How can you wash a cat if there is no special shampoo? How to wash a kitten if there is no special shampoo? Can I wash my kitten with regular shampoo? To wash a cat with a french faerie

In fact, cats are not as afraid of water as they are told. There are cats with pleasure climbing into the water like a jungle cat. My Murka gladly climbed into the pond and even swam across it several times. There are cats that calmly accept water procedures with the use of detergents and are not a bit afraid to be in the bathroom up to their neck in water. What cats are afraid of is splashing. If you want to bathe the cat and not get to the emergency room, try not to scare the animal with spray and do not make noise.

Prepare a couple of buckets of very warm water (the body temperature of a cat is slightly higher than that of a human and is 38-39.5 ° C, in kittens it is even higher) and take a basin in which you will bathe in advance. Do not open the shower with the cat, water from medium-sized saucepans almost end-to-end so that there is no splashing. Make sure no water gets into your ears. If you need to wash the cat one-time, and not carry out any water procedures, then, as a detergent, you can use Fairey. Yes, it is dish detergent. It will do an excellent job not only with cat fat on the coat, but it will quickly and effectively wash away more serious dirt. For example: machine oil, which not every shampoo will handle. Try not to use Fairy with citrus scent, cats don't like it.

Another factor that scares the cat is the ghostly support. The animal will be ready to endure a lot of bullying if it feels support under its feet. Most often, the bottom of the basin under the hind legs and the edges of the basin under the front legs will suffice for the cat. If you bathe your cat in the bathroom, place a board across the bathroom into which the cat can sink its claws. This is not just a support - it is a pre-launch position. Be prepared for the animal to dash forward. Constantly hold at least one front paw, clasping it with your palm above the knee, the hand comes in from the side of the animal's back. When trying to run, grab the scruff with your other hand and shake it from side to side. Here you can cope alone, but better together.

If you are washing a cat for the first time or already know that your cat does not tolerate water procedures, then you need to wash only together - one holds, the other washes and takes the cat out of shock if necessary. Both are dressed with long sleeves and are covered under the neck. It will be draped from the arms to the shoulders. It is advisable to trim the claws in advance, there will be fewer deep cut wounds (but more lacerated not deep) if the cat pulls out.

Hold your hand under your chest, your index finger between your paws, above your knees. Pinch so that it does not break out. Do not loosen your grip. For the hind legs, the same thing - stick your hand under the backside above the knees with the index finger between the legs. In this state, slowly put the cat in a basin of water so that he feels that he is standing on a support with all his paws, so it will be calmer for him. Raising for soaping is also slow.

The one who washes should make sure that the cat does not panic and starts to rush and bite the holder. If something happens, he should hiss at the cat, take it by the scruff of the neck and shake it from side to side, this will disorient and calm the cat. If it starts to bite, click your palm on your nose. The palm may be wet, but by no means soapy. It is much more difficult to calm down a cat with water or soap in the eye that has got into its nose.

After rinsing, wrap the cat tightly in a towel like a baby. After a couple of minutes, when the towel has absorbed most of the water from the wool, change the towel. After another couple of minutes, you can loosen your grip and, if the cat wants to get out, let the cat out - let it lick it.

If it seems to you that the cat is offended by you after bathing and you doubt its intentions at your expense, use

Compliance with hygiene is an integral part of the life of a cultured person. Hygiene is closely related to beauty and neatness. A person who neglects hygiene is unlikely to be able to make a positive impression on anyone.

Many pet owners transfer this healthy and beneficial habit to their pet. But is this true?

Cats are perhaps the cleanest creatures in this world. Their tongue with bristles, which is so keenly felt by our skin when licked, is intended for hair care. Cats groom themselves very often, thus maintaining a neat appearance.

The skin of cats is covered with a protective greasy layer that acts as a barrier to the environment and possible pathogenic agents.

