Hare from the cartoon The Secret Life of Pets. The Secret Life of Pets: The Long Road Home

Yarrow Cheney And Chris Renaud They made a wonderful cartoon. As I hoped, it turned out to be quite on the level "Zootopia". Both of these cartoons will definitely be in my TOP five best animated films at the end of the year. To prevent this from happening, the animators will have to produce something truly extraordinary in the remaining four months, and in the amount of at least five.

The first thing that the director's duo should immediately be praised for is the original and distinctive characters that are unlikely to be erased from memory. In something similar dogs, cats, rabbits, etc. we have already seen in cartoons more than once, but the creators "The Secret Life.." were able to make all the characters extraordinary, from the main ones to the episodic ones. One of the main keys to success here was interesting characters, where the weaknesses of pets only emphasize and highlight their advantages, giving them greater charm and originality. This applies, again, to everyone: Max, Duke, Chloe, Snowball, Gidget, Buddy and everyone else. The habits of the animals are very successfully reproduced, seemingly familiar to everyone, but presented in an extremely unexpected, amusing and funny way.

I'll tell you right away about humor. There are plenty of good jokes in the cartoon, but the only thing that spoils the impression is the memorable moment with the rabbit and its continuation - the classic toilet joke with drinking from the toilet. I think the plot could easily have done without either of them: both of these jokes, as for me, are dubious and not funny, and the second one is also pretty much in the teeth, since it is repeated over and over again in two or three dozen films and cartoons about dogs, becoming a kind of “classic”.

The second prerequisite for us not to forget the heroes for a long time "The Secret Life" became talented graphics. Each animal is as real, real with its fluffiness, shaggyness, smooth hair or feathers one to one. I want to touch, stroke, caress and cuddle all current or former pets, they are so alive in the frame. All are good, but the authors with Duke and Gidget especially succeeded. And the rabbit was not far behind.

The excellent Ukrainian dubbing also adds originality to the characters. Firstly, in the Ukrainian version the names were successfully chosen (for example, the cat became Sonya, and the dachshund became Bodey), and secondly, the voices themselves “fit” everyone. Here again you can name everyone. But for me they remained beyond competition Olesya Zhurakhovskaya, who voiced the same Sonya, and Sergey Pritula, who simply inimitably voiced the rabbit Snowball. However, first of all, it was nice to once again hear our legendary "Ukrainian Alpha" Evgeniy Malukha, who gave his unique voice to this wonderful and unforgettable basset. In general, you can rightfully be proud of the Ukrainian dubbing of the cartoon: I think it is definitely in the TOP, at the level "Cars". It will be interesting to compare it with the Russian version.

The plot didn't disappoint either. The story here in dramatic terms is, of course, easier "Zootopia", where humor and drama are approximately half, but is by no means lightweight. In addition to sketches on the topic of the workdays of pets when their owners are not at home (how much you don’t know about us, people!) and an important reminder that they are not toys and should not be abandoned (this is about the inhabitants of the courtyards and sewers of New... York) the cartoon contains other important messages on the topic of sincerity, trust, devotion and friendship, which are not bad at all. once again recall. As well as a message about human shortcomings and weaknesses, brilliantly played out through the characters of animals, and often with good irony and humor. The apologist here, of course, is the rabbit, in whose demagoguery, idle talk and pragmatic-cynical calculations more than one politician of various scales can easily recognize themselves.

To briefly summarize, « Secret life pets" this is an hour and a half that is definitely not wasted, which will give the viewer a lot of pleasure and good impressions.

The next project of the Illumination Entertainment studio, which gave children the cartoons “Despicable Me” and “Minions”, the new animated comedy “The Secret Life of Pets” has already shown excellent results at the box office. Even before it was released in many markets, including the CIS countries, the film has already collected as much as $595 million. This is with a budget approximately 8 times less - 75 million. It is not surprising that it has now been decided to film the second part, which is expected to be released in 2018.

Main character Terrier Max

Most critics agreed that the new cartoon is very reminiscent of our beloved Toy Story. “It’s like they were filming Toy Story, but instead of toy cowboys and astronaut rangers, there are pets involved: cats, dogs, budgie, hamster," critics write. And we agree with our colleagues. So, the plot. Terrier Max leads comfortable life in Manhattan: he lives with his lonely and very busy owner and most time left to himself. However, like all his neighbors: the snow-white orange spitz Gidget (this is a girl who is in love with Max and then initiates a rescue operation to find him), pug Mel, dachshund Buddy, mongrel cat Chloe, parrot Pea and a hamster lost in the labyrinths of New York apartments with an unknown name.

