Buteyko Konstantin Pavlovich respiratory. Buteyko breathing exercises: the essence of the method, exercises, reviews

In 1952, Konstantin Pavlovich Buteyko, proposed a physiotherapeutic method that reduces the symptoms of asthma, based on nasal breathing and a decrease in the depth of breathing. The scientist put forward the idea of alveolar hyperventilation - deep breathing. The idea of the author was that no matter how deeply you breathe, there will be no more oxygen in the blood, but there will be less carbon dioxide CO2. But human life is born in the womb, where there is an order of magnitude more carbon dioxide! At birth, the baby breathes and eventually begins to breathe deeply. From which diseases appear. The Buteyko method helps to treat 98% of the main human diseases. This is approximately 152 diseases. The method was tested for 40 years in various hospitals of the USSR and in 1986 received recognition from the USSR Ministry of Health and a patent for an invention. Those times were "muddy", and therefore the method was not widely used. The invention was recognized as useful very late ...

Nevertheless, for more than sixty years, breathing exercises according to the Buteyko method, exercises invented by the author, have been used to treat asthma and other various diseases. What confirmed the thoughts of the author of the method on the way to recognition?

A healthy person has a breathing volume of 5 liters, an asthmatic person - 10-15 liters. Hyperventilation of the lungs is obvious and akin to air gluttony!

The author found out that deep breathing leads to the following diseases: bronchial asthma, pneumosclerosis, asthmatic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema, hypertension, cerebral vascular sclerosis, angina pectoris, chronic nephritis, violations cerebral circulation, sclerosis of individual organs, cerebral infarction, etc. Increased blood pressure is a factor in the lack of CO2 in the blood. Allergy is a secondary sign of hyperventilation, and therefore the search for an allergen is unjustified work!

These diseases are the result of an increase in the tone of smooth muscles, spasm and are caused by a violation tissue respiration.

Hyperventilation causes overexcitation nervous system. It is characterized by irritability, insomnia, irascibility, dysregulation of metabolism. The symptom is autonomic disorders- sweating, bouts of weakness. Lack of physical labor, negative emotions, sleeping on the back, the use of proteins and fats lead to hyperventilation; chronic infections, habits - coffee, tea, nicotine. In general, as the author himself said, everything that makes you breathe, and this is what is promoted by Western civilization contrary to the canons of the Bible, the commandments of Buddha ...

Help in learning correct breathing: breathing exercises, muscle relaxation before the delay and their sharp tension towards the end, water procedures, skiing, self-massage, physical activity.

During normal breathing, a healthy person takes a shallow breath for 2-3 seconds, a slow exhalation for 3-4 seconds, a pause for 3-4 seconds. During the pause, the lungs of a person rest.

To be healthy, a person needs to increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the blood. But how can this be done if it is practically absent in the atmosphere? It's simple - you need to reduce the depth of inspiration and increase the pause after exhalation. Periodically, maximum breath holdings should be carried out, especially during asthma attacks. The breath should be shallow, incomplete. All the time there should be a feeling of lack of air. While holding your breath, you need to raise your eyes up, thereby massaging the trigeminal nerve. It is also advisable to close the nose during the control breath holding. At the same time, all those involved should be aware that all diseases associated with hyperventilation, when breathing is normalized according to the VLHD method (volitional elimination of deep breathing), first become aggravated and then disappear.

It should be remembered that during the reaction of recovery (breaking the disease), a person feels resistance. It is unpleasant for him to do the exercises, fear, disgust appear, pains of a different nature appear, there is an aversion to food, breathing quickens and breath holding is shortened. In order to prevent an exacerbation of the disease during this period, it is necessary to continue to perform exercises. During recovery, the attacks are easier and become shorter. Remember - what happened to you for years disappears in days! In the morning, you need to do a control breath hold. If it is reduced, the disease is approaching.

Preparing for Exercise

Sitting on a chair, back straight, hands on knees. You need to relax (breathing is shallow), as if you are afraid to inhale. At the same time, exhalation through the nose should also be imperceptible. The air coming out of the nose should be so quiet and weak that the fluff near the nostrils does not move. A feeling of lack of air should appear in the chest. Breathe like this for 10 minutes. Keep in mind that holding your breath can only be done by exhaling air. At first it will be warm, then it will become hot, sweat will appear. Before and after exercise, measure the pulse and the maximum pause. The norm for a maximum pause is from 30 to 60 seconds.

Other exercises to prepare for constant, natural breath holding:

* In the upper parts of the lungs.
5 sec. - inhale, 5 sec. - exhale, 5 sec. - pause. Repeat 10 times.
* In the diaphragm and in the chest (full breath).
7 sec. - inhale, starting from the diaphragm, ending chest breathing; 7 sec. - exhale, starting from the diaphragm, ending with the lower part of the lungs; 5 sec. - pause. Repeat 10 times.
* Take a full breath alternately through the left and right nostrils. Repeat 10 times.
* Draw in your stomach.
7 sec. - inhale, 7 sec. - exhale, 5 sec. - pause, draw in the abdominal muscles. Repeat 10 times.
* We ventilate the lungs as much as possible.
Make 12 quick breaths and exhalations, 2 sec. - inhale, 2 sec. - exhale. Immediately perform the maximum pause on exhalation 1 time.
* Rarely breathe.
5 sec. - inhale, 5 sec. - exhale, 5 sec. - pause. Repeat 4 times.
5 sec. - inhale, 5 sec. - delay after inhalation, 5 sec. - exhalation, 5 sec. - pause. Repeat 6 times.
7 sec. - inhale, 7 sec. - delay after inhalation, 7 sec. - exhale, 5 sec. - pause. Repeat 6 times.
10 sec. - inhale, 10 sec. - delay after inhalation, 10 sec. - exhale, 10 sec. - pause. Repeat 6 times.
* Perform the maximum breath holding on the exhale, then on the inhale 1 time.
* Pause: sitting 3-10 times, pause walking 3-10 times, pause running 3-10 times, pause squatting 3-10 times.
* Superficial, invisibly breathe from 3 to 10 minutes - gradually reduce the amount of inhaled air. Severe shortness of breath indicates correct execution exercises.

The purpose of the exercises is to get a natural control pause of 40-60 seconds. To control the treatment according to the Buteyko method, we, together with the editors of the site www.site, recommend keeping a diary, where you should indicate the symptoms of the disease, previously used medications and methods of treatment, as well as their effectiveness. Also reflect the time of the exercises, the control pause of breath holding, pulse, general state. Breathe according to the Buteyko method and be healthy!

Buteyko Method

Introduction
Spirit-soul-breath

Wise men at all times said: in order to know God, a person must first of all ... learn to breathe! In other words, improve your breathing. Only in this case, a person will be able to confidently manage not only his words and emotions, but also his health and even fate.

Therefore, in the history of mankind, the process of breathing and conscious work with it was paid attention to by all religious traditions and systems of spiritual practices without exception.

So, the Torah tells how God breathed life into Adam, thereby reviving him. It also says that the breath returns to God after the death of a person.

In many world cultures, the concepts of breathing are also key. Indeed, in many languages the words "spirit", "soul" and "breath" have a common origin. Since ancient times, people have singled out breath as the main property of everything living and animated.

V Chinese philosophy one of the main categories "qi" is defined as "air", "breath", "energy". The ancient Chinese believed that "qi" permeates everything in this world and connects everything together.

In Indian medicine, the concept of "prana" literally in Sanskrit means "life", "breath". And yogis are sure that “prana” permeates the entire Universe.

And from ancient Greek mythology the word “psyche”, which translates as “soul”, “breath”, migrated to the arsenal of world philosophy, psychology and medicine.

