In this article you will learn how to stop being nervous and become calm person. I will present you with five proven ways to calm down, and at the end I will give you an exercise that will allow you to relax right now and look at all your problems differently.

How to stop being nervous and become calm - 5 ways

I present to your attention five guaranteed ways to stop being nervous and become a calm person, as well as an exercise that will allow you to calm down right now:

Method #1: Exiting negativity through the body

Sports will help you remove accumulated negative emotions through your body the fastest. Negativity comes out most quickly through the body. Running, strength training, fitness, dancing - choose what you like. After just a few days of training, you will feel significant relief. But the main condition is that you must “plow away” the first week, literally work your ass off, without sparing yourself. At the initial stage of work, it is important to launch the mechanism for removing toxins. To do this, you need to make every effort, give your best full program at least in the first week. Otherwise, the negative emotions accumulated in the body will remain inside you. If laziness is stopping you from starting to exercise, I recommend that you read the article about.

In the first month of work, I suggest exercising three to four times a week. This will help you remove from your body all the accumulated blocks, impurities and toxins formed as a result of suppression negative emotions. Push yourself, literally take yourself to the gym.

Training gives brilliant results, you will feel yourself becoming calmer, more easily tolerating minor failures and focusing on positive aspects. This is due to the fact that during sports the body not only frees itself from negativity, but also produces positivity in the form of endorphin, the so-called hormone of happiness. So, if you want to stop being nervous, become calmer and even happier, run to a workout!

Method #2: Resource moments - anchors

In this section, I will tell you about an exercise that relieves stress. It returns the body to the state of happiness that you once experienced. Our unconscious stores all the information it has ever received. In other words, at the subconscious level, you remember absolutely everything that happened in your life from the moment of birth to today. The only problem is that there is a barrier between consciousness and the unconscious, and not every person can overcome this barrier.

The easiest way to return to consciousness are those memories to which smells and sensations are attached. It is the sense of smell and kinesthetics (bodily sensations) that are always one hundred percent imprinted in your body. For this reason, the smell of tangerines reminds you of New Year's celebrations, and the smell of, for example, baking brings back childhood memories of summer with your grandmother in the village. How it works? Something happens to you, and at this time you smell something or experience certain sensations in your body.

The next time you smell the same smell or experience the same sensations, memories of the situation you were in will come flooding back to you (or you will find it easier to immerse yourself in it). Exercise. Whenever you are in a resourceful state (when you really feel good), smell something and leave this smell in your memory. If you succeed, then remember your sensations in your body. And then this resource state will remain with you forever.

For example, remember the last time you went to the sea. Remember what it smells like? Or maybe you remember what you felt in your body when you were lying on the shore? Or, for example, on that vacation you bought pina colada more than once, and it is its smell that you now associate with this vacation. Basically, think of a smell or feeling that reminds you of that vacation. It works! Do it right now and see for yourself.

When you are exposed to pleasant memories, your brain will let you re-experience that smell or those bodily sensations. And if the desired smell or sensation is within your reach, give it to yourself in reality (and not just with the help of memories). For example, order that same pina colada at the bar. But if the smell you are looking for is the smell of the sea itself, and the sensations cannot be replaced by anything, then just remember this smell or sensations, and then your body will feel the pleasure that you experienced while on vacation. This exercise returns you to the state in which you once were.

Of course, it doesn't have to be the sea. And not even necessarily a place, but, for example, a person with whom you had a good time. Remember his smell and how you felt next to him - and you will feel as good as you did then. The proposed technique will help you calm your nerves, no matter what unbalanced state you are in. Learn to remember the smells and sensations in those moments when you feel good. Ideally, you can specifically smell something and thus establish a connection in your head between a pleasant event and the smell. Do this constantly, and then the happy moments of your life will be clearly remembered by you. And now returning to this state will not be difficult - after all, you remember the smell and feeling.

This technique is called “anchor”. Anchors are the keys to memories (in in this case smells and sensations). Place an anchor on every pleasant event in your life, and then it will be easy for you to return to a state of happiness in any incomprehensible situation.

Method #3: Changing reactions

What we are not aware of controls us. If you are in nervous state, which means that at this moment something is controlling you. In order for this to stop and you to learn to react calmly to circumstances, you need to track and learn to realize what exactly you are reacting to out of temper and change your reaction.

