Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia - general information

The length of an earthly day is determined by the time it takes the Earth to rotate around its axis, and is 24 hours. A consequence of the rotation of the Earth is both the change of day and night, and the fact that when moving from west to east by 15° longitude, the local solar time, determined by the apparent position of the Sun, increases by 1 hour.
IN Everyday life official local time is used, which differs to a greater or lesser extent from solar time. The entire surface of the Earth is divided into time zones (in other terminology - time zones). Within the same time zone, the same time is used. The boundaries of time zones are determined by considerations of convenience and, as a rule, coincide with interstate or administrative boundaries. The time difference between adjacent time zones is usually one hour, although in some cases the time in adjacent time zones differs by two or more hours. There is also a time shift of 30 or 45 minutes.
For most countries, the entire territory of the country is within the same time zone. The territory of countries that extend from west to east over a considerable distance, such as Russia, USA, Canada, Brazil and a number of others, is usually divided into several time zones. The exception is China, throughout which Beijing time is used.
The reference point for determining the time zone offset is Coordinated Universal Time or UTC. UTC corresponds to the mean solar time at the prime or Greenwich meridian. Time zone offsets relative to UTC range from UTC-12:00 to UTC+14:00.
Almost all countries in Europe and North America, as well as a number of other countries, move their clocks forward an hour in the spring, by summer time, and in the fall - an hour ago, to winter time. The offset of the respective time zones relative to UTC changes twice a year. However, most countries in the world do not practice this clock change.

Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky today it is the administrative center of the Kamchatka Territory. As of 2013, the city's population is 181,618. The city is located on the territory of the Russian Far East, in the southeast of the peninsula Kamchatka. It is located on the coast of Avachinskaya Bay of the Pacific Basin. Near the city Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky the currently active volcanoes Avachinskaya and Koryakskaya hills rise.

On this moment Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is the location of the base of the entire Russian Pacific Fleet. Communication with the Russian mainland is carried out using international airport"Elizovo".

It was founded in 1740, and named after the ships participating in the Second Kamchatka Expedition, which were called “St. Peter” and “St. Paul”. During the Crimean War, the garrison of the city of Petropavlovsk repelled the attacks of the combined Anglo-French fleet. Today Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is today the easternmost of the cities of Russia, as well as Eurasia and the whole world, with a population exceeding 100 thousand people.

I have long wanted to visit Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The only thing that was alarming was the time difference with Moscow. I finished school a long time ago and, to be honest, I completely forgot how many time zones separated these cities. But interest overcame all fears.

It turned out that it is in the very latest for Russia, 9 time zone. This news did not make me happy. It was scary to imagine that when I boarded the plane in Moscow late in the evening, it was already morning in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky next day, and people were rushing to work. You need to move the clocks forward 9 hours upon arrival in this city.

I was unable to prepare for such a sudden change in time zones in Moscow, because no one canceled work, so I had to adapt to the new rhythm of life on the spot. In the first days of my stay in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, I had to experience in all its glory the phenomenon of jet lag. At night I absolutely didn’t want to sleep, but during the day I felt like a sleepy fly. This caused lethargy, dizziness, and irritability. But I adapted pretty quickly.

So what can you do to quickly adapt to a new time zone? I would like to give some advice from my practice:

  • change your watch while still on the plane;
  • walk more fresh air;
  • don't drink coffee and energetic drinks to cheer up;
  • eat more light foods;
  • limit your time nap or give it up completely;
  • do exercises in the morning and afternoon, but in the evening physical exercise contraindicated.