The breathing practices themselves originated many thousands of years ago in the East: in India - Pranayama, in China - Qi-gong, in Central Asia- the Sufi system of exercises, in Tibet - the breathing practices of Vajrayana Buddhism. All these Eastern teachings penetrated the West only in the 20th century. And in the 21st century they have become a vital necessity.

The fact is that modern civilization has changed people a lot. And first of all, we have changed because we have forgotten how to breathe correctly. Comfort comes at a very high price. After all, our health depends on how we breathe.

Diseases of civilization

Even 300 years ago, when medicine was not developed, sick people were “culled out” natural selection. And most people barely lived to adulthood, leaving no sick offspring.

Under these conditions, not only most of diseases was determined genetic defects, but most of the diseases were the result of conditions and lifestyle. It wasn't until the introduction of antibiotics that serious infections were eradicated. There were fewer deaths. And live longer. But life has changed.

The first fruits of civilization are the appearance of a huge number of harmful products, due to which the human body began to become clogged with toxic concentrates, chemical carcinogens, new refined food products and alcohol. Human genes were not adapted to such changes. And natural selection stopped working, because medicine worked well. And then new chronic diseases appeared, shortening life. Scientists called them "diseases of civilization." They develop at first imperceptibly for a person, as they accumulate harmful effects external and internal environment. The person is not sick yet, but not healthy either. But he could be healthy if he began to apply the necessary measures in a timely manner. Prevention is of particular importance precisely in the fight against the "diseases of civilization".

And one of the most important preventive measures is the ability to breathe properly. Experts assure: breathing is a reliable barometer of the state of the human body. Even by how often and deeply we breathe, we can put accurate diagnosis any ailment and prescribe treatment. And in the end, cure not only the body, but also the head. According to scientists, breathing is closely interconnected not only with the state of health, but also with the state of consciousness.

Maybe breathing not only keeps the soul in the body, but also decides its fate?

Basic instinct

What does it mean to breathe correctly? Strange question at first sight. After all, each of us daily makes almost 20,000 breaths and exhalations. And we don't really think about how we do it. Otherwise, the same tragedy would have happened to us as with the hedgehog from the joke. Remember? A hedgehog ran through the forest, forgot how to breathe, and died. Breathe! This basic instinct was laid in us by nature. A person is considered born when he takes his first breath. And dead - when he draws his last breath. Between the beginning and the end there is only a series of breaths. The same is with our smaller brothers.

But everyone breathes differently. For instance, the simplest form breath possess jellyfish. Oxygen dissolved in water is absorbed through their skin, and dissolved carbon dioxide is expelled to the outside in the same way. And on the abdomen of insects there are many small holes. Each of these pores is an entrance to a tube called the trachea. It works just like a human snorkel, or windpipe! Thus, insects breathe in the same way as we do, with the only difference being that hundreds of breathing tubes can be located on their abdomen.

And the rate of breathing, that is, how often we inhale air, largely depends on the size of the creature itself. The larger the animal, the slower it breathes. For example, an elephant inhales about 10 times per minute, and mice about 200. And it turns out that life expectancy is directly related to the frequency of breathing: an elephant lives longer than a mouse. And turtles breathe very slowly and live very long lives.

The average person inhales 16 times per minute. But maybe less often - 6-8 breaths per minute. And maybe more often - up to 20 times a minute. Depending on the circumstances. Moreover, children younger age breathe 20-30 times per minute, and babies - 40-60 times!

Doctors have been thinking about the riddle of uneven human breathing for a long time. The first information and advice on proper breathing were already found on Chinese jade inscriptions, which date back to the 6th century BC. Ancient sayings teach: “When breathing, you need to do the following: hold your breath, it accumulates, if it accumulates, it spreads further, if it spreads further, then it goes down, it becomes calm, if it becomes calm, then it strengthens. If you release it, then it grows, when it has grown, you need to squeeze it again. If you squeeze it, it will reach the top of the head. There it presses on the head, presses down. Whoever follows this method lives, and whoever does the opposite will die.”

Revolutionary opening of Buteyko

Konstantin Buteyko (1923–2003), scientist, physiologist, clinician, made a revolutionary discovery in the field of medicine in 1952. He argued that people breathe incorrectly - very deeply. And it is precisely because of this that they often and seriously get sick.

The scientist found that, contrary to popular belief, deep frequent breathing (and we have always been taught: “Breathe deeply!”) Does not contribute to oxygen saturation. Sick people inhale more air, which leads - paradoxically - to a decrease in the level of oxygen in the cells of the body. The fact is that the cause of the development of diseases is hyperventilation (this is intensive breathing that exceeds the body's need for oxygen. – Author.). That is, with deep breaths, the amount of oxygen received by a person does not increase, but carbon dioxide becomes less. And its deficiency leads to serious diseases. For example, lung volume healthy person 5 liters, and a patient with bronchial asthma - about 10-15 liters.

According to Buteyko, excessive removal of carbon dioxide from the body leads to spasms of the bronchi and blood vessels of the brain, limbs, intestines, and bile ducts. The vessels narrow, which means that less oxygen is supplied to the cells. In cells, biochemical reactions change, metabolism is disturbed. Thus, chronic "overeating" of oxygen leads to oxygen deficiency.

Konstantin Buteyko argued: the deeper the breath, the more sick the person is. The more shallow his breathing, the healthier and more resilient he is. Therefore, Buteyko breathing exercises are a system of healing the body. It is aimed at limiting deep breathing and is called the "method of volitional elimination of deep breathing (VVHD)", which allows you to get rid of hyperventilation of the lungs.

“Breast breathing leads to the fact that we inhale too much air, and our blood vessels constrict,” Buteyko wrote. - Healthy breathing- slow, no more than 16 breaths per minute, through the nose, as well as quiet and light. An important rule is to breathe only through your nose. Because only the nose is equipped complex system air filtration and heating. The nose is only for breathing, and the mouth is for eating food.

When breathing through the mouth, the air that enters the lungs is not moistened, is not purified from microscopic dust and everything else, which leads to various diseases and negative phenomena in the respiratory tract:

Decreased respiratory function of the sinuses;

memory disorder;

The composition of the blood changes (the amount of hemoglobin, calcium, sugar falls; the acid-base balance is disturbed);

Changes in physical development;

Impaired development of the facial skeleton;

The functions of the nervous system are impaired ( headache, nervous tick, irritability, urinary incontinence, night terror);

Frequent development of tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia;

There is a hearing disorder;

Vision is impaired;

Digestion worsens;

Decrease in protective properties respiratory tract upon infection.

This is an approximate list of diseases and disorders that can occur with mouth breathing disorders.

WHAT THE NOSE DOES

The beginning of the respiratory tract is nasal cavity. It performs a number of important functions in the process of respiration. Firstly, the nose is the first barrier to the entry of harmful substances from the environment into the lungs. The hairs of the nostrils trap dust particles, microorganisms and other substances that enter the nose during inhalation.

Secondly, cold air, passing through the nasal passages, is warmed by the warmth of the blood vessels. Thanks to this, already warmed air enters the lungs. In addition, in the nasal cavity, the inhaled air is humidified, and nasal mucus due to local immunity fights against harmful microorganisms and viruses.

In children, in comparison with adults, the nasal cavity has a number of distinctive features. The nasal passages are narrow, and the nasal mucosa is abundantly supplied with small blood vessels, so rhinitis often occurs in children. To prevent this from happening, children from an early age must be taught proper breathing through the nose.

It is with diseases of the nasal cavity (chronic rhinitis, adenoids, curvature of the nasal septum, etc.) that many lung diseases and respiratory dysfunction begin.