Let me give you a simple example. The boy Vanya caught a worm for fun and decided to play with it. He hung the worm by his index and thumb and started poking him with a needle. The worm twitched, and Vanya felt so funny that he started poking the worm again and again. The worm twitched even more, to which Vanya began poking at it with even greater force.

When the worm realized that his reaction to the pain from the needle provoked the boy to poke him even harder, he decided to play dead. Vanya continues to poke at the worm, but it seems to have died. And Vanya became uninterested in being with him, he threw the worm and went to look for another, one with whom he would be more fun. The worm could have acted differently, for example, grabbed Vanya’s finger and began to furiously attack the boy. Perhaps this would have led to the same outcome - Vanya would have unhooked the evil worm from himself and, with resentment, would have gone to look for other entertainment.

The moral of the story is: if something makes you angry or irritated, notice, recognize and change your reaction to it, and the stimulus will stop getting on your nerves. Because it's not about the stimulus, it's all about your reaction to it. When you become aware of your reactions and learn to choose them, you take the reins into your own hands and begin to control the situation yourself.

The stimulus is annoying as long as you continue to respond to it in the usual way. By changing the response, you change the behavior of the stimulus. But as long as you react the same way, you are a worm on Vanya’s hook. Because you allow the situation to control you. Become flexible, take control of the situation. Look at it from the outside and realize how you need to react in order for the irritant to go away or begin to act differently.

Become a conscious person, choose your reaction depending on who is in front of you. Approach the question flexibly: pretend to be a fool, laugh it off, quietly move the conversation in a different direction, or, conversely, talk to the person frankly. Everyone needs something different. Learn to see what the person in front of you needs. And you new way response will change the behavior of the interlocutor.

Choose your reactions, and then you won't meet people who make you nervous. They themselves will begin to treat you differently, because it will no longer be interesting to play “stimulus-reaction” games with you, because you will already be in a different role. They will either change their attitude towards you or simply leave your life. If it’s difficult for you to change your reaction because you have a grudge against a person in your soul, be sure to do this. And one more important point! It is impossible to change the reaction as long as you have aggression towards a person. You can read how to get rid of aggression.

Method #4: Present moment

The most effective way to stop being nervous and become calm in a few seconds is to be in the present moment. For example, you are calling clients at work, and one of the calls really hurt you. You are angry and cannot concentrate and calmly return to work. The call annoyed you, but it is already in the past. Continuing to think about him, you are mentally in the past, giving him your energy and standing with your back to the present. In order to stop being angry and continue working, you just need to learn to be in the present.

Think about what you are doing. Think, for example, like this: “Now I am at work and performing one of my tasks - calling clients. IN this moment I look at my client base and pick up the phone to call the next one. And now I’m dialing numbers and calling this client.” At first, thoughts from the past will constantly creep into your head. In response, simply interrupt them with thoughts about what you are doing at the moment or about what is around you. This technique perfectly helps to unload the brain and cast aside far-fetched problems and obsessive anxious thoughts. Use it constantly, and then you will not only become a calm and balanced person, but also learn to fully enjoy life.

Method #5: Discipline

If you are often nervous and worried, then most likely there is a lack of discipline in your life. The first type of discipline is mental discipline. Learn not only to be in the present, but also to be aware of all your thoughts. Once you learn this, you will be able to discard unnecessary things and think about what is truly important. It takes practice to become aware of your thoughts. Think about what you are thinking about (pardon the tautology) and regulate the course of your thoughts. Until this moment, your thoughts wandered chaotically, like goats in a garden. But from now on you can begin to be aware of them and manage them.

Let me give you an example. The girl Tanya was abandoned by her boyfriend, and she cannot forget him. In order to finally do this, she needs to learn to control her thoughts and start thinking only about what benefits her. Let's say Tanya once again remembered how her ex took her to a restaurant and gave her flowers. She starts crying remembering this and thinks that she won't find anyone better. To stop giving her energy to the past and turn her face to the present, she needs, when she once again thinks about her ex, by an effort of will force herself to switch one thought to another.

For example, think about what she is doing at the moment, or about her goals, plans and intentions. Or about something good and positive. Think about what is beneficial for her, about what will benefit her. Otherwise, she will simply throw away her time, energy, as well as beauty and health.

