For these purposes, a large-scale redevelopment of the internal walls of the temple is being carried out. The third floor is being completed to the northern aisle of the church. The concert hall was located in the central aisle, and a stage was erected in place of the altar. The shaky ground of this place again made itself felt when in 1979 the ceiling of the building was covered with cracks. Major repairs were carried out until 1981. After that, until the 1990s, the building housed the leisure center of the Moscow Regional Committee of Trade Unions.

In 1992, the church was returned to the bosom of the Orthodox Church. The Trinity chapel of the temple was consecrated on June 14, 1992, at the same time the first Liturgy was held. Services were held only in this part of the church; the assembly hall from the central aisle was completed in 2001. The central aisle was consecrated in January 2002. The floors were in disrepair, so another repair of the building was needed. During the repair work, a modern heating system was built. On the day of the Lord's Entry into Jerusalem, which is celebrated on April 4, in 2004, the first divine service was held in the renovated Church of the Life-Giving Trinity on Gryazeh.

Video about the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity on Gryazeh

At the beginning of the century before last, a pious painter brought from Italy a copy of the painting "The Holy Family" and left it in Moscow with his relative, the priest of the Trinity Church, on Gryazekhi (which is on Pokrovka), and he himself soon went abroad again, where he died . The priest, having received the news of his death, donated this icon to his church and placed it in the porch above the entrance. Forty years have passed since then. One noble woman in a short period of time suffered heavy losses, one after another: her husband was somehow slandered and sent into exile, the estate was taken to the treasury, and her only son, his mother's consolation, was captured during the war. The unfortunate woman sought consolation in prayer and asked the Queen of Heaven to be an intercessor before God's mercy for the innocent sufferers. And then one day she hears in a dream a voice commanding her to find the icon of the Holy Family and pray before it. The grieving woman searched the Moscow churches for a long time for the desired icon, until she finally found it at the porch of the Trinity Church on Pokrovka. She prayed earnestly in front of this icon and soon received three joyful news: her husband was acquitted and returned from exile, her son was released from heavy captivity, and the estate was returned from the treasury. That is why this holy icon received the name "Three Joys".

And today the icon does not cease to show miracles. In the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity on Gryazakh, near the Pokrovsky Gate (Pokrovka, 13), where she was glorified, an akathist to the icon of the Mother of God "Three Joys" was recently brought. Prior to this, an akathist to St. Nicholas was read in the church on Wednesdays. Now the question arose whether to continue reading the akathist to St. Nicholas, or to start reading it to the revered icon of the Three Joys. In the midst of discussions at the icon of the Mother of God "Three Joys" a lamp was lit by itself. Since then, the akathist to the icon of the Mother of God "Three Joys" began to be read in the temple on Wednesdays at 17.00. She is considered the intercessor of the slandered, separated from loved ones, those who have lost their accumulated labor, an assistant in family needs, and the patroness of seed well-being.

The image of the Mother of God “Three Joys” shows its grace to servicemen who need her high patronage in the hot spots of our long-suffering Motherland. Under the special patronage of the Mother of God are people who are left alone, including, as already mentioned, those who find themselves in captivity and in a foreign land.

Here are the testimonies of one colonel of the Russian army: “I was led to the Church of the Holy Trinity by the desire to receive a blessing before leaving on a business trip to the peacekeeping forces in Abkhazia. Father John blessed me and gave me an icon with the image of the Mother of God “Three Joys”.

In December 2002 we moved along broken roads to the place of permanent deployment, it was an unpleasant drizzle. Upon arrival at the location of the military unit, located far from the settlements in the destroyed poultry farm, I saw only one mountain Urta, and my soul became sad from such an environment. Having settled in a damp room without light and heat, I put the Icon in a prominent place, after praying in front of it, my heart immediately felt warm. In my further service, I prayed in front of the icon every day, and leaving for checkpoints that were on the line of separation of the warring parties and where peacekeepers served, protecting, among other things, civilians from bandits, I always took it with me. On 14 February 2003, a mine was reported at checkpoint 301, on a road near the Inguri River. On duty, I needed to understand the situation and make a decision. Taking the icon with me, I arrived at the place and saw that there was a mine with an unknown improvised fuse near the refugee tent, the second mine was found under the bridge. Setting up the cordon and evacuating people, I found myself 15 meters from the mine and at that time an explosion occurred. The dispersion of fragments with a continuous defeat at the mine is up to 200 meters, but thanks to the icon, not a single fragment hit me. Being at the “front line” in the conditions of a mine war and constant clashes with bandits, no one died out of 1,500 soldiers and officers under my command during the year of service.