When the owners leave, the pets throw such parties and friendly get-togethers that the owners’ boring life, full of work, becomes a shame. In general, Max is doing well, and only when the landlady brings a new tenant into the apartment - a huge, shaggy dog Duke (the scriptwriters list him as a mongrel, but he looks like either a French shepherd - Briard, or a representative of the Hungarian dog breeds: Commander or Puli), everything will change for the worse. The competition for the owner's attention becomes so intense that as a result of the battles, both end up on the street as stray dogs.

Trailer for the cartoon "The Secret Life of Pets"

If we hadn't seen Pixar's Toy Story before, The Secret Life of Pets would have been considered a good work - it's a fun, mischievous, childishly humorous, beautifully animated film. In addition, the music in it is good, and the views of New York are generally beautiful (a film with such love for this city that children's audiences will definitely want to live in the Big Apple years later). True, if Pixar can strike a high dramatic note - take at least one moment from Toy Story, when a plastic astronaut realizes that he is not an astronaut at all, but just a toy, then in The Secret Life of Pets there is only a hint of heart-warming moments. For example, one of the important scenes, where the homeless Duke talks about his previous owner, turned out to be rather restrained - where the kids were supposed to sob together with pity, this does not happen

On the other hand, in the cartoon we see a much more poignant theme - the theme of abandoned animals. Social problems They don't sneak into cartoons very often, and here in the Brooklyn slums there's even a whole gang former pets: this is the evil rabbit Snowball, who escaped from the magician and became the leader of the thugs, his companion is an unfortunate pig who was tortured in a tattoo parlor, trying to get tattoos on her, and many others. This part of the film is especially interesting and resembles an attempt to create a gangster movie for children. At least it's interesting.

Still from the cartoon "The Secret Life of Pets"

The hooligan intonation of the film "The Secret Life of Pets" will certainly appeal to teenagers - there are forbidden parties and heavy metal, and jokes on YouTube, but it may alarm parents who want to protect their children from the adult world where they live for as long as possible crime bosses, homeless people and helpless citizens (we are talking about a paralyzed basset hound).

However, the film has enough friendship, humor and morality to become good movie for the whole family. Kids need to unwind a little before heading back to school, and The Secret Life of Pets does just that. And don't miss the surprise - a short film about minions, which comes at the beginning of the film.

The cartoon can be safely reduced in rating from “6” to “0+”, according to the level of humor and simplicity of the plot. Our kind, naive children will endure everything. The “best animated premiere” of the year turned out to be an inflated bubble. This is one of those films where all the best was in the trailer.

However, the cartoon showed impressive box office receipts and was a successful commercial product. Mysteries interest everyone, almost everyone has pets - that’s the answer. Rare man will not want to know what the pet is doing in his absence. The viewer was caught having a childhood dream.

All normal people talk to their pets. This is impossible to resist, which is why we domesticated them - to talk and care, so as not to be left alone and to receive loyalty and affection in return. And what is their answer - that’s where there is room for imagination!

Soviet children have long been aware of what pets do, using the example of the parrot Kesha: he was looking for a better life, suffered from boredom and tried to raise a collective farm. No one is looking for a better life here - the food here is already good, but evil, envious forces that have not received the owner’s love want to ruin the lives of pets.

The Secret Life of Pets takes place, unfortunately, anywhere but at home. The animals stayed at home for about five minutes - this is the most interesting thing, the rest of the time they traveled around the city and under the city in search of the way home.

Unfortunately, it’s also impossible to call the heroes charismatic and bright. Perhaps the cat Chloe, the thug Duke and the hawk Tiberius (no more, no less). The main character Max, who looks like a Jack Russell terrier, does not evoke emotions - he is flat.

The main characters, Max and Duke, did not share the owner, or rather Max did not like that the owner Katie brought home another foundling. The foundling Duke was also not satisfied with the supporting role, and during an afternoon walk he tried to get rid of his competitor.

From this moment on, the street misadventures of the forced brothers begin, where in a day they go through all the sewers of New York, rob a sausage factory and save their skins as best they can. Actually, that's the whole plot. Personal confrontation turns into a struggle against a common enemy - Snowy the rabbit and his gang. Snowball is the leader of the abandoned ones, for whom there were no owners, who live in the sewers and fiercely hate people. In appearance, Snowball is a pure angel, for contrast, but this does not make it funnier, it only causes bewilderment.

A good local joke - in the original, Snowball is voiced by a comedic African-American actor with a fiercely brutal appearance.

In the cartoon there are two dozen characters simultaneously playing on the field, not counting two more - secondary tattered cats and other extras. That's a lot! Poodle is a SOAD fan, glutton Chloe, Basset Pops is a dog in law, stupid pug Mel, glamorous blonde Spitz Gidget, also stupid, dachshund, guinea pig Norman, who lost his apartment, and also a turtle, a bird, a fish...

Surprisingly, there were no Pekingese, Doberman, German Shepherd and a number of other recognizable profiles.