These two facts already speak for themselves - bathing cats is not necessary. If the animal has access to the street, you can wash its paws. If an animal comes unimaginably dirty after a "walk" - there is no escape, it will have to be washed. But the number of baths should be limited. Especially if the animal lives in an apartment and has nowhere to get dirty.

Among other things, bathing is stressful for cats incomparable with anything (except perhaps with a vacuum cleaner or claw trimming). So bathing pregnant cats is not recommended.

Can I wash my kitten with regular shampoo?

So, is it possible with regular shampoo. It is not advisable to use shampoos for bathing cats, which we wash ourselves (even for children), for several reasons:

  • The skin structure of cats is very different from ours.
  • They have a higher skin pH.
  • You need to wash your cat with a gentle shampoo that will not completely wash out their protective layer of skin. If it is completely washed, it will take a long time to recover, and the cat will be susceptible to hypothermia, colds, infections for a long time.
  • After bathing, the kitten must be kept warm. Little kittens () are especially at risk of catching a cold after washing.

How to wash a kitten if there is no special shampoo?

If there is no special shampoo, you can wash (in case of extreme need) the cat with just water. It will perfectly wash away dirt without harming the skin. Shampoos for other types of animals are also not suitable.

So, how often can you wash your kitten with shampoo. The less often you need to wash your pet, the better. Under any circumstances, this procedure can be repeated no more than once every 3-4 months, the best option is 2 times a year (as needed).

When it comes to therapeutic bathing (for dermatitis, allergies, lichen), things are different: you need to wash the kitten as many times as the doctor prescribes in the appointment.

Show animals are also an exception - they are bathed immediately before the show.

If the animal is planned to be taken to exhibitions, it is necessary to accustom the kitten to water in advance, so that in the future it will experience less stress. Some advise to start as early as a month, but it is better to wait until two or three.

It is important to remember the following nuances:

The sequence of actions when bathing is as follows:

Important! It is better not to go into your ears without extreme need - if it seems that they are dirty, that a lot of sulfur is formed, it is better to contact a specialist, without first doing anything on your own.

If a tick is detected there, appropriate treatment is prescribed, and the doctor will show and tell you how and how to properly clean the cat's ears, as well as how to treat it. After the kitten has gotten rid of the tick, you can stop brushing regularly.

Bath day ... or how to wash your cat properly

When you hear the phrase "purebred cat" - the image of perfection comes before your eyes from head to toe ... from ears to tip of tail ... a shining mink plush or a delicate, silky, gracefully flowing long woolen coat - this is what causes everyone's admiration. In reality, owners of pedigree cats, in order to earn this admiration, have to make certain efforts to make their pet look, not like a cattle from a garbage can, with streaks under the eyes, all in mats and icicles, but as befits a privileged person.

Of course, nature has not deprived pedigree cats with the ability to independently care for their fur. But it is special care, by analogy with a woman's trip to a beauty salon, that is able to highlight all the advantages of your cat in the best possible way. And the length of your pet's coat is not important. Short-haired cats shed and get dirty no less than their long-haired brethren. A thick plush coat, of course, does not roll into tangles, and does not require too frequent attention from your side, but it also needs careful care, no matter what some ignorant and unscrupulous would-be breeders say about it. And it's not just a matter of the animal's appearance. The main thing is the health of “our smaller brothers”. In a modern apartment (or house), the smallest electrified (due to the abundance of household appliances and branched electrical wiring) dust particles settle on the fur of pets. When licked, these particles enter the cat's gastrointestinal tract along with the fur and cause various allergic reactions and immune disorders. So, the only way out is water procedures.

Let's just say - it's not so important whether you became the happy owner of a purebred cat or took a purebred cat into the house, if you want your pet not to complain about well-being and look perfect - learn the basics of hygiene of a modern domestic cat.

The purpose of this article is to help you learn how to properly care for your pet's coat, without going to extremes.