The nose is the first and most important boundary line between the “inner world” of our body and the aggressive external environment. Passing through the nasal passages, cold air is moistened by nasal mucus and warmed by the warmth of the blood vessels. Hairs growing on the mucous membrane of the nostrils and nasal mucus trap dust particles, protecting the bronchi and lungs from pollution. With every breath, the nose bravely takes on the dangerous components of the air, disinfecting the air stream. Faced with a virus attack (and today science knows 200 respiratory viruses), the nose tries to resist it with its own means - it produces a huge amount of mucus, which washes out harmful agents. In the absence of infection, about 500 ml of mucus and fluid are formed in the nose per day, and much more during illness. That is why a person with a runny nose should increase daily intake liquid at least 1.5–2 liters.

In general, a runny nose is a signal that you have been “attacked”. At this point, you need to act very energetically to stop the further spread of the infection. Otherwise, "harmless" squelching may become a precursor to more serious problems with health.

KONSTANTIN BUTEYKO SAID THIS:

“The paradox is that when a choking asthmatic greedily swallows air, this only aggravates his condition. I want to breathe even more, my lungs work like bellows, my heart beats like a motor at full speed, and there is not enough oxygen anymore. One has only to hold one's breath, relief comes instantly. A defensive reaction is triggered: without waiting for the next breath, the body reacts to the delay by expanding blood vessels in order to deliver as much blood as possible to the organs and provide them with a maximum of oxygen. Normal breathing is not only a breath for the next portion of oxygen, but also a reasonable pause on exhalation, necessary to save carbon dioxide, which we are in a hurry to get rid of, considering it harmful.

There were constant suffocation. The severe attack continued for two days.

Cured by the Buteyko method.

The essence of the method

The scientist experimentally proved that the blood of healthy people contains much more carbon dioxide than in patients with, say, bronchial asthma, colitis, stomach ulcers, or those who have suffered a heart attack or stroke. Therefore, in order to save a person from an illness, it is only necessary to teach him how to save carbon dioxide in his body. To do this allows NOT DEEP, BUT SURFACE breathing.

To saturate the blood with carbon dioxide, which is very small in the surrounding air, you need to regulate your breathing, making it superficial, and the pauses between breaths longer.

The advantages of Buteyko breathing exercises are the ability to perform exercises anywhere and anytime: at home, on a walk, at work, and even in transport. In addition, it is quite simple and suitable for all age groups, from children from 4 years old to people of the most advanced age.

The essence of treatment is to gradually reduce the depth of breathing. As the breath holding lengthens, the blood and tissues become more and more saturated with oxygen and carbon dioxide, the acid-base balance is restored, metabolic processes are normalized, the immune defense. And the disease recedes.

Diagnosis: chronic obstructive bronchitis with asthmatic component, chronic adnexitis, thyrotoxicosis. Complaints of daily paroxysmal cough in the morning, culminating in an asthma attack, shortness of breath when walking fast. The initial depth of breathing exceeded the norm by 20 times.

From the first day of the Buteyko method, the need for medicines disappeared. By the end of the month of training, the depth of breathing exceeded the norm by 6 times, there were no attacks of suffocation, no coughing.

Why is carbon dioxide important to humans?

Quotes from lectures, articles, books by Konstantin Buteyko:

“... The toxic effect of deep breathing or hyperventilation was discovered back in 1871 by the Dutch scientist De Costa. The disease is called "hyperventilation syndrome" or the initial stage of deep breathing, which accelerates the death of patients. In 1909, the famous physiologist D. Henderson conducted numerous experiments on animals and experimentally proved that deep breathing is disastrous for a living organism. The cause of death of the experimental animals in all cases was a deficiency of carbon dioxide, in which an excess of oxygen becomes poisonous. But people have forgotten about these discoveries, and we often hear calls to breathe deeply.

* * *

“... A few words about the origins: life on Earth arose about 3-4 billion years ago. Then the earth's atmosphere consisted mainly of carbon dioxide, and there was almost no oxygen in the air, and that's when life arose on Earth. All living beings, living cells were built from the carbon dioxide of the air, as they are being built now.

The only source of life on earth is carbon dioxide, plants feed on it using the energy of the sun. For billions of years, metabolism took place in the atmosphere, where the carbon dioxide content was very high. Then, when plants appeared, they and algae ate almost all the carbon dioxide and formed coal reserves. Now in our atmosphere, oxygen is more than 20%, and carbon dioxide is already 0.03%. And if these 0.03% disappear, the plants will have nothing to eat. They will die. And all life on earth will perish. This is absolutely true: a plant placed under a glass jar without carbon dioxide immediately dies.”

* * *

“We were pretty lucky: we knocked down more than a hundred of the most frequent illnesses nervous system, lungs, blood vessels, metabolism, gastrointestinal tract and so on. It turned out that these one hundred odd diseases are directly or indirectly related to deep breathing. The death of 30% of the population of modern society comes from deep breathing.

* * *

“... We prove our case instantly. If a hypertensive crisis cannot be removed for weeks, then we remove it in a few minutes.

“Chronic pneumonia in children, lasting 10-15 years, is eliminated by reducing breathing in a year and a half. Cholesterol stains, deposits in patients with sclerosis on the eyelids, which were previously removed with a knife, but they grew again, dissolve according to our method of reducing breathing in 2–3 weeks.”

"The reverse course of atherosclerosis has been undeniably proven by us."

* * *

“We have established a general law: the deeper the breath, the more severely sick a person is and the faster death, the less (shallow breathing) - the more healthy, hardy and durable he is. Carbon dioxide plays a role in all of this. She does everything. The more it is in the body, the healthier it is.

* * *

“The fact that carbon dioxide is important for our body is confirmed by embryology. The latest data show that for 9 months all of us were in seemingly terrible conditions: in the blood we had 3-4 times less oxygen than now, and 2 times more carbon dioxide. And it turns out that these terrible conditions are necessary for the creation of man.

“Now accurate studies show that the cells of our brain, heart, kidneys need an average of 7% carbon dioxide and 2% oxygen, and the air contains 230 times less carbon dioxide and 10 times more oxygen, which means that it has become POISONOUS for us!”

* * *

“And it is especially poisonous for a newborn who has not yet adapted to it. Gotta be amazed folk wisdom, forcing parents to immediately tightly swaddle newborns, and in the east to fasten their arms and chest with ropes to the plank. And our grandmothers swaddled us tightly, then they covered us with a rather dense canopy. The child slept, normally survived. Gradually, the baby was accustomed to this poisonous air environment.

* * *

“... We now understand what carbon dioxide is - it is the most valuable product on earth, the only source of life, health, wisdom, vigor, beauty, etc. When a person learns to keep carbon dioxide in himself, his mental capacity, the excitation of the nervous system is reduced. Our method of elimination of deep breathing (VHDD) treats only one disease - deep breathing. But this disease creates 90% of all diseases.”

* * *

“... Now, as a result of a huge research and experimental work, the actual effect of oxygen is well known. It turns out if pure oxygen mice begin to breathe, they die in 10–12 days. There are many experiments with people breathing oxygen - the lungs are damaged and inflammation of the lungs begins from oxygen. And we treat pneumonia with oxygen. If mice are placed under pressure in oxygen, where the concentration of molecules is even greater, at 60 atmospheres of pressure they die in 40 minutes. Obviously, for our body, the optimal level of oxygen is about 10-14%, but not 21%, and this is approximately at an altitude of 3-4 thousand meters above sea level.

Now it is clear why the percentage of centenarians is higher in the mountains, an indisputable fact - there is less oxygen. If you raise the sick to the mountains, it turns out that they feel better there. Moreover, in the same place, angina pectoris, schizophrenia, asthma, heart attack, and hypertension are the least affected. If such patients are taken there, an environment with a lower percentage of oxygen is more optimal for them.”

