Games with ultra graphics. Computer games with the best graphics

22.11.2018 Pavel Makarov

At the dawn of the development of the gaming industry, gamers were amazed beautiful graphics in games such as Half Life, Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament. At the time of their release, these games were among the most technically advanced. But time does not stand still, and playing now hits of past years no longer has that admiration. The development of graphics in games was significantly influenced by DirectX technology - an API used to create games for the operating system. Windows systems. Starting with DirectX 8.0, shader support appeared. Simply put, the creation of beautiful realistic pictures with visual effects was now handled by the video card processor instead of the central processor. Thanks to this technology, we have realistic graphics in modern games.

In this review, we invite you to get acquainted with the list of the best games in our opinion with beautiful graphics for the PC platform.

In addition to our list of the best games with beautiful graphics on PC, we invite you to watch other similar projects in this video review.

Halo 5, Forza Horizon 3, Battlefield 1, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands and many others

The computing power of today's gaming systems allows developers to create real miracles. But some 20 years ago everyone dropped their jaws to the floor because of the picture of the original Quake!

In general, the notorious “graphene” is now a universal measure of the quality of almost any game: gamers like technologically advanced projects in which the shadows fall evenly, and the circles scatter in the water according to physics, and so that that vase in the far corner of the room, in which even You can’t go in, there were no “ladders” at the throat. The developers realized this, and therefore, in many AAA projects, stupid scripts, annoying music, faceless and spineless characters, or simple gameplay began to appear, which are reliably plastered with a good layer of 4K textures, advanced physics and ultra shaders, which sometimes make you want to scream. But some truly justify their graphicness, and that’s what we’ll talk about today. Here are the top 10 games that will load your video card to its limits.

Halo 5: Guardians (XONE)

343 Industries, 2015

The latest installation in the series about the adventures of a galaxy-famous Spartan has a good plot, but what primarily attracts attention is its chic graphic design. And this is logical, because the series is famous not only for its deep and detailed universe, but also for its high level of technology. The story cutscenes running on the game engine look simply impressive, and the game itself is a little inferior in terms of detail and level of polish, but the difference is so insignificant that you don’t even notice it. Especially when everything is racing at 60 frames per second.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux (PC, PS4)

The Astronauts, 2015

This forest walk simulator was created on Unreal Engine 4, which allowed the developers to create a beautiful and highly detailed world with simply fantastic drawing distance and picturesque panorama, which, despite its visual splendor, still harbors a piece of a dark and frightening atmosphere. Something sinister is clearly hidden behind the marvelous facade, and wandering through the forest, riding an old tram and rummaging through the rubbish of dilapidated houses of an abandoned village, thanks to realistic graphics, you are immersed in this world headlong.

Forza Horizon 3 (PC, XONE)

Playground Games, 2016

One of the most beautiful racing games of the current generation, which perfectly demonstrates the capabilities of the Xbox One console - Forza Horizon 3. The game takes place in Australia, and the artists from Playground and Turn 10 were able to very convincingly convey all the beauty of this continent, with its dry deserts, dense jungles and cozy towns. Not to mention the weather effects, physics model and simply stunning coastal sunsets.

Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PC, PS4, XONE)

CD Projekt RED, 2015

CD Projekt RED, the authors of the already legendary Witcher trilogy, wrote their own engine during the development process, called REDEngine. “Wild Hunt” looks endlessly beautiful with its mysterious backwaters, snow-capped mountain peaks, tiny villages and picturesque thickets. And reverent attention to even the smallest details, beautiful special effects of spells, water physics and other barely noticeable, but so important for immersion little things, make the world truly alive.

Battlefield 1 (PC, PS4, XONE)

EA DICE, 2016

DICE games have always looked great (thanks, Frostbite Engine), but this first-person action game set during World War I raises the bar even higher than usual. Dirty trenches, sun-scorched deserts and dense forests; menacing tanks, terrifying armored trains and huge airships - it’s as if you really are on the front line and the outcome of the war can depend on your every step. For complete immersion, you can completely disable the interface.

Batman: Arkham Knight (PC, PS4, XONE)

Rocksteady Studios, 2015

Despite a very tough start, associated with hundreds of angry reviews from owners of the broken PC version, and even a halt in sales on Steam, this story about a crime fighter in tight latex was remembered by many. The transition of Bats from one generation of gaming systems to another gave developers access to significantly greater computing power, which, as in the case of Assassin's Creed, for example, made it possible to create a larger and more detailed world that was fully able to convey the dark tone of a world mired in crime and the lawlessness of Arkham. And all the visual power of the game is demonstrated by the size of Batman's carriage, which takes up 160 gigabytes on your hard drive.