Begin to be aware of what you are thinking about. And with an effort of will, move your thoughts to where it is beneficial for you. Think about what brings you energy, strength, health and success. Get your thoughts in order and from now on don’t let them wander where they shouldn’t. Mental discipline is not everything. Equally important is discipline in your daily actions. It's about both work and rest.

Write a plan for each day and try to follow it as much as possible. Come up with a plan that suits your capabilities. Do not overload yourself under any circumstances. If you haven’t completed something, don’t criticize yourself, just do it tomorrow.

Plan your daily rest too. Unload your brain for at least half an hour every day. Read your favorite book or take a bath. But! This rest should also be part of your daily plan and should not exceed the recommended amount. In general, introduce discipline into your entire life, and you will be surprised to find that you have stopped being nervous and have finally calmed down. Self-discipline doesn't have to turn you into a robot. It should streamline your thoughts and your actions so that you stop worrying, worrying and getting angry, and start doing and thinking only what is important and useful for you.

Method #6: Independence

If you often feel nervous, it means that you are not happy with the current state of affairs in your life.

According to statistics, more than 80% of people in the world are dissatisfied with their lives. Some people go to a job they don’t like every day, others aren’t happy with it personal life, undignified salary, the city in which he lives, his surroundings. These people allow circumstances to control them, and they themselves cannot change anything, because “the family won’t approve, I’m not the right age, I won’t find a better job, they’ll laugh at me.”

Especially for these 80% of people (perhaps you are among these people), I made a video course - this is a 1-hour video consisting of practical tasks and exercises, after completing which you will stop allowing people and circumstances to control you, learn to stand up for yourself, talk out loud about what you don’t like.

The video course will allow you to become an independent person. You will finally begin to change everything that does not suit you in life.

Exercise "Space"

Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Think about your biggest pressing problem. Look at it from the outside, through the eyes of an observer. Then imagine yourself slowly climbing up hot-air balloon, higher and higher. At the same time, do not take your eyes off the problem. Please note that it has become significantly smaller. Imagine how you rise above the ground, see many people, mountains, rivers, cities.

Are you still seeing your problem? Go up into space and look at it from there. How do you like her? If you look at this moment his life from afar, from cosmic heights, then the view of him changes. We are just grains of sand in this world. Your problem, if you look at it with your usual eyes, seems global and insoluble to you. But try to look at it from space, and you will understand how insignificant it is, and how little it means for the world and even for your life in general. Now it will be much easier for you to cope with it, because it is so small.

Change your perspective more often and learn to look at unpleasant situations from afar. This exercise can be applied to absolutely any event, be it anxiety before an interview or a scandal with your wife. If this is, for example, an interview, then look at you with a potential employer from the depths of space. Not so scary anymore? Both you and the employer are just two small points on this earth. And the interview itself is not a problem at all, but just one thousandth of your life and one billionth of the life of our planet.

Many people are constantly in a state of anxiety, and as soon as it is resolved another problem, they start worrying about something else. And so, year after year, they succumb to this bad habit, which takes away strength and deprives the joy of life. If you know such a property and want to become happier, I'll try to help you.

Solve problems as they arise

Don't worry about the past or the future! Think about today, decide only what is needed at the moment. And that doesn't mean you don't care about the future. Quite the opposite: if you live today as well as possible, this will be the key to a good future. Every morning tell yourself that today you will do everything to make the most of this day, because you only get to live it once! Don’t poison your life with worries about the past that cannot be changed, and don’t waste time in empty dreams about the future, be happy today, right now!

Think about the worst that could happen

If you are worried about a situation, think about what could happen in the worst case scenario? Is it so scary and is it worth worrying about? Prepare to accept any consequences calmly and look for ways to improve the situation.

Set Clear Goals

It doesn’t hurt to know clearly what you want from life. Then there will be much less reason for concern - after all, a purposeless existence excludes peace of mind.

Learn to solve problems effectively

Start by writing down everything that's bothering you and prioritizing it. Then, next to each problem, write down what you can do, schedule when you will do it, or start solving the problem immediately. Write down all your tasks in a diary and cross them out as soon as you finish - this will save you from anxiety caused by confusion and fear of a mountain of tasks, which in reality always turns out to be not so scary!