So, just three steps:

1. Purchase the necessary care products and tools

Below is a list where the brands that we use in our practice are indicated in brackets. You can choose the tools and tools of the brands that you like best. Let us only allow ourselves to give you advice: do not save on detergents and tools. Your rational impulse in this case will not bring any benefit. The fact is that expensive professional products are produced in the form of concentrates and their consumption is ten times less than that of budget shampoos, not to mention their effectiveness. As for the tools, those who buy cheap ones, as practice shows, do not use them because of their inconvenience and / or lack of the expected result.

Special comb for combing out faded wool (FURminator, USA)

Metal (preferably Teflon) comb with a wide enough spacing between the teeth (Trixie)

Nail clippers (Trixie)

Eye Cleansers (Eye Envy, Chilli, Kleenex Wet Wipes Alcohol and Fragrance Free)

Degreaser (Groomers GOOP, Jerob)

Shampoo (Groomers GOOP, Jerob)

Apple cider or white vinegar (natural filtered or distilled)

Conditioner (Groomers GOOP, Jerob)

Antistatic and / or grooming powder (Jerob)

2. Keep it clean daily

Do not forget about the hygiene of the cat litter box, then your cat's paws will not smell unpleasant and turn yellow. It is enough to change the litter in time and disinfect the tray after each change of the litter.

If you have a long-haired cat, brush it with a comb once a day to avoid tangling. Make it a part of your life. Your pet will react favorably and will love you even more for your attention.

If you have a short-haired cat, she will not need daily brushing, but during the period of intensive molting, you, as well as the owners of long-haired beauties, need a furminator (preferably the original American FURminator or European counterparts corresponding to the price). Use it once a week. Avoid combing the tail and collar as they take a long time to grow back.

Regular eye care is essential. Once you have a kitten (especially if it is white), you will need to cleanse your eyes every day (at least once a day). The fact is that small kittens devote a minimum of time to caring for themselves compared to adult cats, so almost all babies have small brown discharge in the corners of the eyes, which leave marks. With age, the need for such care disappears by itself (with rare exceptions when increased lacrimation is associated with the structure of the skull, for example, if the eyes are "rolling out").

NOTE: Discharge from the eyes can be a symptom of certain diseases. When the discharge is too abundant, or of an unusual color, this is a reason to contact your veterinarian. If you have passed all the tests and ruled out possible diagnoses, then it is NOT necessary (contrary to the recommendations of the sellers in the pet store) to use drops and ointments with antibiotics for leaving. Then your kitten will not build up immunity to strong drugs. And lacrimation will decrease over time by itself, if you adhere to proper nutrition and hygiene rules.

It is enough to rinse your eyes with water or wipe with a damp swab. If you have a white cat (or other light color), then use cotton pads moistened with an aqueous solution of boric acid or iodinol to remove stubborn brown marks and keep the fur under the eyes white. Or you can use special powders like Chilli or Eye Envy, as we do. DO NOT use any kind of bleach (such as hydrogen peroxide) as it will make your hair very porous and dry (and may harm your eyes). Plus, if you clean your cat's eyes every day, you won't need to use bleach anyway. Right?

3. Learn to bathe your cat properly, and do it regularly.

As we have already said, for the health and maintenance of condition, every modern cat needs a bath at least once every one and a half to two months. This simple procedure also significantly reduces the amount of hair in your home.

Before water treatment, trim the nails on all four paws and gently comb your cat's coat with a furminator (if the coat is very long and thin, use only a comb). Never use slickers!

Prepare your bathing area. If your cat is not accustomed to bathing from early childhood, then she is likely to panic when you try to put her even in an empty tub (large basin), let alone a bath of water. Therefore, the best option for most cats is a lattice-style shelf that fits over the bathtub. Place the animal right on top of it. In this case, your back will not get as tired as if you wash the cat, bending down. And don't forget to close the bathroom door, as cats tend to run away.

Before bathing, clean under-eye hair using Kleenex Alcohol-Free and Fragrance-Free Wet Wipes. Wipe the fur around the eyes with the required amount of tissues until the stains are removed. However, you can simply rinse under the eyes with plenty of water using the pads of your fingers if your pet doesn't panic while bathing. Then wipe your eyes thoroughly with a dry cloth.

