All-Russian Order of Friendship of Peoples Academy of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation(VAVT) is one of the leading Russian universities, training specialists in the field of international economic relations and finance, foreign trade management and international law.

The Academy includes 19 departments, 6 faculties, the VAVT Business School, which includes 6 MBA programs, the VAVT Higher Commercial School, specialist retraining programs, language training programs, the “Translator in the Field of Professional Communication” program, graduate school, the Center for Basic Scientific Research, the Center for Strategic research on Russian foreign trade policy.

Story

1931-1991

The All-Union Academy of Foreign Trade was founded in 1931 with the direct participation of Anastas Mikoyan, who then held the post of People's Commissar of Foreign and Internal Trade of the USSR, and later People's Commissar of Supply. The Academy was subordinate to the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR. In 1939, the Academy was granted the status of a higher educational institution for training persons with higher education in the specialty “International Economic Relations”.

The international cooperation

International cooperation is an integral part of the academy’s activities, the goal of which is the further integration of VAVT into the global educational and scientific space. This work is carried out within the framework of cooperation programs with leading foreign universities, the implementation of international educational projects, the organization of scientific and practical seminars and conferences, and the exchange of teachers and students. Since 2002, VAVT has been participating in the implementation of the European Community project TEMPUS, within the framework of which teachers and students of the academy have the opportunity to undergo internships at universities in Western Europe.

Studying at VAVT provides students with the opportunity not only to obtain a diploma of higher education, but also to prepare VAVT students for:

  • passing the Cambridge FCE (First Certificate in English) exam to obtain the British Council International Certificate, which is recognized by universities and employers abroad, as well as passing the higher-level Cambridge exam CAE (Certificate in Advanced English).

Department of English Language, Faculty of International Law

The English Department of the International Law Faculty has existed for 40 years.

The department was founded in September 1970 as the Department of English of the Faculty of International Economics to train personnel to work in the United Nations and a number of other international organizations, then it was transformed into the Department of English of the Faculty of State and International Foreign Economic Service.

In September 1999, the department was renamed the Department of English Language of the International Law Faculty.

The Academy was subordinate to the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR. The first director of the academy (1931-1937) was Stokowski Marian Ludvikovich. In 1939, the Academy was granted the status of a higher educational institution for training persons with higher education in the specialty “International Economic Relations”.

In 1964, the Academy, along with the Faculty of Foreign Trade Economists, created the Faculty of International Economists (FEM) with the aim of training personnel to work in international organizations of the UN system. In 1969, a faculty of advanced training began to function at the academy, which in the 1980s was transformed into the Institute of Advanced Training and later became the main base for the creation of the Moscow Institute of International Business. In 1973, the Academy established the Faculty of Foreign Economic Relations, which trains personnel to participate in programs of economic and technical assistance of the USSR to foreign countries. In 1988, a postgraduate course was opened and the Council for the Defense of Candidate's Dissertations was created. In 1990, the International Commercial Faculty (ICF) was created on the basis of the Faculty of Foreign Trade Economists and the Faculty of Foreign Economic Relations.

In 1992, the academy was renamed the All-Russian Academy of Foreign Trade.

In 1994, in connection with the introduction of a new classifier of specialties, the Academy switched to training in the specialty “World Economy”. In accordance with the adoption of the “Regulations on the Federal public service» VAVT began training civil servants involved in the management of foreign economic activity and the development of international economic, scientific and technical cooperation at the federal and regional levels. On the basis of the Faculty of International Economists, the Faculty of State and International Foreign Economic Service was created. In 1994, the Far Eastern branch of VAVT was opened in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

In 1996, VAVT began training in the specialty “World Economy” on the basis of complete secondary education in full-time and evening classes. The student Faculty of International Economics was created. In 1996, a faculty of professional retraining and advanced training of specialists with higher education was created to work in the field of foreign economic activity. A faculty of bachelors in the areas of “Management” and “Economics” has been created. In the field of Economics, full-time and external studies have begun. In 1997, the academy received a license to open the specialty “Jurisprudence”. The International Law Faculty (IFF) was formed, and the training of students began on the basis of higher education (evening department). In 1999, MPF began training on the basis of complete secondary education ( day department). In 2000, VAVT began to provide professional retraining under the “Master of Business Administration” (English MBA) program. The Council for the Defense of Doctoral Dissertations has been created. In 2001, enrollment was opened for the Faculty of Foreign Trade Management in the direction of “Management” with full-time study and in the form of external studies. In May 2010, the Faculty of Finance was formed, later renamed the Faculty of International Finance, separated from the Faculty of International Economists.