* * *

“... Our blood comes into contact with the air of the lungs, and the air of the lungs just contains 6.5% carbon dioxide and about 12% oxygen, that is, just the optimum that is needed. Increasing or reducing breathing, we can violate this optimum. Deep and frequent breathing leads to the loss of carbon dioxide in the lungs, and this is the cause of serious disorders in the body.

* * *

“Deficiency of CO 2 (carbon dioxide) causes a shift in the internal environment of the body into alkaline side and this disrupts the metabolism, which, in particular, is expressed in the appearance allergic reactions, prone to colds, proliferation of bone tissue (colloquially referred to as salt deposits), etc., up to the development of tumors.

* * *

“We consider it proven that deep breathing causes epilepsy, neurasthenia, severe insomnia, headaches, migraines, tinnitus, irritability, a sharp decline mental and physical disability, memory impairment, decreased concentration, impaired peripheral nervous system, cholecystitis, chronic runny nose, chronic inflammation lungs, bronchitis, bronchial asthma, pneumosclerosis, tuberculosis more often occurs in deeply breathing people, because their body is weakened. Further: dilation of the veins of the nose, veins in the legs, hemorrhoids, which now received their theory, obesity, metabolic disorders, a number of disorders of the genital organs in men and women, then toxicosis of pregnancy, miscarriages, complications during childbirth.

“Deep breathing contributes to influenza, gives rise to rheumatism, chronic inflammatory foci, inflammation of the tonsils, as a rule, occurs in deep breathing. Chronic tonsillitis is very dangerous infection no less dangerous than tuberculosis. These infections deepen breathing and affect the body even more. Salt deposits (gout) - also occurs from deep breathing, wen on the body, any infiltrates, even brittle nails, dry skin, hair loss - all this, as a rule, is the result of deep breathing. These processes are still not treated, not prevented and have no theory.”

* * *

“Hypertension, Minier's disease, intestinal ulcers, spastic colitis, constipation, also from deep breathing. And this is clearly proven, there are thousands of experiments that have repeatedly proven that carbon dioxide is a powerful regulator of the lumen of the bronchi, blood vessels, etc. These reactions occur even if the animal's head is cut off. If you just take out the bronchi and blood vessels, it turns out that carbon dioxide acts on the smooth intestinal cell. Now they are finding out real reasons renal colic with kidney stones. These same smooth muscles spasm, compress tissues and cause pain. Breathing decreases - the kidney opens and the pain goes away. This is not science fiction, this is science, the highest science, which turns everything in the opposite direction.

Spasms of the vessels of the legs, arms, spasms of the labyrinth, fainting, dizziness, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, gastritis, colitis, hemorrhoids, varicose veins leg veins, thrombophlebitis, general violation metabolism, heartburn, hives, eczema - all these are symptoms of one disease of deep breathing. The pain of liver patients can be removed by our method of reducing breathing in 2-4 minutes, peptic ulcer too. Heartburn also occurs from deep breathing, and it can be removed. The next protective reaction is the sclerosis of the lungs, blood vessels, etc. This protection is the sealing of tissues from the loss of carbon dioxide. Therefore, we still live, that sclerosis develops, it protects us from the loss of carbon dioxide.

* * *

“If hypertension occurs in a young person, it usually takes a malignant course because more and more carbon dioxide is lost. There is a defense reaction - hyperfunction of the thyroid gland. She begins to work hard to increase metabolism and produce more carbon dioxide.

If this happens in a deeply breathing asthmatic, it reduces breathing and there is no asthma, and the thyroid gland returns to normal. Ordinary adjustment.

* * *

“Cholesterol is a biological insulator, covering the membranes of cells, blood vessels, and nerves. It isolates them from the outside world. With deep breathing, the body increases its production to protect itself from the loss of carbon dioxide.

* * *

“We have done an experiment. They took 25 sclerotics (as they are insultingly called), that is, patients with hypertension, angina pectoris with a high content of cholesterol in the blood and carbon dioxide 1.5% less than normal, canceled the diet (they sat on rabbit food for many years), canceled all medicines (they they drank barrels of iodine) and allowed, even forced to eat meat, lard, etc., but forced to reduce breathing, and carbon dioxide accumulated, cholesterol decreased. We even established the law of its regulation: with a decrease in carbon dioxide in the body by 0.1%, cholesterol rises by 10 milligram percent on average. Mucus - what is it? With a lack of carbon dioxide, excretion from all mucous membranes, throat, respiratory tract, stomach, intestines, etc. increases. Therefore, a runny nose appears from deep breathing, sputum is produced in the lungs. It turns out that this sputum is useful, it is also an insulator.

“Symptoms of deep breathing: dizziness, weakness, tinnitus, headache, nervous trembling, fainting. This shows that DEEP BREATHING IS A TERRIBLE POISON. Even a strong athlete who breathes deeply for more than 5 minutes cannot stand it, faints, convulsions, and stops breathing. And who among us has not been to the doctor and heard this “breathe deeply”. Sometimes the very visit to the doctor causes an attack of the disease.

Breathing exercises according to Buteyko is a method of improving the condition of the lungs through special exercises aimed at cleansing the entire body of unwanted accumulations of substances. After completing the full course of treatment, a person feels much better due to improved blood flow. Also, problems with the cardiovascular system and joints disappear. These exercises are especially useful for asthmatics in order to reduce the number of asthma attacks.

Konstantin Buteyko was born on January 27, 1923. By profession, he is a physiologist and became famous thanks to the development of his own method of developing the lungs with the help of special breathing exercises.

During bronchial asthma a person has an increase in breathing volume up to 15 liters per minute in a calm state (the norm is 5 l / min). Because of this, the body is oversaturated with oxygen, but at the same time the amount of carbon dioxide decreases, which leads to an attack.

All Buteyko exercises are aimed at improving the conservation of carbon dioxide in the body. According to the scientist's research, an attack of bronchial asthma occurs when there is a lack of carbon dioxide in the body. This explains the spasm of the bronchial muscles during suffocation. In this way, the body tries to keep the remaining carbon dioxide in the lungs as much as possible.

To improve carbon dioxide retention, Buteyko developed a lung training technique that improves shallow breathing. Over time, the volume of breathing decreases and comes to normal indicators. When using shallow breathing during exhalation, the concentration of carbon dioxide in the blood does not decrease as much as with a deep breath.

Many patients after the first month of training feel significant changes in the body. They are associated with the restructuring of the cardiovascular system, kidneys, liver, lungs, intestines and other organs.

Since during training, the body undergoes serious changes in the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide. The body tries to adapt to new conditions. Because of this, metabolic processes are restructured, which is accompanied by unpleasant sensations and symptoms in the form of diarrhea, sputum production, fever, etc. After the body is cleansed of excess substances, it is restored and various diseases are cured.

Preparatory exercises

All exercises of breathing exercises according to the Buteyko method consist in the use of inhalations and exhalations. different duration with various combinations. Periodic training with this method allows you to avoid oversaturation with oxygen and reduce the risk of asthma attacks.

So that the patient does not harm himself during classes, the first training is carried out under the supervision of an instructor. The level of training is assessed using a control pause. Its measurement is made by the following algorithm:

  • exhale calmly;
  • mark the time before the desire to breathe;
  • inhale.

If the stopwatch is more than 60 seconds, then the person has good lung fitness. During this time, the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the body is optimally maintained in the body.

It is especially important throughout the course of treatment to periodically note the results of the control pause. The diary also notes the date of the training and its duration. These records allow you to track the effectiveness of classes and adjust the training program in a timely manner.