As for the ears, it is enough to wipe the auricles from the inside with a damp cloth or a cotton swab slightly moistened with water or lotion. If your cat's ears are too dark or dark in color, see your veterinarian. Normally, the earwax should be nearly transparent.

Start your bathing process by degreasing. We start with Groomers GOOP Paste or Jerob Pre-cleaning cream. Alternatively, you can use dishwashing liquids such as Fairy, Palmolive, or Ivory (do not use colored dishwashing liquids because they contain dyes that can dye light colored cats).

NOTE: Before using degreasing products, it is worth checking if your cat is allergic to them by applying a small amount of the product to a small area of skin and letting it sit for 5 minutes. If the skin turns pink, the product cannot be used.

When using GOOP, someone like us applies the paste to a dry coat (which is preferable in terms of efficiency), someone else prefers to apply it to a wet coat. Some people only use it around the ears, on the collar and on the pants, where the wool turns into icicles, splits and looks oily.

Rub the product well into the coat to the very roots. Then rinse off under running water for at least 5 minutes.

NOTE: One of the most important things we have learned about properly washing cats is the need to thoroughly rinse shampoos and conditioners from the coat. If it is not enough to rinse the wool well from these products at least at one stage, the whole process will be in vain. The cat will look dirty after washing.

To rinse behind the ears, hold your ear with your finger downward. To wash the top of your head, hold your head with one hand, pointing your muzzle up, and while rinsing your forehead, push the water with the palm of your other hand away from your eyes and nose.

Dry the cat's face with a small hand towel to make sure the eyes and nose remain dry. This keeps the animal calm, as a wet face makes the cat feel like she is drowning.

The next step is shampoo to rinse off any remaining degreasing agents. We use Groomers GOOP or Jerob Herbal Shampoo. With the choice of shampoo for this step, you can experiment to find the one that best suits your cat's coat. But remember that human shampoos are not suitable for cat hair. In an emergency, you can use a “no tears” baby shampoo, but you shouldn't wash the cat with it all the time, as the coat becomes too soft after it, and tends to form tangles.

Next is the application of a tint shampoo, depending on the color and texturizing shampoo. It's not obligatory. Just for beauty. We use All System or Jerob shampoos. However, you can use whatever you prefer. Cat lovers are in luck, today you can find grooming products of any manufacturer in online stores or through professional breeders who often buy products abroad for themselves with a margin.

If using a tinted shampoo, apply directly to the wet coat without thinning, then add water and massage to create a lather. Leave it on for 2-5 minutes.

The next step is to rinse out the remaining soap. We do this with the help of a shower, and we spend at least 5 minutes on it. For best results, we add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar or white organic vinegar to a pitcher of water and pour over the entire body of the cat straight from the pitcher, avoiding the head. This removes all shampoo residues and restores the natural PH. After that, rinse the wool again with a shower stream.

If your cat's coat is not in the best shape after the heating season, if it is thin and dry - at this stage you can add a hair mask to the regular washing program. Here, too, for your choice - any organic mask. You can do that for people, for example, Redken Climatress or something from Lush. Or you can use a special cat, for example Jerob with cocoa butter and mink butter. Before applying the mask, lightly squeeze the cat's fur with your hands, and after applying, wrap the cat in a towel and hold for about two to three minutes. Talk to the cat, calm her down. Then rinse the coat especially thoroughly.

NOTE: After using the masks, your cat's coat will look slightly unwashed after bathing. Therefore, after such medical procedures, bathing must be repeated in a week, but without a mask.

And the last step is to use conditioner. We add a drop of Jerob coding to a jug of water, mix well and pour the wool over the body, starting from the area behind the ears to the tip of the tail. Next, guess what? Rinse again !!! Rinse with water jet until the coat is no longer slimy.