What other interesting things could the filmmakers tell us? Everyone remembers the joke that pets look like their owners. The foundling Max lives in the loft of a kind, lonely girl, Katie. There's obviously a "third wheel" here, but Katie brought Duke in - perhaps as a harbinger of the second person, for symmetry.

A hard-rock-loving royal poodle lives in a Victorian-style apartment with some bore. The heavy-duty cat Chloe, who steals food from the refrigerator, lives with a kind, lonely aunt, and the bird lives with a tattooed jock.

A blonde Spitz is having lunch at the table with her owners, a childless couple. Hawk Tiberius belongs to a dandelion grandfather whose tastes betray a former intelligence officer. The lame and weak-sighted “authority” Pops lives with a man who looks like a modest teacher. Obviously, these contrasts should also cause laughter. Alas.

In the end, friendship and love won, and even Snowball the rabbit had a happy fate. But history is silent about what happened to the lizard, boar, bulldog and tattered cats.

The cartoon contains far from a new moral: we are responsible for those we have tamed. Leading four-legged friend home, make sure that no one in the family has allergies and everyone gets along in character.

"The Secret Life of Pets" is far from best story on the stated topic. “Volt” and even “Kesh the Parrot” were much more interesting. The long-running series “Tom and Jerry” was filmed exhaustively on this topic.

After watching, be ready to go to the pet store with your child.

Good afternoon dear friends!
And again I decided to write a review about the cartoon.

This cartoon was created with high accuracy and a good team. This year is a real battle for the world of animals. Let me remind you that in the same year the cartoon “Zootopia” was released, which broke all records of the world multi-artist. I was very surprised by the graphics and character animation. But what about without history? The story is touching and tragic. In many ways, there were notes of jokes and fun.
I'll give it 10 points out of 10 (10/10). I recommend watching it!

Best regards, your Login)!

I was looking forward to the cartoon with special impatience. This is a worthy cartoon and it’s no wonder that getting into the cinema for it, even for daytime shows, was a difficult task.
The main characters are excellent; the authors were able to notice how each pet reacts to situations. Initially, the story of “love” between Max and his owner touches the soul, because in fact, some animals also become very attached to us. I was amused by the part about what pets do at home when they are waiting for their owners. And the cute rabbit with his kingdom of heaven made the goose laugh like no other.
And it seems to me that I was not the only one who saw much in common with my animals in the characters. This can't help but bring a smile to your lips.
The trailer is no worse than the cartoon presented. I watched it in the cinema, and then again here on the website. I was satisfied. In the movies, not only kids, but also adults laughed until they cried. My best recommendations!

Good Cute/For children Funny Good animation.
When you watch, or watch a lot of trailers, you most likely saw the characters, like cute, cuddly animals doing funny things. Good news! The trailer is accurate and delivers the cute factors you'd expect (including the scenes you saw in the trailer). All the characters are charming. Designers have found a way to maximize all the cute features. Even animals you don't think are cute (like Snakes, alligators and lizards) are pleasant personifications for you. I hope you take away from this that designing for kids will have your own little charms.
And a small bonus that really shouldn't come as a surprise is that the animation is good. Lighting entertainment certainly has its anatomy and physiology down to being able to impose human qualities while retaining there animal qualities. Glad to know that animation studios are still capable of producing great works. If only they could put this effort into the next few qualities.

Bad Story Lack of uniqueness The trailers showed you a great movie.
With comedy and animation being the obvious focus, you have to wonder how the story lived out in this film. Unfortunately... it didn't fare so well. Oh it's not that bad, but the problem is that it lacks anything memorable or emotionally compelling for me. The writers crammed a lot of plots into a short 90 minute run of time, and the resulting production was a very rushed, shallow story with little development. The split focus led to emotional build-up and there were no intriguing qualities to keep my attention in any of the roles. And the goal they were trying to achieve was very limited and didn't really set at any time a limit or urgency to the story.
To add more fuel to the fire, The Secret Life of Pets is not a very unique film. We've already talked about animal movies, where anthropomorphic animals cross a city, which often includes a very extreme villain (think Oliver and Company or Homeward Bound). These tales stick home because they have edges, depth, and moments that stick in your head. Not in the case of this film, there was no engine to make our pets grow, develop, or even go through much struggle at all. It doesn't have any twists to mix everything up and so leaves you a little spoiled. Plus, most of the movie, including many of the fun parts, is revealed in three trailers, so you can save a significant amount of money just by watching all the trailers. Yes, I know this is definitely disappointing.

Opinion
The Secret Life of Pets is what the trailer promises, fun, entertaining, and wildly beautiful. Children's audiences, as well as those who are very young at heart, are the target group for this movie. There was a laugh factor, of course, and the characters were colorful, which I really liked. However, the story is very simplistic, the lack of emotional tension, and what most of the film says in the trailers make this film not the most memorable of the summer. I can't say it's worth going to the movies compared to some other films, but it makes for a good family outing.