Warm-up exercises for the lungs:

  1. Inhale, exhale, pause. 5 seconds for each step. Repeat the exercise 10 times.
  2. Ventilation of the lungs. Within 60 seconds, complete 12 deep breaths and exhalations. On the last exhalation, perform the maximum delay until the second breath.
  3. Breathe only through the right nostril 10 times, then only through the left.
  4. Inhale simultaneously with the diaphragm and chest according to the scheme: inhale for 7.5 seconds, exhale for 7.5 seconds, pause for 5 seconds. Repeat 10 times.
  5. Inhale while pulling your stomach in for 7.5 seconds. Exhale the same amount, then hold your breath for 5 seconds.

These 5 preparatory exercises should be performed daily, they prepare the lungs for a full workout. Need to work on empty stomach. All respiratory movements are performed only with the nose, and strong noises should not appear.

Level training

After warming up, you can begin a full-fledged lung workout. The method is divided by levels of training. There are four of them in total.

  1. First level. For 1 minute, 4 breathing cycles are performed. 5 sec. inhale, 5 sec., exhale, 5 sec. pause.
  2. Second level. 5s. Inhale, 5s. Hold, 5s exhale, 5s hold. The number of cycles per minute decreases up to 3 times, but the duration of the exercises increases to 2 minutes.
  3. At the third level, the exercises are performed the same as at the second, except that each stage is performed for 8 seconds. The exercise lasts 3 minutes.
  4. At the last, fourth, level, 10 seconds are allocated for each stage. The end result is 1 cycle per minute. The session lasts 4 minutes.

To recover after class, perform shallow breathing for 10 minutes. To do this, take a seated position and relax. Inhalation is made only by the chest without using the diaphragm.

The end result should be to achieve invisible breathing, when the minimum amount of air enters the lungs. In this case, the person will feel that the air moves only in the nasopharyngeal region.

Consequences

At 3-6 weeks of regular exercise, a person begins cleaning and rebuilding the body. Such changes are accompanied unpleasant symptoms and painful sensations. Many patients are afraid of such consequences and abandon training, which is not recommended. It is important that the restructuring is finally completed.

At first, the exercises are performed 2 times a day, in the morning and in the evening. After reaching 60 seconds on the control pause, the number of sessions decreases, but their duration lengthens. Periodic training can improve the patient's condition with the following diseases:

  • circulatory disorders;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • angina;
  • allergic reactions;
  • pneumonia;
  • pneumosclerosis.

Many patients note an improvement in their condition with bronchial asthma. In humans, after undergoing treatment according to the Buteyko method, there is a decrease in the incidence of suffocation. Significantly reduced their duration and intolerance. However, if classes are performed without the supervision of a specialist, then a person may experience completely opposite results.

Stages of cleansing the body

A person needs to keep records in a diary in order to track the results of training. A particularly important indicator is the control pause (CP), thanks to which it is possible to determine what is on this moment happens in the body.

CP 10 seconds

Initially, the mucous membranes that are in the nose and mouth are cleared. Next, the normalization of water metabolism occurs, so the patient is thirsty, increased sweating and frequent urination.

CP 30 seconds

At this stage, there are serious changes in the nervous system. Therefore, a person:

  • there is tearfulness and irritation for no reason;
  • increased frequency of stress;
  • blood circulation improves;
  • appear bleeding from the nose;
  • the temperature rises;
  • discharge of pus from the nose;
  • abrupt changes are observed blood pressure.

These changes are due to the replacement lung tissue. It is being fully updated, which takes up to 3 years.

40 seconds

At this stage, the cardiovascular system, kidneys and intestines are restructured. Therefore, there is a cure for hypertension, the duration of attacks in asthmatics is reduced to 30 seconds. In girls, the menstrual cycle is disturbed, changes thyroid, adrenal glands and other organs. Many people change significantly in weight, fat people lose weight, thin people get fat to normal weight.

Skin cell renewal occurs, which has a positive effect on appearance. A person's duration is reduced. good sleep up to 5 hours a day.

60 seconds

There is a final restructuring of the body. Therefore, a person cleanses the liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs from unwanted purulent accumulations. Therefore, they can intensify purulent discharge from the nose and throat.

Changes in the language are also observed, it is covered with a coating that reports changes in the functioning of the organs. As soon as all the changes are over, the tongue will acquire a standard pink color without additional plaque.

To strengthen all respiratory organs, special exercise techniques are often used. Domestic doctors trust two breathing exercises: according to Buteyko and according to Strelnikova. These exercises allow not only to improve health, but also to eliminate certain types of diseases. Let's take a closer look at how to perform the exercises and how effective they are.

After conducting a large number of experiments, doctor Konstantin Buteyko managed to prove that deep breathing harms every person. By receiving a large number oxygen is replaced by carbon dioxide, which is an equally important chemical component of our body. Thus, deep breathing can cause spasm of many organs, including cerebral vessels. And after the reduction vascular network and muscle tissue is no longer supplied with enough oxygen, which disrupts metabolic processes and biochemical reactions.

Konstantin Buteyko believes that carbon dioxide, which we are accustomed to classify as harmful to the body, actually needs to be saved. And for this you need to learn how to properly inhale and exhale air from the lungs. Experimentally, the doctor showed that in healthy patients, much more carbon dioxide accumulates in the bloodstream than in those who suffer from such pathological conditions as erosive processes in the gastrointestinal tract, bronchial asthma, post-infarction period, etc.

Buteyko breathing exercises: basic principles

The main task of a patient who wants to learn how to perform exercises according to the Buteyko method is to control breathing so that it is not deep, but superficial. Doing gymnastics is quite difficult, especially for a sick person, because during a period of weakening of body functions, a person needs to develop patience and show willpower. Therefore, in the initial stages, Buteyko breathing exercises make patients drenched in sweat in order to force themselves not to take deep breaths. Sometimes doctors use corsets, without which patients cannot achieve normal breathing.

During the treatment course, patients need to limit food. Basically, patients are prescribed plant foods, without high content fat. During this period, it is strictly forbidden to drink alcoholic drinks, smoking. Sleep on your stomach and breathe only through your nose.

Additionally, it is advised to carry out procedures for hardening the body, as well as autogenic training. It is very important to maintain psychological balance, as any stressful situations cause patients to deepen their breathing and lead to hyperventilation of the lungs. In some patients, vasospasm even causes loss of consciousness.

Buteyko breathing exercises help to lift even those patients who have been suffering from chronic diseases. It contributes to the following positive effects:

  • Improving nasal breathing eliminates rhinitis, sinusitis
  • The cough goes away severe symptoms bronchial asthma
  • Improves mucus secretion from the lower respiratory system
  • Allergic reactions are treated
  • The function of the cardiovascular system is restored, pressure normalizes, the work of the heart muscle
  • They seek to eliminate circulatory disorders in the brain, etc.

The essence of the Buteyko technique is to slowly reduce the depth of inhalation/exhalation. By prolonging the cessation of breathing, patients regain balance chemical substances, immunity is strengthened, and the disease itself recedes.

Breathing exercises according to the Buteyko method

To perform breathing exercises correctly, you need to take a comfortable position of the body. The patient does gymnastics while sitting in a chair with a straight back. The neck is pulled up, the hands rest on the knees, but do not connect together. A person should relax as much as possible, become calm.

Before performing Buteyko gymnastics exercises, it is necessary to achieve a “control pause”. After expiration, the patient should stop breathing for so long that he feels a lack of air.

Gymnastics begins with the fact that gradually reduce the depth of breathing, reducing it to nothing. The procedure is carried out for 5 minutes, then the control pause is measured. Then they again go to a five-minute exercise and again take measurements. This is repeated five times, which will be 1 cycle of exercises. And for the whole day, such cycles should be carried out 6 times with an interval of four hours.