Some breeders use fabric softener as it helps remove static electricity and makes the coat very soft. But, these conditioners have very strong and recognizable fragrances. As we said, cats don't like strong odors. And you are unlikely to like that your pet smells like a towel.

NOTE: If your cat is too shy, at first you can use the express washing method: ask someone to help you, prepare two large basins of warm water, dissolve a small amount of concentrated shampoo in one, a drop of conditioner in the other, and, Holding the cat firmly by its front and hind legs, lower it first into the shampoo basin, then into the conditioner basin. The task of your helper, while holding the cat in the basin, is to rinse the fur with his hands.

Everything! The cat is washed. Now it needs to be dried.

First, wring out excess water from the fur with your hands, wrap the animal in a dry soft towel or sheet. Don't rub. You don't want to damage your precious fur.

The place where you will dry the cat should be warm and free of drafts.

Unfold the towel and gently comb the wet coat with a fine-toothed metal comb. Turn on the hair dryer to the coldest temperature (hot you risk losing some of the precious fur), wait a minute and start drying the cat from the back of the tail. Climb up the back, combing the coat from time to time with a comb. If the cat doesn't like a specific area, dry it elsewhere and come back to that area later.

NOTE: Do not direct the jet of air into the cat's face. If the cat is very nervous, ask someone to help. After all, if you do not dry the coat dry, it will curl up on the chest and collar, and the cat will look untidy after bathing. In addition, many pedigree cats have such a thick coat that it will naturally dry for half a day. During this time, a lot of dust will stick to the wet wool, which will nullify all your efforts. And, in the end, a cat that is not completely dry can catch a cold.

When you feel dry coat close at hand, only then can you let go of your pet. Offer her a particularly favorite treat as a reward for her patience. Better yet, just leave it alone and take a nap. She deserved it.

NOTE: Dry wool can become highly electrified, especially during the heating season. To avoid this, the dried coat can beprocessspecial antistatic agent for cat hair or powder for grooming.

If you did everything right, your cat will look great! We know, all this seems complicated, but, as soon as you start, and after a couple of successful procedures, everything will become routine. And the result will pay off all the trouble with interest!

For most cat owners, it is no secret that if they already decided to wash their pet, then it is necessary to purchase a special product for animals. But how can you bathe a cat if there is no special shampoo? Is it possible to use human cosmetics or is it worth washing the cat without shampoo at all? We will try to understand these issues.

Why can't you wash your cat with human shampoo?

The structure of the skin and hair in humans and cats is very different. There are very few sweat and sebaceous glands on the surface of cats. The skin reaction is 4.5-6 (as opposed to a human pH of 3-4.5). The upper stratum corneum is thin and sensitive - it is easy to dry such skin with alkaline soap and cause irritation with artificial additives.

A cat's fur coat is a complex multi-level system that is involved in the regulation of the animal's body temperature. At the same time, its important element is guard hairs, which, adjoining each other, create a dense layer.

Violation of the hair cuticle by aggressive detergents leads to the fact that the coat becomes dull, tousled, tangles are easily formed in it. It cannot cope with its protective and thermoregulatory properties.

The difference between cat shampoos

In this regard, human and feline shampoos differ greatly in appearance and composition. For example, it is easy to verify that cat detergents have different pH values.

In addition, the cat shampoo should be completely rinsed off so as not to pose a risk of poisoning, because the cat will be thoroughly licked after bathing. As a rule, such products do not contain harsh-smelling fragrances so as not to irritate the animal's sense of smell.

How to wash your cat when there is no special shampoo at hand?

If the cat is not very dirty, you can simply locally wipe its fur with a cloth moistened with warm water. But there are situations when a cat requires urgent bathing procedures, for example, it is heavily smeared in something, or its fur is contaminated with some toxic substance (which is undesirable to lick).

In this case, one of the acceptable solutions is to use shampoo or liquid soap for newborns, or children under 3 years old, with a neutral pH level, a minimum content of artificial additives, dyes and fragrances.