Horizon: Zero Dawn (PS4)

Guerilla Games, 2017

This is an amazingly beautiful game set in the distant future, where people share their world with various robots. Guerilla Games has been working with the hardware of Sony consoles for a long time, so it was not difficult for them to create a stunning 4K world with flora and fauna previously unseen in any game - a kind of symbiosis of primitiveness and post-apocalypse. Well, all these brilliant cyberbeasts, which you can watch for hours, discourage German game makers from releasing another simulator of hunting poor wild boars - here it’s much more fun to do it.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (PS4)

Naughty Dog, 2016

Sometimes it seems that Uncharted 4 uses the resources of the PS4 at 100 percent and even finds some hidden reserves of the system that even the company's engineers were not aware of. There is no other way to explain how the game even manages to work with all that level of insane detail in almost every cobblestone. Textures, work with light and shadows, special effects, physics - everything in this game is done at a phenomenal level. Now we are waiting for Naughty Dog to not let us down with the Crash Bandicoot remaster - these components are no less important there.

The Crysis series of games was a real revolution in terms of graphics. The first part of the game still looks very good today, despite the fact that it was released in 2007. However, now we will look at the game "Crysis 3". It was created on the CryEngine 3 engine and is only supported by DiretX 11. Thanks to this game engine, the game has a very beautiful game world and excellent gameplay. The third part became one of the most beautiful games of the year. All events take place in New York, which is overgrown with jungle due to the disaster.

Total War Rome 2

Total War Rome 2 is a real-time strategy game from Creative Assembly. The game turned out to be very cinematic: all the cities have incredible detail, the soldiers are well drawn, and global map has become more beautiful and pleasant compared to previous parts of the series. Graphics in strategies have never come first, but Rome 2 was able to surprise with both its gameplay and graphics.

Battlefield 4

The shooter Battlefield 4 is based on the powerful Frostbite 3 game engine. The developers demonstrated the capabilities of this engine in Battlefield 4. Beautiful realistic lighting, impressive animation, high detail of the world and incredibly beautiful shootings will allow you to get the most out of the game.

NBA 2K14

Sports simulator NBA 2K14 is the best basketball simulator. The new version amazed players with realistic animation of faces, movements, clothing, playground and spectators. The animation is so well done that the folds on the athlete's clothing move realistically, and the faces cannot be distinguished from real people.

Metro: Last Light

The post-apocalyptic first-person shooter Metro: Last Light boasts impeccable views of a destroyed city, detailed terrain and an incredible atmosphere. “The personal version of Metro: Last Light is a bit of a breakthrough because it's one of the best-looking games out there,” creative director Hugh Benyoun said in an interview.

Far Cry 3

The latest game in the Far Cry series takes the player to beautiful island. The main feature of the game is the open world, and every player can easily walk around the paradise island and see all its delights. The surrounding world in the game turned out to be very beautiful: trees, animals, plants and villages are very well drawn. Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful games.

The main criterion why users choose this or that game is the graphics. It's the same in multiplayer games, but unfortunately, not all of them have a good graphics model.

Developers of modern multiplayer games are trying to keep up with the times. Perhaps it's no secret that one of the most important factors in games - graphics. It is the graphical component of a particular game that allows you to experience it in a new way.

The best representatives of MMORPG

One of the most popular MMORPGs with good graphics is Forsaken World. It is distributed absolutely, which means that anyone can enjoy this game. The game itself offers users a choice of one of five races, eight character classes, a free PVP mode and huge opportunities for cooperative game with friends and all this combined with good graphics. The game appeared relatively recently (in 2011), but already has a huge number of fans.

EVE online is another representative of MMORPG. Unlike most similar games, this one takes place in space. The player needs to buy his ship and develop it in such a way as to make it a truly warship. The player can: buy various weapons for his ship, mine minerals from which improvements are created, complete quests to get more money, etc. This game has a very nice graphical shell for games of its genre. The picture of the space world looks quite believable: the glare from the sun is similar to real ones, the ships themselves are replete with many details, the stars and planets are also made of very high quality.