After each measurement of the control pause, the data is entered into a diary to calculate the dynamics of training progress. If the indicators are growing, then the exercises are carried out correctly. But even with the same numbers over a long period, we can say that gymnastics works, only very slowly. When the patient's control pause reaches 1 minute, then training can be done twice a day. With the full development of the methodology, they switch to a one-time cycle of classes.

So, the human health test is carried out as follows. They take a stopwatch and, after exhaling, hold their breath as far as possible (you need to endure until an unpleasant sensation appears). The assessment of the state of the body is carried out according to the parameters of the pause before inhalation:

  1. 3-5 seconds - the patient is very sick
  2. 30 seconds - a person is not healthy, but not much
  3. 1 minute - speaks of absolute health
  4. 2-3 minutes - ultra-tolerant patient

Gymnastics according to Buteyko is carried out under the supervision of a specialist. Some types of charging will be contraindicated when severe stages bronchial asthma, so the patient should not self-medicate.

Breathing exercises Strelnikova

The developed method of exercises has a healing effect not on individual bodies person, but for the whole organism. It is shown to improve the following features:

  • Blood supply to the lungs
  • Metabolism
  • Nervous regulation
  • Airway drainage
  • nasal breathing
  • Lymph circulation
  • Elimination of adhesions and other structural disorders in the lungs, bronchi
  • Increasing immunity resistance to infections, harmful conditions
  • Normalization of the general tone
  • Recovery of the body with mental problems
  • Correction of deformities of the musculoskeletal system
  • Strengthening of the vascular walls
  • Resorption of inflamed areas
  • Removal of congestion, etc.

Studies of the body with spirometry and a Genche test proved that Strelnikova's breathing exercises contribute to a good effect on the respiratory system, blood composition, pressure, general well-being, the performance of the heart muscle, bronchopulmonary apparatus.

  • Tuberculosis
  • Bronchial asthma/bronchitis
  • Allergic coughing fits
  • Rhinitis

Often, the method of treating various pathological changes and inflammations is carried out with the parallel prescription of medications.

But Strelnikova's gymnastics also has contraindications, so you should consult a doctor before doing it. Make breathing exercises prohibited for patients with the following diseases:

  • Exacerbation of inflammation with fever
  • Severe forms of pathologies of various organs
  • Thrombophlebitis of an acute course

In other cases, the method of training the respiratory organs will help to eliminate many diseases.

How to do breathing exercises?

Here we look at 11 different workouts that Dr. Strelnikova has developed. Before starting the exercises, you need to familiarize yourself with general rules classes:

  1. To accustom the body to physical exercise, on the first day of gymnastics, you need to use only 3 exercises, repeating them twice a day.
  2. On the following days, one additional type of training is added.
  3. If at first it will be very difficult to complete tasks, then the breaks between them are increased to 10 seconds.
  4. Inhalation must be necessarily nasal, sharp, making noise.
  5. Exhalation is done through the mouth, it may not be intense.
  6. Breaths are always accompanied by movements, and exercises are performed quite often (up to 2 per second).
  7. A single lesson should not be pulled for more than 30 minutes.

If you do Strelnikova's gymnastics at least once every day, the patient will be able to feel great throughout his life.

Now let's move on to the instructions for each type of exercise.

The patient can perform exercises in any convenient position: standing, sitting or lying on his back. The main task of a person is to bend the arms at the elbows so that they remain at their height, as with lowered limbs. And open palms raise up to the level of the face. Taking a strong breath through the nose, they immediately clench their fists. So you need to take four breaths in a row. After that, the brushes are relaxed, lowered and rested for 4 seconds.

Exercises Palms repeat 24 times. First, people out of habit develop dizziness, general weakness. But by the end of charging, this state passes. If the patient has severe dizziness, then the exercises are best done while sitting in a chair or lying down. Rest between training cycles is increased to 10 seconds.

A person can also take any comfortable position. Hands are clenched into fists and pressed to the body at waist level, but not higher. When inhaling, the hands are strongly lowered down, as if being pushed to the floor. At this time, the shoulders should be very tense, and the arms should be fully extended.

After that, the hands are returned to their original position on the belt, and the shoulders relax as much as possible and exhale. The exercise is repeated 8 times with a rest of 4 seconds. 12 approaches are performed at a time.

This exercise is done only while standing. A person needs to stand up straight. The legs are placed together, and the arms are extended exactly along the body. Then you need to lean towards the floor so that your hands hang from your shoulders, as if reaching for the ground, but without touching it. At the same time, a sharp nasal breath is taken, which ends with the cessation of the tilt.

Then the person exhales and straightens the back a little, but does not straighten it, but remains in a slightly inclined position. Lowering the arms down, the back should resemble a semicircle with the head down. Exercises are performed quickly, so that more than 100 inclinations are obtained in a minute. The training cycle lasts for 8 breaths. It is necessary to repeat 12 cycles.

This type of gymnastics has contraindications. Patients with sciatica, hypertension, liver / kidney disease should not bend too low. Exercises are allowed to be done with small inclinations, but strong nasal breaths.

A person stands on straight legs, folded together. The training is based on squats, during which it is necessary to turn the body to the left / right side. At the same time, they take a sharp breath and again take their original position. When squatting, the knees are slightly bent, but not at an angle of 90 0. And the hands at this time perform grasping actions at waist level, as a cat does when jumping. There is no need to follow the exhalation, because it will be obtained involuntarily.

When performing this exercise, you need to remember that the back remains straight all the time, and turns are done with a belt. Charging is repeated in cycles of 8 breaths. Repeat exercises 12 times. If the patient is seriously ill, then he can do gymnastics while sitting.

The patient stands straight and bends his elbows, raising his hands to his shoulders. The body resembles the letter T. With a sharp breath, you should close the shoulder nodules, not crossing the limbs, but keeping them parallel. The exercise is repeated 8 times and rest. The patient is required to do 12 cycles of gymnastics. If there's physical limitations, then charging is carried out in a supine position.

The exercise has contraindications. People with heart defects, ischemia should not do this type of exercise in the first week of classes. If it is difficult, then you can reduce the number of approaches to 4, and then take a break.

This exercise combines two exercises already described: Pump and Hug Shoulders. The person stands straight with arms extended over the body. Leaning almost to the floor with a rounded back and hanging hands, take a breath and return to the original stance. But now the back is slightly bent back, and the arms are hugging the shoulders. After that, they inhale the air again. The exercise is repeated for 8 sets twelve times.

If physiology does not allow, then exercises are done in sitting position. For spinal injuries or salt deposits gymnastics is performed carefully. With such pathologies, it is better not to do backward bends.

These are the first 6 exercises to be done in without fail. The following 5 types of exercises can be done only after a person has mastered the main workouts.

The patient stands straight and turns his head: left and right. With each turn, an intense breath is taken. During the exercise, it is worth making sure that the head does not stop in the center of the body. Charging is repeated 12 times for eight cycles.

This exercise is performed in almost the same way as the previous one. In this case, when turning, the head is tilted down, and the ears reach to the shoulders.

Exercises are performed with the head, lowering it to the chest and then raising it, looking at the ceiling. Charging is contraindicated in patients with epilepsy and head injuries. It is also not recommended to do the Pendulum with hypertension, cervical osteochondrosis.

The patient stands straight, distributing body weight on two legs. The right limb is taken back, and the left - forward. Then the weight of the torso is transferred to the front straightened leg, and the right one is bent at the knee and the fulcrum is on the fingers. With a weak squat, the left leg inhales air. Then the weight of the body is transferred to the right leg and the same exercise is repeated, but only the left foot is on the toe.

Charging is done while standing. First, the legs are kept straight and the feet are placed side by side. Then left limb raise the knee to the waist, but her sock stretches down. Right leg crouches a little and the person inhales noisily. Then the exercise is repeated, changing the position of the legs.