September 18, 2003 Bandits captured Private Derevyannykh A.V. During the search, I had to move at night through the areas of operation of bandit formations, and everywhere the icon was with me and kept me. On October 1, 2003, after the bandit group was disarmed, the hostage was released.

In December 2003 I gave the icon to the mother of another hostage who was taken by bandits in Gagra in July 2003. She had been trying to free her son for six months already, she was in a desperate state, because. Russia's law enforcement agencies could not do anything in Abkhazia. Negotiations with the bandits were very difficult - they demanded a huge amount of money and threatened to kill the hostage.

December 31, 2003 hostage - 18-year-old Muscovite Vorobyov Alexei was released in very dangerous and difficult conditions - two mines were removed along the way of the detachment's retreat, while all participants in the operation remained alive.

Wonderful are Thy deeds, Lord, by the intercession of Thy Mother!

We can say that it was from this icon that the revival of spiritual life began in the Muranovo estate and in the area, which has rather deep spiritual traditions. In 1998, by decree of His Eminence Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna, Hieromonk Feofan (Zamesov) was appointed rector of the Church of the Passion Icon of the Mother of God in the village of Artemovo. Tyutchev. In this event, the initiator and active participant was and continues to be the director of the museum V.V. Patsyukov.

In June, on the feast of the Holy Trinity, the first prayer service was performed on the street in front of the restored church. At the end of the service, a woman in the rank of schema nun approached the rector of the temple, who, out of love for God, had taken monasticism even in a period of hard times and was nourished by the great Russian ascetic of piety of the 20th century, Sheigumen Savva. This woman, schema-nun Michael, handed the priest a whole pack of icons - these were the icons of the Three Joys. She fulfilled the will of her mentor, who blessed her to distribute these images to people. By the way, Schiegumen Savva labored in the last days of his life in the Pskov-Caves Monastery, for his advice and kind words, Russian people traveled from all over our vast Motherland. The rector treated the offered icons with special responsibility, and later they were distributed to the pilgrims. In fact, the Mother of God blessed the opening of the Murano temple through this image.

Years of tireless labor and prayer have passed. Hieromonk Feofan was appointed responsible for the pastoral care of the legendary Sofrino operational brigade of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The divisions of the unit were constantly and are, performing combat missions, in places of regional ethnic conflicts on the territory of the former USSR, with the aim of establishing law and order there - Baku, Fergana, Nagorno-Karabakh, Tbilisi, Dagestan and Chechnya. A few years ago, the mutual desire of the command of the brigade and the clergy of the Pushkin Deanery was expressed to build a temple on the territory of the unit. And so, on September 27, 2003, a temple was laid in the name of the Holy Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky, and soon its construction began. According to existing practice, during the construction period, a chapel-temple is being built, where a full range of Divine services can be held. The leadership of the military unit allocated a suitable room where, in the shortest possible time, a temple was equipped in the name of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir the Baptist, the collector and defender of Russia, who is the patron of the internal troops of our state. During the construction of the holy place, the Lord visibly helped this good cause - there were people who donated the necessary utensils and liturgical books. In the Easter week of 2004, a small rite of consecration was held here by Dean of the Pushkin District John Monarchek, and after that the first Liturgy was already held, at which the soldiers received the Sacrament of Holy Communion. By the way, some spiritual work was carried out earlier, including Confession, Communion and Baptism. During the close cooperation between the clergy and the military, about 1,000 fighters were baptized. The rector of the temple, Hieromonk Feofan, repeatedly came up with the idea that it would be good to have an icon here that helps the soldiers in their difficult field, and which would be their protector. For this purpose, at the end of the Liturgy, a moleben was served in the Muranovo church, addressed to the Lord and His Most Pure Mother. A few hours later, pilgrims from the city of Khimki near Moscow entered the refectory, bringing humanitarian aid for the fighters, including spiritual content. After a short conversation, Sergius, the servant of God, unfolded the bundle and took out an old icon ... - it turned out to be the image of the Mother of God “Three Joys”. By the way, there are very few such icons. According to those who came, this image has already helped the wars in their difficult service. They handed it over to the priest with the firm conviction that the icon of the Mother of God "Three Joys" would help the soldiers of the Sofrino brigade. Seeing the providence of God, the priest placed the shrine in a worthy place in the temple-chapel in the name of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir.