Worth paying attention

Perfect for anime lovers suitable game Royal Quest. The game itself has attractive graphics. The picture fully meets all the requirements of anime: the picture is bright and juicy, and

Just 15 years ago, you couldn’t even think about realism in games. Everything looked sketchy, angular and primitive. But technology does not stand still - over time, the picture acquired detail, shaders, HDR and other effects that greatly raised the quality bar appeared. More time began to be devoted to depicting the surrounding world, the physics of the objects located in it, and the notorious cinematography appeared.

Below we will look at several particularly technically advanced projects that managed to amaze gamers with their graphical component.

Ten games for PC and consoles with the most realistic graphics

Star Wars: Battlefront II

  • Platform: PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4
  • Release date: April 15, 2017
  • Developer: EA Dice, Criterion

The continuation of Battlefront turned out to be a controversial project in all respects - overly casual and monotonous gameplay, long leveling, unlocking weapons and, as the final nail in the coffin of player expectations, aggressive imposition of donations in the form of . The only thing we can praise the developers for is the excellent graphics.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q51LZ2HpbE Video can’t be loaded: Star Wars Battlefront II: Official Gameplay Trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q51LZ2HpbE)

The Frostbite engine made it possible to show excellent images, realistic effects and a lot of small details, such as leaves swaying in the wind, circles in the water, or dust raised by a vehicle hovering near the ground. When it comes to space battles, the wow factor is here to stay. Space stations, laser projectiles and explosions look no worse than in the original film.

L.A. Noire

  • Platform: PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, XBOX One
  • Release date: May 17, 2011
  • Developer: Team Bondi, Rockstar

Open world detective L.A. Noire cannot be called a graphically advanced game. It was released on the previous generation of consoles, squeezing the most out of it (and even on PC the situation has not changed much). Therefore, players had to put up with low detail in the environment, a small number of NPCs, and other consequences of the desire to “shove in what can’t be squeezed in.”

The game is definitely worth recommending to all fans of realistic graphics for its system of character facial expressions. All dialogues were recorded by professional actors using Motion Capture to thoroughly convey the characters' personalities. And this is not just a visual decoration, but a working gameplay mechanic. By questioning suspects and witnesses, lies, fear, and other emotions can be revealed.

Detroit: Become Human

  • Platform: PlayStation 4
  • Release date: May 25, 2018
  • Developer: Quantic Dream

Quantic Dream has once again managed to squeeze out all the possibilities from the current generation of Sony consoles. At first there was a good Fahrenheit for PS2, a kind of test of the pen, then it came out extremely popular Heavy Rain and was dubiously received by the Beyond audience. And now, having the power of the PS4 at their disposal, the developers have managed to make an interactive movie with well-animated characters. There are, of course, minor flaws, but they are skillfully masked by a blue image filter and a slight blurriness of the background.

The in-house engine with Tiled Forward rendering is simply beyond praise, and of course, the sophistication of the animations, as always, is at its best from Quantic Dream

Crysis series

  • Platform: PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
  • Release date: 2007-2013
  • Developer: Crytek

Despite the fact that several years have passed since the release of the final part of the trilogy, it still manages to load gamers’ computers. And this is not some Assassins Creed: Origins, which, with an empty world and stripped-down graphics, is ungodly slow and laggy. In Crysis you can immediately see where the resources of the processor and video card are spent. Realistic shadows and lighting, destructibility of small objects, detailed high-poly textures. The developers did a particularly good job with the vegetation - the blades of grass sway in the wind and bend to the sides when the character walks along them.

However, not only the third part deserves attention. Even the original, released back in 2007, looks more decent than many modern projects. Walking through the jungle dotted with vegetation, enjoying high-quality weather effects, is still interesting (especially if you install the HD mod).

Once the kings of photorealism, Crytek created a truly cool graphics engine that works quickly and is still in use today.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

  • Platform: PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One/One X
  • Release date: 2015
  • Developer: Crystal Dynamics

The latest installment in Lara Croft's adventures has raised the bar for video game quality to a new level. The developers' own engine, Foundation Engine, produces excellent images while adequately loading the system. Physically accurate rendering of materials made surfaces look realistic, and the combination of HDR and adaptive tone mapping made it possible to create excellent lighting effects - highlights, transitions from dark to bright, etc.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRY4kooD9oM Video can’t be loaded: Rise of the Tomb Raider PC Trailer 4K (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRY4kooD9oM)

Interaction with the environment was also a success. Steps in the snow leave realistic paths, and swimming main character in the water is accompanied by circles diverging in different directions. We also worked on the character himself - all movements look smooth and cinematic. Of course, to experience all the benefits, you need to play on a PC or at least buy the PRO/X versions of the latest generation consoles.