When stepping back, the left leg is bent at the knee and retracted behind the back so that the heel reaches the buttock. The right limb crouches and a sharp breath is taken. The position changes, and the cycle contains 4 exercises of eight approaches.

If the patient has thrombophlebitis, ischemic disease or leg injuries were suffered, then the stop between cycles is increased to 10 seconds.

Breathing exercises for children

In diseases of the respiratory system, pediatricians very often, in addition to medicines prescribe special exercises that improve functionality child's body and reduce the risk of complications.

Not all kids can do gymnastic exercises. For example, children with osteochondrosis, injuries of the skull or back should not overload the motor apparatus too intensively. In addition, at frequent bleeding and high eye/blood pressure, breathing exercises for children are also not always allowed.

Basic principles for conducting exercises

Doctors advise children to do breathing exercises twice a day. You can allocate 15 minutes for exercises. Charging is not done immediately after eating, you must wait at least 1 hour.

Children are taught to inhale/exhale air correctly. Toddlers should know that when inhaling, it is necessary to fill the lungs with oxygen as much as possible, completely expanding them. And when you exhale, you should completely push out the exhaust gases.

Before classes, children need to be explained that they adhere to the following rules:

  • Always inhale through the nose
  • Do not raise your shoulders while inhaling
  • Don't puff out your cheeks
  • Exhale slowly and long

As soon as it becomes warm outside, breathing exercises in kindergarten can be carried out right on playground. And in winter, before the exercises, you should ventilate the room.

It is very important to ensure that children do not show signs of hyperventilation. If a child is exercising too hard, his face may turn red, his heart rate may increase, his limbs will tingle, or he will tremble. So that the children do not become ill, charging is stopped for a while.

If the baby is dizzy, then such a symptom can be eliminated by a simple action. The child's palms are folded in a boat and brought to the face. The child should take several deep breaths into this "dipper". After that, you can continue charging.

Breathing exercises in kindergarten: simple exercises for kids 2-7 years old

For the health of little mischief-makers in preschool institutions you can do the following simple and interesting activities. You can repeat each exercise 4-6 times.

  1. Balloon

This is a very interesting load. The baby lies on his back and puts his hands on his tummy. He must inflate it strongly like a balloon, and then completely “lower it”. The exercise is done slowly.

  1. Wave

The child lies on the back with the back, arms and legs completely straightened. When inhaling, he should raise the handles, smoothly winding them behind his head and touching the floor with his palms. Returning to the starting position, the baby should say “Down”, smoothly and slowly exhaling air.

  1. watch

This exercise is performed while standing on straight legs with arms down. Then the child must move the handles, like the hands of a clock - either forward or backward. At the same time, he says "Tick-tock."

  1. Diver

This exercise will be very popular with children who love to swim and dive under water. The child should take a breath, gaining full lungs of air and hold the breath for as long as he can not breathe. The teacher can tell what kind of fish the children see, where they can swim away.

  1. locomotive

During gymnastics, the child must walk in a circle, as if on rails. He will depict a train that rides with the help of the movement of the handles. In the process of driving, he should say “choo-choo”. Then you need to stop and signal "Tu-tu".

  1. Grow up big

It will be very interesting for children to do this exercise, because they all want to become big faster. They stand straight and raise their arms to the side and then up, stretching as high as possible on their toes. In this case, you need to take a slow breath. And when you exhale, the handles go down.

The smaller the depth of breathing and the lower its frequency, the healthier and more durable the person is - this is the main meaning of the breathing exercises developed by Buteyko.

Therapeutic effect of Buteyko breathing:

The Buteyko breathing method helps in the treatment of bronchial asthma, angina pectoris, hypertension;
reduces atherosclerosis;
the method cures spasms of the vessels of the brain and heart, pulmonary emphysema, eczema, itching;
breathing according to Buteyko reduces excitability, the amount of cholesterol in the blood;
relieves weakness and shortness of breath, headache, dizziness, insomnia;
leads to normal body weight of the patient;
eliminates obesity and thinness.

The patient should first of all get acquainted with by the method of volitional normalization of breathing according to Buteyko, set the degree of your hyperventilation according to the table below and make a hyperventilation test (preferably under medical supervision).

Buteyko hyperventilation test technique:

Deepen breathing for 1-5 minutes before the onset of symptoms of the disease (asthma attack, angina pectoris, headaches, dizziness, cold extremities, etc.);
after the onset of these symptoms, it is necessary to immediately reduce the depth and frequency of breathing to eliminate the symptoms caused by increased breathing.

During repeated study on the “complexator” (physiological combine) of the listed diseases in the laboratory of functional methods of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics with the assistance of other institutes of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences, one of the leading direct causes of the onset and progression of these diseases was revealed. The cause is respiratory failure hyper ventilation- Deep and rapid breathing in excess of the norm at rest and in motion.
It has been established in the laboratory that incorrect breathing can be corrected by will. On this basis, old theories were revised and fundamentally new methods of early diagnosis, prevention and drug-free treatment of diseases were developed by volitional normalization (correction) of breathing according to Buteyko.

Chronic hyperventilation, observed in patients suffering from the diseases listed above, practically does not increase the saturation of arterial blood with oxygen, since the blood during normal breathing is almost saturated with oxygen to the limit (96-98%).
But increased pulmonary ventilation causes excessive removal of carbon dioxide from the body, which leads to narrowing (spasms) of the bronchi and blood vessels of the brain, heart, limbs, as well as to a stronger binding of oxygen to the blood. The mere combination of oxygen with the blood reduces the supply of oxygen to the cells of the heart, brain, and other organs.

A decrease in the amount of carbon dioxide in the body causes:

Vasoconstriction;
damage to the bronchi and blood vessels;
excitation of the nervous system;
worsening sleep;
shortness of breath
headache;
angina attacks;
noise in ears;,
metabolic disease;
obesity;
increase in blood cholesterol;
increase or decrease in blood pressure;
biliary dyskinesia;
° constipation and other disorders.

Normalization of breathing according to Buteyko immediately begins to eliminate a number of the above symptoms, depending on breathing, the severity of the disease, and the age of the patient. Basically, the speed of disappearance of the main symptoms of the disease depends on the persistence in correcting breathing. Relief occurs within a few hours to 3 months.

Normalization of breathing according to Buteyko warns:

myocardial infarction;
stroke;
progressive vascular sclerosis; emphysema.
The patient must know for sure what normal breathing should be, be able to count its frequency and determine the duration of breath holding:

Breathing rate.

The cycle of breathing consists of inhalation, exhalation and pause. At rest and with little physical exertion, you need to breathe only through the nose.

Inhale slowly (2-3 seconds), as deep as possible (0.3-0.5 l), almost imperceptible to the eye.
Behind him is a passive calm exhalation (3-4 seconds).
Then a pause (3-4 seconds), etc.
The respiratory rate is 6-8 times per minute.
Pulmonary ventilation 2-4 l in 1 minute.
Carbon dioxide in the alveoli 6.5-5.0%. A reliable indicator of the usefulness of all systems
breath and very an important factor in its restructuring is the duration of breath holding after a normal exhalation (Table 1).
In a healthy person, the duration of holding the breath after exhalation is at least 60 seconds.

Table 1

inhaleExhalationHolding your breath
2-3 seconds 3-4 seconds 60 seconds

Patients even at rest breathe through the mouth:
Inhale quickly (0.5-1 second).
Exhalation is fast for about 1 second, incomplete, the lungs are swollen, they are all the time on inspiration, there are no pauses.
The respiratory rate reaches 20-50 times per minute.
Pulmonary ventilation 10-20 liters per minute.
Carbon dioxide in the alveoli is below 6%, and in seriously ill patients it drops to 3% and below.
Seriously ill patients can only hold their breath for a few seconds.