You can also use hair detergents intended for adults, only choose the most gentle of them. These can be the so-called mild shampoos designed for dry and damaged hair (they are distinguished by a low pH level), as well as alkalis.

Cats are clean by nature - they constantly lick their fur, wash their paws, it seems that they cannot clean their muzzle only from the inside. Some breeders believe that this feature avoids bathing with special shampoo. Indeed, for a pet, it is almost always a real stress, and many representatives of the cat family fiercely hate water. But there are also owners who do not see anything wrong with regular water procedures - on the contrary, they believe that it is they who help to make the pet's coat flawless - clean and silky.

Who to believe, how often do you need to bathe domestic cats and is it necessary at all? Judge for yourself: these four-legged animals spend most of their time on hygiene. In addition, the animal itself knows when it needs to walk its tongue over the fur, and does it with such thoroughness that one can only envy such diligence. And such a fluffy tenant practically does not go out into the street. Should I introduce him to shampoos?

When do you need to bathe your pets?

By nature, most cats are very clean animals. At any time free from sleep, food or entertainment, they lick their fur, put their fur coat in order.

One could decide that the pet hygiene issue has been removed. But this is not the case. There are times when cats need to be washed with human intervention.

It is necessary to wash the cat as needed in such cases:

Even if nothing happens from such cases, you should not give up bathing your pet.

Altered environmental conditions, synthetic food, dirty water and air leave a negative reflection on the condition of the coat and skin of pets. The best grooming method is bathing.

Instructions on how to properly wash a cat

  • Pre-fill the bath with water: theoretically, it should reach the animal's abdomen.
  • Place the prepared bedding on the bottom of the tub to keep your feet from slipping. What is the correct way to wash a cat if it is not stable?
  • Only now bring the cat in and confidently, but smoothly, start submerging it in the water.
  • Watch the bather's reaction: if an attempt to slip out and escape from a wet place is on your face, call for help from your family for holding in four (six, etc. hands). If there are no obvious attempts to escape, then give the animal some time to get used to and come to terms with the inevitable situation.
  • You can try to somehow defuse the situation, distract attention with an affectionate conversation.
  • Gradually wet the cat with the water you have collected. Lather a damp coat with a little shampoo. Don't pour too much - it usually foams a lot. Rinse paws, chin and tail very thoroughly.
  • The moment of truth is coming. Proceed to rinse off the soapy wool. If the coat is very thick, wash it more thoroughly to wash everything thoroughly, including the undercoat.
  • The pressure of the water should not be too strong, its temperature should be the same as at the beginning. Cats love very warm water, so even the most uncompromising ones warm up and stop resisting.

Are you finished? Is there hope for release in the cat's eyes? You will have to suffer a little more - the cat should be soaped and washed off at least twice. Remember that she hasn't bathed in months.

How often can cats be washed?

Cats that are not allowed to go outside are bathed once every three months, and the owner must also periodically brush it. If the owner lives in the city, then the pet that walks every day in the yard should be washed once every one and a half to two months. An animal that lives in a village and walks along the rural streets is washed three to five times a year. Hairless cats should be bathed more often - every two weeks in summer, once a month in winter. You must adhere to the following recommendations:

  • many owners do not know at what age to bathe a kitten. Of course, early water training will allow you to bathe an adult cat without any problems in the future. But it's worth knowing that tiny kittens are badly affected by temperature changes. It is better that the mother cat takes care of their cleanliness in the first months. After the loss of milk teeth (4 months), you can wash the kitten for the first time;
  • how often to bathe a kitten? It depends on his reaction to the first bath. It will be good if he is not afraid of the water and is happy to jump into the bathroom. If the kitten is playing with water, do not scold him. But still, most animals do not like water procedures, so the kitten should then be bathed after changing milk teeth;
  • adult cats need to be washed 2-3 times a year. The number of baths depends on the breed. Persians, especially pure white and peach, can be washed once every 2-3 months. Breeds such as British "plush" and European cats do not need water treatment at all. Only wipe the Sphinx with a wet cloth;
  • do not bathe cats if the room is very cold. A wet animal can easily get sick. It is undesirable to wash animals during illness, after vaccinations, so as not to subject the weakened immunity to even more stress;
  • a pregnant or lactating cat is washed in an emergency so as not to create a stressful situation