The Order 1886

  • Platform: PlayStation 4
  • Release date: February 20, 2015
  • Developer: Ready at Dawn

If you are the proud owner of a PS4 console, be sure to play The Order 1886. This dark action game in the steampunk style does not offer any original mechanics, but it allows players to admire the beautiful graphics.

Thanks to the efforts of the developers, the result is a real interactive film - you won’t immediately notice when a long interactive video smoothly flows into the gameplay. The level of detail in the game rivals that of early CGI graphics like those featured in the Final Fantasy animation.

Doom (2016 version)

  • Platform: PC, Xbox ONE, PS4, Nintendo Switch
  • Release date: May 13, 2016
  • Developer: id Software

The atmospheric shooter Doom has become a real treat for the eyes of gamers, while being perfectly optimized even for systems that are weak by today's standards. The setting of the game itself (the action takes place on a Martian base under attack by demons, and in hell itself) does not imply the presence of abundant vegetation, water and various effects that cause sagging frame rates. The power freed from the additional load was directed to more worthwhile things - high-quality high-resolution textures, effects from shots, explosions and realistic dismemberment.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEQuDIVcU7o Video can’t be loaded: DOOM First Trailer E3 2015 in 4K UltraHD (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEQuDIVcU7o)

Doom looks great even on medium settings, but it would be much better to turn the settings to ultra-nightmare levels and raise the resolution to 4K. True, you will have to fork out for a modern video card with 6GB of onboard memory and a monitor that supports 3840x2160.

Rainbow Six: Siege

  • Platform: PC, Xbox One, PS4
  • Release date: December 1, 2015
  • Developer: Ubisoft Montreal

At the start of sales of the multiplayer shooter Rainbow Six: Siege, many gamers felt deceived and quite naturally bombarded Ubisoft with accusations. And all because the gameplay and graphics shown turned out to be greatly reduced when compared with the promotional video released two years before the release. The developers were forced to cut some effects and remove destructibility in some places so that their project would produce normal performance in multiplayer battles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlbLLRdg9u8 Video can’t be loaded: Inside Rainbow Official Trailer – Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlbLLRdg9u8)

However, if you put aside the opinions of people with the “inflated expectations syndrome” and look at the picture objectively, you can see a well-done job - realistic light and shadows, well-detailed textures of characters and environments. Various small effects like smoke from shots, bullet marks on walls, etc. also look excellent.

Siege hits 60 FPS with an almost completely destructible environment! Graphics programmers have made the most of the In-house engine!

GTA V

  • Platform: PC, Xbox 360/One, PS3/4
  • Release date: September 17, 2013
  • Developer: Rockstar Games

At the time of release, back in 2013, the new part of GTA set another high quality bar for open-world games. The need to create a huge seamless space did not stop the developers from Rockstar from detailing the environment, making realistic changes in weather conditions and time of day, natural reflections in glass, water and other mirror surfaces. To unlock the potential of the game and turn the settings to maximum, gamers had to put their consoles on the shelf and buy powerful PCs equipped with video cards with a memory capacity of at least 4 gigabytes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFmArNoAVfw Video can’t be loaded: GTA 5 NEW ULTRA REALISTIC GRAPHICS MOD 2017 (4K) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFmArNoAVfw)

Now, of course, the new Just Cause is coming out, and the second Watch Dogs was able to show great graphics (no). Compared to them, GTA V is slightly outdated, but the situation is easily corrected by modders. Enthusiasts are posting more detailed textures on the Internet, playing with filters and lighting, and working on effects. This allows you to achieve impressive results - screenshots of a well-pumped version are difficult to distinguish from CGI and even real photographs.

Project Cars

  • Platform: PC, PlayStation 4, XBOX One
  • Release date: May 6, 2015
  • Developer: Slightly Mad Studios

The developers of this excellent racing simulator took the old engine from NFS Shift and worked hard on it, creating a graphically advanced product. The detailing of the textures, both inside the car's interior and on the exterior, is simply amazing. Yes and the world with its weather effects, dust from under the wheels, and a realistic lighting system, it will also delight those who like to sit behind the wheel of a virtual car. For graphics connoisseurs, a special photo mode has even been invented that allows you to take pictures of sports cars from different angles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjN6WfQUzbY Video can’t be loaded: Project CARS | Ultra Settings | Rain, storm (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjN6WfQUzbY)

Conclusion

As sad as it is to admit, computer game developers have stopped chasing realistic images in their games. This is due to their focus on the console market, which can provide much greater profits than sales on PCs. And since the hardware of these systems is not particularly powerful and is not able to squeeze out a stable 60 frames in new products (the same upcoming Spider-Man from Sony will work at a modest 30 FPS in FullHD), no one will add additional graphical bells and whistles to the game. We can only wait for the next generation of consoles and hope that at least it will allow us to achieve a technological breakthrough.