Orthodox people, having learned that the miraculous image of the Mother of God is in the church community, expressed a desire to pray before him. The icon of the Three Joys was taken out of the military unit for a short time by the rector, Father Theophan, so that everyone could ask for the intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God. In the following days, there were repeated cases of grace-filled help and intercession of the Queen of Heaven for those praying in front of her image.

How harmoniously intertwined in the world of God are the destinies of people who are now living and those who have already died, what surrounded them, and what was valuable to them ...

Anna Fedorovna Aksakova (nee Tyutcheva), who was the first tutor of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich (son of Alexander II), wrote in a letter to Sergei Alexandrovich that she would like to give his bride an unusual gift ... Many years ago, after a prayer service and vow at the shrine of St. Sergei Anna Feodorovna gave the mother of Sergei Alexandrovich (Empress Maria Alexandrovna) the image of the Virgin "Three Joys". This image was always with her and she prayed before it every day. The image was returned to A.F. Aksakova after the death of the Empress ... “I would like (Anna Feodorovna wrote) that your bride (Grand Duchess Yelezaveta Feodorovna, who visited the Muranovo estate several times and was the godmother of one of the descendants of the poet F.I. Tyutchev) took this image as a blessing coming from your mother and from the saint, who is the patron of Russia, who, at the same time, is your patron.

Now the image of the Mother of God "Three Joys" has taken its rightful place in the way of life of the Sofrino operational brigade of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. This shrine is taken to the parade ground or to the assembly hall on special occasions in the life of the brigade - the Day of the Brigade and the Day of Remembrance of the fallen Sofri soldiers, as well as when sending fighters on business trips and during prayers and religious processions - to bless and help military personnel.

Temple construction

It was built in 1861 according to the design of a well-known Moscow architect at the expense of court adviser E. V. Molchanov.

It was preceded by 4 stone temples, successively replacing each other in the 16th-19th centuries.

The wooden church with the throne of Basil of Caesarea has been known on this site since 1547. It stood on the swampy bank of the small river Rachka, which is why it was called "mud".

Since 1619, the Throne of the Intercession has been known.

In 1649 the first stone church with both thrones was built.

In 1701, the second one was built, with a new chapel of the Introduction.

In the summer of 1742, the bell tower with the lower and upper refectory collapsed, probably because they were built on a marshy place.

In 1745, it was allowed to build a new church without the Vasilyevsky chapel.

The throne of the Introduction was consecrated in July 1748, the main one - Trinity, in 1752.

In 1819, the warm church was dismantled and a new one was built with the thrones of the Cathedral of Our Lady and St. Nicholas.

In 1855-1884 Alexander Sokolov was the archpriest of the church.

temple architecture

The large majestic building of the Church of the Trinity on Gryazeh, together with the unpreserved Church of the Assumption on Pokrovka, which stood to the west on the same side of the street, largely determined the appearance of this section of Pokrovka.

The church was built using the techniques and examples of Renaissance architecture. Rectangular in plan, the 4-pillar temple with lowered corner cells and a columned portico was completed with a monumental domed drum and a high multi-tiered bell tower above the western vestibule.

Pilaster porticos of a large order have been preserved, on elevated risalits in the centers of the eastern and southern facades of the temple, attracting attention with the perfection of proportions and the magnificent decoration of composite capitals. On the top of the walls, the building is surrounded by a magnificent frieze with a rich stucco floral ornament. The porch in front of the main entrance from the side of the street, which is a small turret with a figured top, is interestingly solved.

The volume of the existing building included parts of the walls of the church of the XVIII century and its later northern aisle.

In 1929, the temple was seized by representatives of the so-called "Gregorians" (who formed the Provisional Supreme Church Council - AUCC), headed by the false metropolitan Boris (Rukin).

In January 1930, the Trinity Church was closed by decision of the Moscow Council of December 20, 1929 to occupy the church as a granary.

In the mid-1950s, the temple building was converted into a cultural center. The dome and bell tower have been demolished. The internal volume of the building was divided by partitions and ceilings into many rooms located on three floors. At the same time, the vaults of the northern aisle were destroyed and the third floor was completed. In the central aisle, a cinema and concert hall was arranged with a stage in place of the altar.

In 1979, a crack appeared on the vault of the former temple. It was decided to close the House of Culture and carry out a major overhaul. In 1980-1981, repairs were carried out and the foundation was strengthened.