The deeper the breath, the shorter the pause after exhalation and the delay after it; the more severely the person is ill, the faster the sclerosis of the organs, the closer the death. Therefore, it is necessary to correct breathing as soon as possible.

Correction of breathing according to the Buteyko method is done as follows:

By willpower, it is necessary to constantly reduce the speed and depth of inspiration for at least 3 hours a day at rest or in motion (walking, sports), and also to develop a pause after a full calm breath, trying to constantly bring breathing closer to normal. In addition, it is necessary at least 3 times a day (in the morning, before lunch and before going to bed) to do 3-6 maximum breath holdings, bringing their duration to 60 seconds or more;
after each long breath holding, patients should rest for 1-2 minutes on a small breath. These long delays, although they sometimes cause unpleasant subjective sensations (pulsations) in the temples, aching pain in various areas of the body, etc., normalize the content of carbon dioxide in the blood, reduce the symptoms of diseases, facilitate and accelerate the treatment. Comprehensive research and long-term observations of the process of treating patients have shown that by force of will, patients cannot reduce breathing so much that it becomes harmful to the body.

The smaller the depth of breathing and the lower its frequency, the healthier and more durable a person is..

All stages of the diseases mentioned above can be treated.

Symptoms such as headache, dizziness are often associated with carbon dioxide deficiency and, as a result, with vasospasm. And this deficit occurs as a result of hyperventilation and deep breathing, which means that it is necessary to reduce the depth of breathing. How?

Need to relax. The very fact of muscle relaxation always causes a decrease in the depth of breathing. Relaxation is the basis of Buteyka breathing. At the same time, we do not interfere with breathing at all. We focus on the need to relax. You can use any relaxation technique, for example, auto-training, meditation.

Breathe only through the nose. The air is warmed and humidified, passing through the nose, and partially disinfected.

Try to read a book without starting a phrase with a noisy breath, without delaying the exhalation. Inhale only through the nose. Read calmly, breathe calmly. Most likely, this will not work the first time, but if you repeat this exercise every day, you will be able to achieve shallow, even breathing. Nasal congestion is a common problem, especially in children. It is easily removed by breathing according to Buteyko.

The exercise. Exhale, pinch your nose, hold your breath, try not to breathe for 1-2 minutes. Then, opening your nose, breathe calmly for 30 seconds, calm your breath. After this, repeat the exercise. Do about 10 minutes a day. A positive indicator if the pause in breathing increases and disturbing symptoms disappear.

This technique also helps allergy sufferers to relieve an allergy attack (runny nose, itching, etc.). And the more often you use this technique, the longer the pause, the bright gap between the onset of symptoms, will become.

There is another wonderful exercise for people with asthma, obstructive bronchitis or COPD. These diseases are accompanied by cough. First, you need to learn how to control your cough. At a minimum, you need to cough with your mouth closed so that breathing takes place through the nose. So that there is no sharp, formed exhalation, which reduces the concentration of carbon dioxide and causes spasm.

Second - after each coughing, it is advisable to stop breathing for 2-3 seconds.

Third - opening your nose, inhale quietly and inaudibly.

This cough pattern keeps the bronchi in open form, allows sputum to easily rise and be excreted on its own.

Relative contraindications for Buteyko breathing exercises:

Acute period of heart attack and stroke,
terminal state,
mental disorder,
chronic tonsillitis.

There were no complications during Buteyko treatment. On the 2-3rd week, and sometimes later, in seriously ill patients, against the background of a general gradual improvement in their condition, some symptoms of the disease temporarily return, which is a consequence of the “breaking” of the disease.
After that, while maintaining a constant breath on normal level usually quickly there is an improvement in the condition or the complete disappearance of the disease.

Medicines, as a rule, are canceled (with the exception of seriously ill patients who do not correct their breathing at the beginning of treatment).
Control: medical in a hospital, clinic or at home using conventional clinical and laboratory methods. Mandatory monitoring of the respiratory rate per minute and the duration of the delay, the content of carbon dioxide in the alveolar air.
Diet: usual for patients with restriction of dairy products.
Patients with bronchial asthma are prescribed vitamin A.

The most common mistakes of patients who started treatment with Buteyko breathing exercises:

Quitting breathing training, frightened discomfort.
Do not reduce breathing to the required rate, increase breathing; the remaining disorders in the body return the disease.
They confuse the concept of "pause" with holding the breath.
After treatment, the respiratory rate and the duration of the delay are not checked daily.
Do not increase physical activity in the fresh air.
They abuse drugs. To determine the degree of hyperventilation according to Table 2, it is necessary to count the number of breaths per minute and check the duration of the maximum delay after a normal exhalation at rest.

The most frequently asked questions about breathing according to the Buteyko system:

1. Question: What are the causes of bronchial asthma, angina pectoris, hypertension, endarteritis?
Answer: The cause of the above diseases is deep breathing.

2. Question: What is more important: deep breathing or breathing rate?
Answer: Deep breathing is more important, since ventilation of the lungs mainly depends on it.

3. Question: How to measure the depth of breathing?
Answer: The depth of breathing is measured by the duration of holding the breath (apnea) after a normal exhalation according to the formula: 60 / holding duration in seconds

4. Question: Why is deep breathing harmful?
Answer: With deep breathing, carbon dioxide, which is necessary as a component for the normal life of the cell, disappears from the body.

5. Question: What happens to oxygen in tissues during deep breathing?
Answer: With deep breathing, oxygen in the blood almost does not increase. And in the tissues it decreases due to vasoconstriction, a stronger bond of oxygen with blood hemoglobin, and an increase in metabolism.

6. Question: What is normal breathing?
Answer: Normal breathing consists of a shallow breath, a normal exhalation and a pause, during which gas exchange mainly occurs in the lungs. The respiratory rate is 6-8 times per minute.

7. Question: What is the difference between pause and hold of the respiratory cycle?
Answer: The delay is done to control the depth of breathing. The delay should be at least 60 seconds after exhalation.

8. Question: How long should the pause and delay be?
Answer: The delay is made to the maximum duration, the pause is equal to 0.1 of the delay duration. So, if the duration of the delay after exhalation is 60 seconds, then the pause is 6 seconds.
You need to train breathing until the delay after exhalation at any time is longer than 60 seconds. Subsequently, all my life, in the morning and in the evening, check the duration of the delay after exhalation, and if it suddenly starts to decrease * resume training again to normalize the breath holding.

9. Question: Is it possible for the disease to return? Answer: Yes, it is possible if you deepen your breathing again, that is, then the delay will become less than 60 seconds.

10. Question: What is the "breaking" of the disease? Answer: Against the background of a gradual improvement in breathing
and the condition of a sick person, after a few days from the start of training, it becomes more difficult to train breathing, the symptoms of the disease partially return - this is a reaction of recovery. "Breaking" lasts 27 days.

11. Question: How should one behave during the “withdrawal”?
Answer: You need to train your breathing hard, try to avoid drugs.

12. Question: Why is it necessary to stop taking medications during the treatment with volitional normalization of breathing (VNR)?
Answer: Reception of vascular-bronchodilators with deep breathing is not useful, as with the expansion of the bronchi (vessels), and the removal of carbon dioxide from the body increases even more.

13. Question: Can decreased breathing be harmful?
Answer: Reducing breathing can never be harmful.

14. Question: Can holding your breath be harmful?
Answer: Holding the breath after exhalation is always beneficial.

15. Question: Is bronchospasm useful?
Answer: Yes, it is useful, since the smooth muscle of the bronchi automatically reduces the leakage of carbon dioxide from the body and is a protective reaction of the body against deep breathing.