5 - Star Wars: Battlefront

Games with high graphics on PC continue to line up, according to the rankings.

The developers did their best for their fans and deserved 5th place. Were spent long hours the creative process of designers to photographically recreate a painting known to everyone from many films. A player who is at least somewhat familiar with the game's setting will easily recognize the landscapes of wooded Endor or the deserted terrain of Tatooine. The engine allows you to very accurately display any gaming space that literally came off the TV screen.

The efforts were appreciated even on consoles; we don’t even need to talk about personal computers – the picture, as always, is far superior in quality. Despite the fact that compared to its competitors for the attention of players, this shooter is not the most dynamic in gameplay, this allows you to thoughtfully examine all areas of the game space and actually immerse yourself in the game with your head.

And how exciting the space battles and the mesmerizing cosmic emptiness itself are depicted here... If you are a current fan of the legendary setting or just want to look at the equally famous landscapes, you are welcome to play the game.

4 - Rise of the Tomb Rider

Lara Croft Tomb Raider is back. The newest part of the series deservedly takes 4th place in the top 10 games with beautiful graphics.

The developers' serious work on the game design is immediately noticeable. Excellent depiction of every feature of the game world, real tracks in the snow by which you can follow your prey. Moreover, you can keep an eye on not only four-legged animals...

The camera independently strives to demonstrate to the player the beauties of the local nature for which the game received its place in the ranking. The designers took into account the possible human need to stop for a moment and admire the scenery, so even the game can slow down its dynamics at some points.

Even the whole world looks very realistic - real mountains, forests, cars, etc. And one important fact. Here the developers left Lara's legendary breasts, added a lot of tricks... You understand where this is going, right?

3 - Bloodborne

The situation is ambiguous. The game has truly amazing graphics that are based on classic gothic principles.

Superbly drawn adversaries, forcing the player to react to them independently. Because of this, it ranks third in the ranking of games with good graphics. And here’s the minus - as soon as you decide to look at the world without doing anything, you will instantly lose your head. Everything is according to classical Gothic principles.

It turns out that there is no time to look at the beauty of the game world, even though it is involved in the gameplay. Yes, yes, looking at the location, you can immediately see the blood of former visitors on the walls, destroyed buildings, and so on. The designers did a great job and the game’s graphics fit into the game, adding atmosphere to it and immersing you deeply, deeply.

2 - Order: 1886

This game can be briefly described in these words - an interactive movie in a Gothic style. And, as in any film product, the picture is very important here. Fully justified 3rd place in our list of 10 games with the best graphics. Every smallest particle of the game world is drawn on the highest level. Any object can be seen in small details without noticing falseness.

As soon as these beautiful touches of the world begin to get boring, the game immediately corrects itself - magnificent landscapes are used where you want to spend your life. After spending some time admiring it (and time will flow here like water), the “movie” part of the game begins.

That is, they add the cheerful dynamics of the action movie. Runs, shootouts, etc. perfectly complement everything seen earlier and harmoniously complement all components of the game. The game is unfortunately short, but the design makes you hold your breath. Besides, who knows if the game would have achieved such harmony between graphics, plot and gameplay if it had been longer?

1 - Dying Light

The top games with the best graphics on PC come to their logical end.

The first line of the rating is taken by... an ordinary zombie survivalist. True, fans of the game may accidentally kill you for this and, by the way, they will be completely right. Gameplay that accompanies quality survival, an interesting storyline that keeps the whole game in suspense, and graphics. Lively and well-developed game characters, smooth and realistic movements, real emotions.

The designers did not rest on the detailed study of the population of the game world and continued to amaze the imagination with the world itself. Standing on the roof, you can view the city without noticing the time. And moving around apartments can be very scary - an ordinary room, funny wallpaper... and blood-splattered walls, sometimes scraps of flesh.

Separately, these pieces of graphics have already been seen many times, but it has never occurred to anyone to put everything together and add excellent gameplay and story to it.

A fully deserved first place. (Fans, no need to execute us, we did everything right).