A wet cat, contrary to popular belief, does not need greenhouse conditions. Average room temperature is a very good condition for natural drying. Drafts are much more dangerous for a wet pet, so the window and door to the room where the cat dries should be covered. Another danger is the stress to which the cat is exposed, not accustomed to water procedures. Nothing threatens the nervous system of a healthy pet, but the state of health of weakened or sick animals may worsen. Vaccinations and the post-vaccination quarantine period are another reason to postpone the swim.

Until the complete change of teeth, kittens are bathed only if there is a real need. Is it possible to bathe a pregnant cat? Pregnancy is not a disease, vaccinations have been made long ago, and I would like to keep hygiene at the same level, because the cat will soon become a mother. However, veterinarians, for the reasons listed below, give a negative answer to the question: is it possible to wash a pregnant cat? The mom-to-be should only be bathed if she gets dirty in something that should not get into her stomach.

There is a risk of injury every time you swim. Your cat may awkwardly jump out of the bathtub, drop an object onto itself, or fall over slipping on a smooth surface. For a cat, a slight injury is not dangerous, but even a minor injury can harm babies. Draft and stress can cause miscarriage or abnormal pregnancy if the dog gets sick during the drift. Is it possible to bathe a pregnant cat if the term is short? It depends on the temperature in the room and on the attitude of the expectant mother to water: if the cat is not afraid of water procedures, you can bathe her if necessary.

Chemistry, which is present even in expensive shampoos, can also harm babies, although it does not pose any danger to the cat itself. No matter how thoroughly the owner rinses off the shampoo, some of the product will still remain on the coat and enter the cat's stomach. Is it okay to wash a pregnant cat knowing that she is swallowing chemistry?

It is undesirable to use ordinary shampoo, it is better to dry clean the wool: four tablespoons of ground oatmeal (or starch) and two teaspoons of baby powder. The powder is gently rubbed into the fur, massaged and carefully combed out. The same remedy will help out if the owner ponders whether it is possible to bathe a nursing cat (chemistry, drafts and stress can lead to the termination of lactation or a decrease in the quality of milk). If traditional bathing is necessary, the shampoo should be as safe as possible - based on natural ingredients, for kittens.

Drying the cat after washing

Contrary to the opinion of most, after washing the cat, it is not at all necessary to dry it with a hairdryer or try to create a greenhouse conditions for it. A healthy pet will dry out calmly at average room temperature. The only thing is that there should be no drafts in the room, otherwise the cat may catch a cold.

Keep in mind that bathing is stressful for many animals. Be affectionate with your pet, talk to him and in no case punish him, because he is not capricious, but really afraid. Train your pets to bathe from an early age so that in the future they will treat this procedure more calmly.

Features of bathing long-haired cats

In fact, it was the simplest algorithm for bathing pets, calculated so that the pet does not bring much trouble during water procedures. In order not to be afraid that the animal may escape, some owners use special clamps that are attached to the bathroom wall with a suction cup. Such a device does not strangle the animal, and at the same time it keeps it.

If the pet's fur is strayed or matted, it is better to comb it out or even do a manicure and pedicure with special scissors. For better removal of dirt, a degreasing paste is applied to the collar area, behind the ears and on the tail. If you do not yet know how often to wash your cat, we recommend that you go through this procedure from start to finish.

Perhaps you simply do not have the skill and time to wash the animal as often as you would like. After applying the paste, wash it off gently with water. You can cover the ears of the animal with your hands. Next, a degreasing shampoo is applied and washed off several times. It is believed that the rinsing procedure should be repeated until the characteristic “squeak” of the coat appears.