Keep yourself busy with something interesting

If you are used to constantly worrying about trifles, try doing something interesting. You need to occupy every minute so that you simply have no time to think about something extraneous - read, dance, take pictures, play games! By focusing on one thing, you won't be able to worry about all that nonsense.

Let's correct assessment things and situations

Most people pay too much for many things. What seems valuable and important to you now will probably depreciate over time - so is it worth breaking spears and causing a scandal? Stop and think about whether the price you are paying is too high?

Get rid of guilt

If you think that not worrying about anything means being a soulless egoist, then you are mistaken! Your experiences can lead to neurosis and stomach ulcers, but they cannot help anyone. Do not confuse experience and compassion, the first is a product of fear, the second is a product of love. Compassion means transferring the situation onto yourself and striving to help the victim in accordance with your experience, and not tormenting yourself with empty experiences. So if you can’t help, stop wasting your time. And you shouldn’t take responsibility for the actions of other people - they are adults and must make decisions themselves.

Don't create a problem for yourself

Often, in anticipation of some event, we begin to replay it in our minds, imagine the worst and get upset. Ask yourself: what is the likelihood of this actually happening? Relax - what will happen will happen, and if you cannot change a future event in any way, stop worrying about it. For example, you passed the exam and, nervously, are waiting for the result. But you’ve already done everything you could to get a high grade, and worrying won’t change anything.

Get rid of fear

Are you afraid that you will be fired, that your wife (husband) will cheat on you, that your children will not live up to expectations, that you will get fat, lose weight, get old?.. Stop it! You can always find another job; not all husbands and wives cheat - especially if you both try to save the family. You can almost always lose weight and gain weight back if you want! And everyone gets old, nothing can be done about it! Well, are you not afraid anymore?

Accept your own imperfections

If you don’t like yourself and constantly worry about it, you urgently need to change your attitude towards yourself! Self-love is the basis of mental balance. You should love yourself no matter what you look like, and having high expectations won't do you any good. No one is perfect, beautiful models on magazine covers look completely different in real life! So love yourself with all your weight, height, freckles and so on.

Don't worry about other people's opinions

Do you often worry about what other people will think? Believe me, they have plenty of other things to do to think about you! So do what you want – within reason, of course, and don’t worry about other people’s opinions. It also doesn't hurt to boost your self-esteem - there are many articles and books on this topic. And then you won’t be unsettled by a rude word or a sidelong glance from another person.

Understand that no one has to live up to your expectations.

Do you often get angry with your loved ones because they are not what you want them to be? But you also have shortcomings. Stop harassing those around you with petty quibbles, accept them for who they are - after all, an adult cannot be changed if he himself does not want to change!

Balance work and pleasure

If you only want to have fun, then work will only irritate you - because it takes away precious time that could be spent on entertainment. In this case, you need to realize the need to earn money and start enjoying the process. If this is not possible, look for another job. Remember – a job you don’t like shortens your life by 8 hours a day!

Stop rushing!

There are people who try to do everything as quickly as possible. They have everything according to plan, every minute is scheduled - and this is a constant source of stress! After all, absolutely any little thing can unsettle and cause irritation: an unexpected phone call, a sudden blackout, broken plate. Stop and enjoy the peace and this very minute that you were going to mindlessly waste in pursuit of speed. By constantly rushing, you may be late to do the most important thing - enjoy life.

You won’t be able to stop worrying about anything right away, but if you try to reconsider your life values, you will gradually become calmer and happy man. Start by being aware of what bothers you, and every time irritation arises, ask yourself: “Why is this happening?” And so, day after day, you will become a more harmonious person

The state of nervousness is not alien to every person, especially considering the high pace of life and great amount information flows. In such conditions, even minor failures can lead to depression, apathy and other nervous disorders. In order to stop worrying about and without it, you need to learn to control your emotions. There are certain ways to help you calm down and stop being nervous.

Causes of nervousness.

The state of anxiety and mental anguish can be provoked by various circumstances. Every person has different values and for this reason different situations can throw him off balance. Often, a person himself heats up the situation by attaching excessive significance to things that are not worth it. Causes of nervousness can be:

  • Dangerous situations that pose a threat to health or life;
  • Fear of failure or, in fact, failure itself;
  • Fear of looking inappropriate in front of others;
  • on the eve of important events;
  • Anxiety over conflicts and everyday trifles.

The occurrence of moral discomfort due to any stress factor is not physiological process, this is a psychological adjustment. From a physiological point of view, nervousness is associated with the properties nervous system, and from a psychological point of view - with personality characteristics. Thus, the tendency to be nervous is not a natural reaction to stress, but a specific person’s reaction to what is happening.

Ways to stop being nervous.

Thanks to hard work on yourself, it is possible to overcome the state of nervousness. The following ways will help you control your emotions:

Avoiding or eliminating stress.

If you know that a particular situation causes you to experience bouts of anxiety and negative emotions, then, if possible, you should avoid them in advance. If the situation arose spontaneously, then try to find a way to eliminate it. However, not all problems can be “run away”. This method suitable if you are upset by a movie, communication with a new acquaintance, news in social network– close the movie, leave the meeting, go offline.

If it is impossible to use the method of avoiding negativity, this method will be appropriate. If you find yourself in an environment that makes you nervous, it's worth trying distraction techniques. A good option There is a mental distraction - thinking about something of your own, but visual distraction - contemplation on something extraneous - works even better. This strategy is suitable for meetings and travel.

Drinking water.

A simple but scientifically proven method. A glass of water, drunk without haste, can trigger the body’s self-rehabilitation mechanism. The method is relevant in any situation.

Passion for an interesting activity.

Techniques can include: reading a fascinating book, knitting, drawing, computer games, leisure. You should be interested in some kind of intrigue, courage, rapid development of events. In pursuit of new sensations, it is important to follow the rule - do not harm anyone else.

Water procedures.

Water – healing agent to improve psycho-emotional state. Water, both literally and figuratively, washes away all the “dirt.” The following techniques can be used: taking a bath or shower (can be combined with music therapy and light therapy), visiting a sauna or bathhouse, swimming in a river/pond/sea. Even regular washing dishes will help distract you and bring benefits in the form of directly clean dishes and normalization of your state of mind.

Physical release.

This method physiologically causes physical relaxation and, as a result, moral relief. Among the effective methods are: long walks on fresh air, dancing, spring-cleaning, work in the garden, sports training, destruction of old things.

Intimacy.

Sex is a great cure for the blues. Ideally, sexual contact should occur with a loved one, but other options are also acceptable. The main thing is to approach the issue wisely and not forget about contraception, otherwise the stress that you can experience after taking a pregnancy test will overshadow all other efforts.

Comparison.

It is enough to compare your situation with a worse case scenario. This method teaches you to appreciate what you have and realize that your situation is not worth such nerves. Effective way can be called for minor problems that are not related to health and a significant decrease in quality of life.

Positive outlook.

A stressful event should be assessed in a positive way. That is, you need to find the positives in the fact that this happened. Maybe thanks to this, you will get much more and pleasant events await you.

Laughter and tears.

These two opposite phenomena can bring moral relief. Although their intertwining is possible: laughter to tears, crying to laughter. Making fun of the problem itself or laughing about something else will lift your mood and help you move away from anxiety faster. Crying, the stronger the better, relieves stress. Even though in the process of sobbing it seems to you that relief is still far away, a new wave of emotions may wash over you, but after the hysteria ends, you will definitely feel better. With tears, toxic substances that are formed during stress are released from the body.

Chat with friends.

It is not necessary to speak out about a disturbing topic, especially if it is not significant. Better once again do not remember the unpleasant incident, but simply communicate and enjoy it. But, as an option, discussing your problem is also acceptable. Friends will listen, it may be important for you, and they may advise you on something else.

What methods are best not to resort to?

There is a group of methods that have only apparent positive effect from dealing with nervousness:

  • Drinking coffee
  • "Sticking" problems
  • Smoking
  • Drinking alcohol
  • Taking drugs

Perhaps these methods will help to overcome stress, but their use, especially in large quantities, causes great harm to health and, ultimately, to a person’s entire life. Therefore, in the balance, the harm significantly outweighs the benefit.

It is very important to learn to live without burdening yourself with worries about trifles. Your health depends on this useful skill, since frequent nervous breakdowns may lead to its deterioration.

  • Calmly think about ways you can change the situation

A person should always carry in his mind the thought that worry and anxiety cause enormous harm to his health, which cannot be compensated for by anything.