After shampoo, you can apply a balm to keep the coat dry. We wash off the balm in the same way and let the water drain a little. The animal's fur is carefully soaked, for which you can use several different towels. Now you can get the animal out of the holder and move it to the place where we will dry and comb the cat. Of course, such a complicated procedure is especially in demand among owners of long-haired individuals who require special care.

What shampoo to wash a cat?

Shampoos for human hair, even the softest and baby's "no tears" are not suitable for cats. Cats are bathed with shampoos with a special composition and alkaline balance, which are gentle on sensitive skin. If you have ever tried washing a cat with soap, then you probably know that nothing good came of it: only irritated dry skin and dull hair after bathing. Take the time and money to specially buy shampoo for a cat at a pet store:

  1. Liquid shampoo for cats consists of natural ingredients that care for the coat. It is sold in small bottles, but it is consumed sparingly, and it lasts for a long time if the cat is washed no more than a couple of times a year. The company produces tar shampoo for cats, shampoo with medicinal herbs, special shampoos for fluffy, smooth-haired breeds and shampoo for cats with problem skin.
  2. Dry shampoo for cats it is like talcum powder or baby powder: this fine powder is applied to the coat, and then combed out along with dirt and excess sebum. It is recommended to wash the cat with dry shampoo if he absolutely does not tolerate water. But dry pet shampoo is more expensive and less effective than liquid detergent.

You don't need to wash your cat with flea shampoo often unnecessarily; instead, use a mild pet grooming detergent from the pet store. Anyway, remember the main rule of bathing cats: better less often than more often. If you can not wash the cat, do not wash it. Instead, brush out the coat frequently with a special down-padding brush to prevent it from rolling and forming hard tangles.

Grooming of cats before an exhibition is a separate topic; special rules of care and frequency of bathing apply here. About a week before the competition, the cat is bathed with shampoo to shine the coat, then sheared and treated with powder for volume. If your pet does not participate in exhibitions, then we can say that both his and your life are relatively simple and pleasant, and you can wash your cat occasionally and without violence.

What can not be used to bathe a cat

There are a number of products that cats should not be bathed with, even if the situation is critical. Simply put, no matter what happens, use clean water rather than bathe your cat with:

  • Shampoo for humans - contains fragrances, does not correspond to Ph. Bathing is guaranteed to lead to skin problems.
  • Shower gel - similar to the point above, moreover, it foams more, that is, it is more difficult to wash off.
  • With shampoo for dogs - there is only one exception, which is relevant for an acute situation - a means for bathing puppies.

Suppose a cat gets stained with something toxic, for example, a viscous poison, can the above remedies be used? Naturally you can! In any situation, you need to compare the degree of risk, because dermatitis is a trifle compared to the death of a pet. If a similar situation has already happened, use the most transparent and colorless product, but in no case wash the cat with dishwashing detergents and other household chemicals.

Consequences of the wrong choice

An improperly selected shampoo or actions that you were forced to take in a critical situation lead to a host of problems with the skin and coat. The difficulty is that an illness that has already begun can be overlooked. Monitor the condition of the coat, if it has lost its luster or looks tousled - examine the skin.

Seborrhea is the most common consequence of poor dog skin care. The disease is accompanied by a disruption in the work of the sebaceous glands of the skin and the release of too much fat. It should be understood that the cause of seborrhea may be unhealthy diet, inappropriate conditions of detention, allergies, etc. The ailment is divided into two types: dry and oily (wet). Both forms are difficult to cure and are quickly complicated by dermatitis. With seborrhea, if bathing is prescribed, it is performed only with veterinary drugs that "knit" sebum. Most often, local processing of wool and leather is prescribed.

Dermatitis is a very broad, one might say, collective term that indicates skin problems. Globally, dermatitis is divided into:

  • Lightweight (superficial).
  • Wet.
  • Purulent.

By the nature of its occurrence, dermatitis is divided into:

Contact - most often occurs in the nose, affects not only the skin, but also the mucous membranes. Important! After bathing with the wrong shampoo, your cat can get any type of dermatitis!
